Everyday Dentistry - More than Everyday Esthetic resultsPresented by: Robert C. Margeas, DDS
Course Description: This lecture is designed for today’s esthetically minded, real-world dentist and staff.
Dr. Margeas will review dozens of direct and indirect clinical cases – step-by-step – that are done in real time on an everyday basis. These include: porcelain veneers from preparation, provisionalization, and cementation. Direct composite resin veneers, class IV restorations, diastema closure, peg laterals, and porcelain repair. Learn how to create perfect ovate pontic sites following extraction. Simplified implant techniques and coordinating treatment with your surgeon for immediate extraction, placement, and provisionalization using the patient’s natural tooth. Treating the worn dentition will be explained with different treatment options. The techniques learned can be incorporated into your practice immediately for increased profitability.
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this course, you will learn:
• How to properly layer and finish composite resins that mimic nature
• How to provisionalize immediately following implant placement • Porcelain veneers, from preparation to cementation• How to diagnose and treat the worn dentition• When to bond restorations vs. cementation

Infection Control and Safety - 2014Presented by: Kathy Eklund, RDH, MHP
Course Description: The goal of an infection prevention and control program is to prevent health care-associated infections and injuries, as well as illnesses in healthcare personnel. Recently, two incidents of hepatitis B and C virus transmission in dental settings have been reported in the professional and general news media, stimulating public and professional concern for patient safety. We will review a “best practices” framework for developing and managing an effective and efficient infection control and safety program that promotes patient and provider safety. Strategies for ensuring compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and other relevant recommendations, regulations and standards will also be discussed. Resources and tools from the CDC, OSHA, the Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), and other regulating agencies will be shared with participants.
Course Objectives:Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Describe the basic concepts and foundational principles of “best practices” for infection prevention and control
• Identify credible resources for infection prevention and control • Use tools and resources to develop best practices for a site-specific
infection prevention and control program
About the Presenter: Kathy Eklund, RDH, MHP is the Director of Infection Control and Occupational Health, and Research Participant and Patient Safety Advocate at The Forsyth Institute in Cambridge, Mass. She is an adjunct assistant professor at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene, and an adjunct faculty member of the Mount Ida College Dental Hygiene Program, where she teaches senior-level courses in oral health research and evidence-based decision-making.
Ms. Eklund serves on the faculty of the New England AIDS Education and Training Center and www.HIVdent.org.
