DESCRIPTION

Presentation of my Internship experience in 4th year AERO 4003 course. Covers my engine assembly of CF6 50 engine, MCD test of PW 4156 (A 310) and B 737 powerplant system. Also discusses the Hydraulic oil leak detection of APU of DC 10

TRANSCRIPT

By Kamal Mahmud

Engine Oil is used for cooling and lubricatingbearing compartments and AGB of Aircraft Engine

Pumps (Scavenger pumps) are used to circulate oil around the components from oil tank

MCDs detect unwanted material from engine oil

This tells if there is any mechanical failure in the engine bearing or gears of AGB

P.S does not show the pumps

GE CF6 80 is used in Boeing 747GE 90 used in Boeing 777GEnx to be used in Boeing 787 & Airbus A 350

There are 3 MCDs in CFM 56 7B engine◦ Forward Sump

◦ Rear Sump

◦ AGB

Scavenge oil filter

Supply oil Filter

Each MCD has ◦ Probe (M & M)

◦ Valve

Six pushbutton MCD◦ 4 scavenger oil tubes

◦ 1 in AGB

◦ 1 in oil tank

After removing the MCD, if chips are found then MCDs are washed using special solvent

The mixture is collected and taken to lab for analysis & the faulty component is found

Serious problem; the engine is changed or else aircraft grounded

Detected while doing Pre-flight inspection on a late night flight of MD DC-10-30

Oil leak at beneath Empennage Area

Oil reservoir was almost empty

Found out that the problem was with APU connection

Cockpit crew notified not to use APU

Alternative method used to start engine

This would be detected in other detection procedures
