Continuously increasing demand from the automotive industry for documen-tation and traceability of all production steps will require a unique serial number for aluminium wheels in the near future.
Consistent documentation of critical character-istics and a zero-fault demand in production and logistic are the actual requirements from the car manufacture. to follow this complex guidelines, numteC has developed a serial number system with mArK400 / CAm200 for full traceability of aluminium wheels through the entire production process.

optimized for the special demands and requirements of an aluminium wheel production process, the system enables in combination with a database system new possibilities. With our CAm200 camera systems based on industrial pC equipment we can read wheels on the fly with a speed of up to 30 m/min. on a conveyor. As the system will usually be implemented into an already existing plant, we have designed our mArK400 for an absolute minimum of floor space required. All necessary safety equipment is directly implemented in the mArK400 machine, no external fences or protection is necessary.

AutomAtiC Control reADinGthe Data matrix code will be checked immediately after marking in the machine with the integrated CAm200 reading system. this ensures a stable marking quality and nearly 100% readability at the reading stations in the following production steps.
the marking machine comes with a wheel type and orientation recognition system to find the correct marking location. to be able to mark also in very small pockets, the position will be checked and the marking will be precise orientated to the pocket position. the marking will be done as early as possible in the production process, i.e. directly after casting process or x-rAy process.
the code must be applied to a surface which will not be machined and painted in the production process. the needed surface area is around 14x14mm. Best suitable for the marking area are the lightning pockets in the wheel attachment face as they have the necessary preconditions in respect of machining and surface treatment.
the in total 16 numeric values in the code can be used individually. As example, 2 numbers for producer, 2 numbers for production year, 12 numbers for mold and serial. But generally, the use of the numbers can be customized for the actual need of every wheel plant.
the Data matrix code is a 2D-Code which is used for permanent marking with laser in the production process. the code contains information and fault correction data, as size a 14x14 segment code with a total data capacity of 16 numeric values will be used in the wheel industry. With the redundant code system, a reading rate of nearly 100% can be achieved.

inDustriAl Componentseach reading unit is built in a rugged ip67 housing, with 2 leD-lights and a camera system. the control unit is using an industrial pC and a small display unit. for reliability and data safety, every informa-tion is stored on an ssD flash drive, including automatic data buffering for network interruption cases.
the reading of the codes can be done up to speed of 30m/min on the fly. A standard CAm200 covers a horizontal reading area of 150mm. on applications where the wheels are coming totally chaotic on the roller table (no centring to the middle), the system can be equipped with 2 cameras. this covers a reading window of 300mm which will be enough for all applications. for special cases, every reading ipC can connect up to 3 reading heads simultaneously. the reading dis-tance vertically can vary from 50mm to 250mm which will be enough to cover all wheels sizes and different offsets. the reading system will be installed below the roller table.
