OBJECTIVES :

Define and explain the best management of the port equipment.

Explain the aspects of the best management and methods.

GOALS OF THE MANAGEMENT

Every management have goals to make: Minimize the cost spent on equipment. Increase the level of service, speed and

efficiency. Decrease the mistakes and the accidents. Increase the life-span of the equipment. Use the resource in the best way possible. Ensure the safety of the operation.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF EQUIPMENT OWNERSHIP

Before we talk about the first goal lets explain the aspect of this goal, there are 3 different ownership types: Ports ownership. Ports partly ownership (leasing). Non-port ownership(hiring).

DIFFERENT TYPES OF EQUIPMENT OWNERSHIP

Ports ownership:Not very common these days, because its an obstacle of the port development. Ports partly ownership (leasing):its more common, because the port can replace equipment with new ones same price. Non-ports ownership(hiring):This is the most common nowadays because port could use the labor and the skill and technology that this company may have with a reasonable price.

MINIMIZE THE COST SPENT ON EQUIPMENT.

After we discussed the different types of equipment ownership now we can say that most important things to consider in case we want to minimize the cost is the following: Getting the best and right type of

ownership of the equipment. Negotiate for the best price, and the

best quality.

INCREASE THE LEVEL OF SERVICE, SPEED AND EFFICIENCY

To increase the service and the speed and efficiency in port, management of the equipment should be at the best possible way, and for sure that will be a good reputation for the port.Equipment should be used at the proper way to make the port life easier.

DECREASE THE MISTAKES AND THE ACCIDENTS.

Not to mention on the most flaws of the management is the mistakes and what that’s lead to in losses and customer unsatisfied.

We can decrease that mistakes from happening by hiring the most worthy company of your trust, that has good labor and excellent equipment.

INCREASE THE LIFE-SPAN OF THE EQUIPMENT.

Since these equipment is very expensive so it would make sense that the most important thing is to keep it in great condition for as long as it can be. No company would want to buy new equipment every few years.And there's a lot of factors considering this goal like the Maintenance and the inspection.

THE MAINTENANCE

There are a few types of Maintenance but I will only mention five of them. Preventive maintenance:It can be described as tests, measurements, adjustments, and parts replacement, performed specifically to prevent faults from occurring.

Predictive maintenance :It is a techniques help determine the condition of in-service equipment in order to predict when maintenance should be performed. Corrective maintenance :a maintenance task performed to identify, isolate, and rectify a fault so that the failed equipment, can be restored to an operational condition.

Proactive maintenance :is a maintenance strategy for stabilizing the reliability of machines or equipment. Operational maintenance :is the care and minor maintenance of equipment using procedures that do not require detailed technical knowledge of equipment’s or system’s function and design. This category of operational maintenance normally consists of inspecting, cleaning, servicing, preserving, lubricating, and adjusting, as required.

THE INSPECTION

It involves set of things such as : Survey and testing of cranes and elevators Survey and testing of towers, pullers, rafts

and barges Survey and testing of loaders and tractors Survey and testing of warehouses equipment Survey and testing of containers Survey and testing of each other equipment.

USE THE RESOURCE IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.

To manage the equipment in a proper way is to use every thing in its own place and in the right time and exactly how its suppose to me used.And to use every resource you have to help managing these functions of the equipment.

ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE OPERATION.

The most important thing after all is the safety of the men using the equipment and to ensure that all the safety measures of using it is being used.And to ensure that the men working on this equipment will be completely safe. And to provide such as Life saving facilities and equipment along with fire extinguishing systems.
