March 2013 Updates: Hahgoot’s News

We had a trip to see Dr Leal in Stanmore (the Paediatrician that diagnosed Hahgoot with

Aspergers) and that’s the last time we need to see her before reassessment in adolescence.

On the way back we checked out the cows in the public high school.

Morning routine was getting on my nerves, so Barak took over for a

while. He found a new way to “encourage” Hahgoot to get out of

bed: he pops bubble wrap. He ordered something that arrived in a box with extra large bubble wrap

and nicknamed it “Mr. Popper”. Just the thought of the noise it might make when popping gets Hahgoot

out of bed promptly...

Night routine has been a lot easier. Hahgoot has some nice new items: PJs from Emma and Deena, fluffy

sleeping socks and woollen slippers.Winter is around the corner!

Hahgoot’s self care and hygiene habits are far from pleasing so we got her a special light that measures 2 minutes for brushing teeth and 20 seconds for washing hands, using a

blinking green light that turns to red. She hates it and completely ignores the device. Alma, on the other hand, loves it and protests if we don’t turn it on...

At last, Hahgoot started to cooperate with the chores chart. She does the chores in her style, which is fine by me...

Hahgoot has been cooperating really well with the swimming classes but she doesn’t really understand the whole picture of swimming, so we read a very detailed book with many photos and I use dolls to explain how her

body should move in the water. The motor planning issues make it harder.

Hahgoot prefers to draw from her head about 98% of the time, but once in a while I manage to get her to observe as well...

Hahgoot wanted to make Easter cards for her friends at school and Alma joined in.

She did an Easter inspired art workshop on a Sunday at the Penrith

Regional Gallery and had an Egg-celent time!

They planted carrot sprouts in decorated egg

shells, and then could plant them in the garden

at home. Cute!

Alma got a new set of stampers with moody faces, which Hahgoot liked too.

Left: making up her own marble run course

Middle: designing “stickers”

Right: making up her own paper airplane design

Hahgoot’s “smile-of-the-month”: The zombie grin...
