On being abroad during the COVID-19 Pandemic:WT study abroad alumnus, Roger Onofre

"When the pandemic was announced, I wasgiven the option to return to the US. I,however, turned it down. Moroccans tookthe matter seriously, and had began to self-quarantine before it became mandatory.The streets were less populated as dayswent by. Businesses were ordered to close,and the sanitizing of public spaces washappening in early March. Another reasonI decided to stay was just how caring myneighbor, friends, and students were. Ireceived dozens of texts a day asking aboutmy health. My neighbor would leave hotmeals on my porch, and my past hostfamilies invited me back into their homesduring the pandemic. Until this day I amglad I decided to stay. Morocco may not beas medically advanced as the US, but thepeople share the same vision, and that is toend this pandemic together."
