Meet the Teacher/ Open House 2011

Mrs. SaundersThis is my 14th year

teaching and 7th at Kohrville.

I have 3 boys and 2 are attending Kohrville.

Daily Schedule

Computer lab- Wednesday

Library- Monday Lunch 10:35-11;05 Music Tuesday 12:45-

1:30 and Friday 8;30-9:15 PE Monday, Wednesday

and Thursday, 12:45-1:30 and Friday 9:15-10:00

Discipline/Social Skills

Moving Sticks. Each infraction equals a two minute time out. This is noted on their daily folder that goes home every day.

Sticks can be taken off for corrected behavior.

Warnings and positive reinforcement are given.

Lunchroom Procedures

Each child has his/her own pin number.

Lunches cost $1.75 or you can deposit more into their account. Send money in an envelope with the following information: Child’s name, Mrs. Saunders, Kinder, $___, and pin number or online at www.kleinisd.net.

ELA (English language arts)

For large groups, we will use a program utilizing big books and student books. We will be working in small Guided Reading groups to allow more intensive work and individual assistance.

Letters completed by Christmas break.

Reading their sight words is a must.

Math

Included, but not limited too:

1. Count to 100 by 1’s 5’s and 10’s

2. Adding and subtracting

3. Position words

4. Shapes/solids

5. Patterns

6. Calendar

Attendance

Attendance is recorded at 9:45 am. If your child is not here at that time, he/she is counted absent. If your child is absent and sees a doctor, please send a note from the doctor to be excused.

Classwork begins at 8:15 every day. Please remember that when your child misses school at any time during the day, he/she misses the skills taught during that time.

Written notice is needed for all absences. (email or handwriten note.)

Weekly Folders

This will come home on Tuesday. Please sign and return the next day.

The weekly report reflects behavior from the prior week.

Please check all the work in the folder with your child.

Flyers from the office will be found here.

•Homework Folders

Homework starts in September 6th.

Homework is sent home on Monday and is to be returned on Thursday.

Please assist your child. Do not do the homework for them.

All HW should be able to be completed on one page in the spiral notebook.

Conferences

Email, call the school or my phone and I will get back with you as soon as possible to set up an appointment. My conference time is Monday-Thursday 12:45-1:30 or by appointment. If you have any problems or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email.

Backpacks

– Please make sure that your child has a change of

clothes in their backpacks. It is very important in case of emergency or those muddy days!!

– Please make sure that your child’s backpack is large enough to fit their homework and Tuesday folders. Your child will also get to pick a library book to bring home and it needs to be able to fit.

– Please no rolling backpacks.

Voice mails will be checked daily, usually at the end of the day. Call the front offices if you have an urgent message (absences, changes in way to go home, early dismissals, etc)

Book Orders

The due date will be written on the bottom of the order section. Make sure your child’s name is written on the bottom. Make checks payable to Scholastic Book Club.

Library

Library day is Monday at 9:15.Please read the book to your child.

Dismissal

3:06 Walkers are dismissed. 3:10 Car and day care

dismissed.. If you need an early dismissal

or your child is going home a different way, please send a note with your child in the morning. If a note is not received, your child will be sent home the usual way they go home unless I receive a note from the office.

Medical Needs

All medicine sent to school will need to be picked up by a parent. NO MEDICINE WILL BE SENT HOME WITH A CHILD!

Many pharmacists will provide you with an empty bottle so that you can send part of the medication and not have to come in daily.

Report Cards

Klein has a nine-week schedule for elementary children.

Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science,and Social Studies report card grades reflect as 50% daily(minor) grades and 50% major grades

E, S, N, U The first one will go home on

Friday, October 28th.

Special Events

– Field Day (first week in May)

Upcoming dates

October 10th- Parent/teacher conference. More information will follow. I will spend about 15 minutes with each of you on this day to discuss your child.

We can do a phone conference if too difficult to get off from work.
