To everyone who provided super snacks for Super Family Night, espe-cially Amy Palmer, Joy Rho, Lauren Warren, Wendy Zimmerman and Haidee Zinn for their delicious homemade goodies. To our fantastic floor volunteers and cashiers who made the class visits run smoothly and efficiently: Laura Bortstein, Anne Butler-Boyle, Betsy Cadel, Christina Crump, Lisa Feldman, Sharon Forman, Jen Frain, Scarlet Fu, Kate Funk, Sawako Gensure, Elizabeth Sherman Graif, Lora Griffith, Susan Henner, Kai Huang, Madhuri Karwa, Liz Kaufman, Lisa Kayata, Natasha Kho-sla, Barbara Orlando, Deborah Shane, Kimiko Shime, Susan Smith, Sara Stratford, Lisa Wexler and Wendy Zimmerman. To Julie Hallowell and Robin Greif for organizing and coordinating the Kids Help Kids book donations for the Carver Center. To 5th graders Lucas Chan and Ian Gordan for dressing as Clifford and Curious George for the pre-school event, much to the delight of the attendees. To the Seely Place custodial staff, especially Cindy Volkert, for help setting up and maintaining the Book Fair. To Elizabeth Feinson and Liz Leitner in the Seely Place office for their assistance before and during the Fair. Thank you to Dr. Kennedy for his pre-Fair logistical assistance and his enthusiastic support of the Book Fair. Thank you to all the teachers for their book recommendations and for graciously allowing the children to eat lunch in the classrooms during the Book Fair. Thank you to Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Gomez and Mrs. Katz for kindly accepting the Thursday afternoon class visit slots. Thank you to Michael Bianchi for his behind the scenes support. A special thank you to Ms. Kilcoyne and the 3rd grade for the amazing super hero artwork that graced the entrance to the Book Fair – the children loved the way the Hulk’s arms seemed to grab them on the way into the Fair. And an enormous thank you to Dr. Bronzell for her dedicated assistance with every facet of the Book Fair including: selecting exciting books for the Fair, recommending books for all reading levels, hosting the 6th grade private viewing of the Book Fair, selecting books for the 5th grade reading challenge, and helping both students and parents with their book selections at every Book Fair event. Finally, thank you to all the teachers, staff, students and parents who responded so enthusiastically to the Fair, waited patiently in line, and purchased all those books!
…To everyone who supported Kids Help Kids at the Greenville Book Fair. And a very special thank you to Ms. Horowitz, who spoke to all the students about the significance of purchasing books for children in need. This year we donated over 100 books to the Carver Center’s Library, a center in Port Chester for families in need. We brought a small group of Greenville stu-dents with us to help deliver the books. We met with a class of 7-year old children and our Greenville students presented them with wonderful new books. The children and staff were so excited and appreciative of all the books. Thank you to: Eliza Shaw, Sydney Shah, Ben Pace, Max Pace, Daniel Smith and Nicolas Bindela who helped make our day at the Carver Center so special.
…To the generosity of all the Seely Place Families who, through Kids Help Kids, donated a total of 240 books to the Carver Center this year. They are thrilled!

We have very exciting enrichment programs planned for both Greenville and Seely Place this year. So far, the Greenville kindergarten has enjoyed music and story-telling by performer Jim Keyes. Grades 2-6 at Greenville were treated to a performance of “Laura Ingalls Wilder.” The students learned about Laura, Mary, Ma and Pa and their adventures on the prairie. At Seely Place, Alyssa Capucilli, author of the favorite “Bis-cuit” series of books came in to visit with kindergarten through 2nd grade. The children learned about how she writes her books from the idea through publication. First grade at Seely Place also enjoyed a visit with Angelo DeCesare, the fabulous author and illustrator of the Flip Series of books. Next week the 3rd through 6th graders will meet with Peter Lourie, award winning non-fiction author and photographer. He will tell the children about his adventures on the Hudson River and work on non-fiction writing with the 4th grade. We have also had several visits with Mr. Green from Hands on Science, which will continue throughout the year. And it’s only November!
As the school year continues, the 3rd and 4th grade at Greenville and the 5th and 6th grade at Seely will be working with The Lincoln Center Institute preparing to see and understand a performance of “Exit Stage Left” which will showcase the power of non-verbal communication. All students at Greenville will get a chance to participate in a workshop on sign language, what it’s like to be deaf, and also learn some basic sign lan-guage. Both Seely and Greenville students will enjoy visits from the clay artist Cliff Men-delson and Theaterworks productions. In addition to all this, we have fabulous authors and poets coming in to both schools to read and host writing workshops for the children, there are scientists coming to perform crazy experiments, and of course, the perpetual favorite ‘Dirtmeister’ will be coming later this year. Watch your children’s backpacks for information on all of these events.
