Poster PresentationThe Railroad Environmental Conference will be held in Octoberin Urbana, IL. Jeb Barrett will be presenting a poster on“Remediation without Devastation”. The poster points out thatusing a mobile industrial vacuum loader (vacuum truck) providesa type of cleanup that minimizes the impact to the environmentand neighboring structures. With the use of vacuum trucks bothsolid and liquid contaminates can be safely recovered withoutremoving extra soils and vegetation that can increase disposal andrestoration costs.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIPMarion’s Emergency Response Manager,Bubba Bryan, is involved with the North Amer-ican Railcar Equipment Engineering Commit-tee, a twelve member committee. The missionof the committee is to develop the best, mostdependable and safest railcar possible. Thecommittee is made up of railcar manufacturers,engineers, metallurgists and professionalresponders from all parts of North America.Bubba will be attending the annual meetingnext month in Dallas.

Phase I:

Consultation – Marion Environmental made a Phase I presentation at anational bank about area services our consulting department provides. Ourexperts explained the Phase I process and ASTM standards to a dozen lend-ers. American Institute of Professional GeologistGeorgia Section 4th Conference Innovative Environmental Assessmentand Remediation Technology

The American Institute of Professional Geologist (AIPG) Georgia Sectionconducted its fourth annual environmental conference in Kennesaw, Georgiaon September 12th & 13th. Attendees received an update on Georgia Envi-ronmental Protection Division’s recently developed (2009) VoluntaryRemediation Program and potential regulations concerning vapor intrusionconsiderations associated with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments.Presentations detailing subsurface remediation case studies touched on mul-tiple types of chemical injections (successes and failures), electrical resis-tance heating, new spins on pump & treat systems, and natural attenuation.MEI prides itself on service, thus, MEI employees in attendance were eagerto incorporate additional treatment methods and regulations to benefit bothcurrent and future clients.
