The first stage of plasmodium development in humans takes place in the liver. When the more mature plasmodium escapes from the liver and enters the bloodstream, it infects a red blood cell and multiplies, causing the red blood cell to burst open after about 2 to 3 days and to release a new crop of parasites (plasmodium). The cycle of invasion, multiplication, and red blood cell rupture may be repeated many times.

Expansion Diffusion can occur when a person has malaria and travels somewhere and another mosquito bites them. The mosquito adopts the infection and bites someone else giving another person the disease.

Relocation Diffusion is almost the same it’s just the person moves to another area (e.g. a different country), allowing a different species to bite the person and spreading the disease from a new origin.

Contagious Diffusion because it can be spread from the same mosquito (unlike dengue where the mosquito dies), so that one mosquito can infect several persons.
