Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has opened another door for young
people, aged between four and 17, to create their own “Ironman” in this rapidly growing
industry.
The academy is a franchisee appointed by South Korean high-tech robotic technology
company, MRT International Ltd., as the exclusive and sole distributor of educational
robot kits and coding products.
The academy’s dedication towards drawing and empowering its students in Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is in line with MDEC’s aspiration to
promote the STEM agenda via the MyDigitalmaker initiative and the academy is
recognised as a MyDigitalmaker hub.
Various topics are taught to the students at the academy during its Robotics and Early
Childhood Education workshop sessions and include: Build a robot; Role-play; and Why
robotics is vital? Another part of the programme covered training on methodology and
how to bring robotics in to the classroom.
The academy also organises pre-school robotics carnival annually and its students have
participated in international robotics and coding competition in China. The students will
soon show their mettle at the 6th International Youth Robot Competition finals scheduled
to be held in Daejeon, South Korea in August 2019.
MDEC was represented by its Vice-President, Growth Ecosystem Development, Norhizam
Abdul Kadir and Vice-President, Talent & Entrepreneur Development, Dr. Sumitra Nair at
the official opening ceremony of the academy on the 27th of May 2019, which was also
