Problems: •  Need to focus also

on distribution

•  Too narrow a measure of quality of life

Utilitarian approaches based on preference satisfaction (281-283)

Problems: •  Distribution again; focus on aggregate rather than

individuals •  “adaptive preferences”—can reinforce inequalities
