Mr* Donald Havens,

Brooklyn, 2T.Y*

Dear Don:-

: I have been away for a week and h&ve just seen

your letter concerning Military Bervice, I have recently

received word froia Washington which, X think, covers your

inquiry. It is probable that another series of officers

Training Gasps will be held but definite arrangements have not

been made. The Adjutant-General has advised me that appoint-... ■ % . P ' : "

raents will probabjr be wade froit certain designated colleges

and from enlisted men. 71- rule set down In Washington ia that

undergraduates and graduates of nutgero aunt hare had at leant

two years of military training in college before they can he

recommended. You can not therefore he recommended from the

college at the present tirae*If, however, you are drafted, that puts you In

another category and you can make application through the college

ae a man already in the service of the United States. '?« may recommend our alumni-who have enlisted or who have haan drafted.whether they took our military course or not.

7he only thing for you to *«• therefore, as far

as the Training Camp 1b oonoemed is to wait until you are

drafted and than* if tho college ie permitted to recommend men,

you may send your application to Major Bigelow. As soon as we

hear whether or not Rutgers is designated as one of the colleges

which may make recommendations I shall write yon, I hope

that you will keep in touch with me vrhererer you may he,

With all good wishes,

Dear Don:

According, ’to in struct lone just received from Washington

Rutgers may rucowuond twenty five men for the fourth Officers'

Training Camp hut the men recommended must have had at least one

year of military training at Rutgers College. There is, thereto

no my we can get around the ruling and place you our list. I

should be very glad to do something but it Is impossible. I do

not know of the headquarters of the camp in Hew York City. I

hardly think there are any as reconjnendation? are to be made

through the arty cantonments and from the colleges thomoelveo.

I am sorry that I cannot give you more favorable news.

Very truly yours.
