International organisations.
International organisations are entities established by
formal political agreements between their members that have the
status of international treaties; their existence is recognized by law
in their member countries; they are not treated as resident
institutional units of the countries in which they are located.
From the principle of state sovereignty to United Nations
bureaucracies, international relations are organized by a variety of
norms and institutions.
After tracing the history of international organization
(IO), as well as the intellectual development of its study, in
1990 Alexander Thompson and Duncan Snidal, University of
Chicago conceptualize IO in terms three levels of formality..,
IO as formal organization.
IO as regime.
IO as ordering principle.
FAO and its role in the management of world fisheries.
The role of Fao is to promote the state of world
food supply and improvement of agriculture including
fisheries. The initial efforts of Fao was directed to supply
and improvement of agriculture including fisheries. The
initial effort of Fao were directed to study the condition of
fisheries in the developed countries of Europe and then to
extend these studies to the common wealth countries.
The Fao began to specialise in propagating the message of
developing artisanal (small scale) fisheries by third world
countries.
The role of Fao in the management of world fisheries
or more appropriately third world fisheries, became explicit
with the growing extension of coastal state jurisdiction to the
EEZ and the eventually passing of the Law of the Sea in 1982.
National organisations. Most leading fishing nations have a plethora of national
organisations engaged in the promotion and regulation of
fisheries. In the majority of such countries, there are ministries
concerned with the management of fisheries exercising both
promotional and regulatory functions. Notable among such

Fisheries Management in Council in the United States, fisheries

bodies act as the central agencies for advising the national
governments for managing the fishing industry.
