Meeting Challenges

By Gail Greer

Unit Summary

This unit discusses challenges people face and how they overcome them. Students will create a unit project, in which they will choose an event

in the Special Olympics and research the challenges the competitors face. They will

browse Web sites to find information about these challenges. As they explore they will

analyze information they have found to determine whether or not it will be useful to

them and their project. They will combine information from different sources to develop their end product. Their end product will be to

create a newsletter about their event.

Unit Vision

FOR STUDENTS

I hope that students increase

their computer skills beyond the

basics, while gaining an

appreciation of the diversity of

others.

FOR TEACHER

I want to be able to provide the resources and time necessary

to ensure student success.

Gauging Student Needs AssessmentWhat do I hope to learn?

This will help give me a starting point of discussion.

What do I hope the students will learn? They will ask questions in which they will need to

seek answers in the “W” column. This will drive their research. As they find answers, they will fill

out the “L” column, which will help with their end-product.
