WHAT IS MALWARE?

• Malware, short for malicious

software, is any software

used to disrupt computer

operation, gather sensitive

information, or gain access to

private computer systems.

Malware includes: • trojan horses

•worms,

•computer viruses,

•spyware

• adware

•and other

malicious programs.

COMPUTER VIRUSES

• A computer virus is a program or piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your wishes. A simple virus can make a copy of itself.

TROJAN HORSES

• Trojan horses are software programs that masquerade as regular programs, such as games, disk utilities, and even antivirus programs. But if they are run, these programs can do malicious things to your computer.

WORMS

• A worm is similar to a virus by design and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the capability to travel without any human action.

SPYWARE AND ADWARE

• Spyware is software that aids in gathering information about a person or organization without their knowledge and that may send such information to another entity without the consumer's consent.

• Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically renders advertisements in order to generate revenue for its author.

SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION

• Applications won’t start

• You get lots of system error messages

• Programs start running slowly

• You see unexpected messages or images

• Missing files

• Disks or Disk Drives Are Not Accessible

• Antivirus or anti-virus software, is computer software used to prevent, detect and remove malicious software.

CONCLUSION

There are lots of viruses in the world and new viruses are coming up every day. There are new anti-virus programs and techniques developed too. Prevention and protection from viruses are simple; usually an up-to-date anti-virus software and security program is all that is needed.
