LSB 357 O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
5 O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav’nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery. Refrain
6 O come, Thou Dayspring from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight. Refrain
7 O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of Peace.

L Let us pray.
Let the incense of our repentant prayer ascend before You, O Lord, and let Your loving-kindness descend
on us that, with purified minds, we may sing Your praises with the Church on earth and the whole
heavenly host and may glorify You forever.
C Amen.
Readings Reading Psalm 121
1I lift up my eyes | to the hills.*
From where does my | help come? 2My help comes | from the LORD,*
who made | heaven and earth.
3He will not let your | foot be moved;*
he who keeps you will not | slumber. 4Behold, he who keeps | Israel*
will neither slum- | ber nor sleep.
5The LORD is your | keeper;*
the LORD is your shade on your | right hand. 6The sun shall not strike | you by day,*
nor the | moon by night.
7The LORD will keep you from all | evil;*
he will | keep your life. 8The LORD will keep
your going out and your | coming in*
from this time forth and for- | evermore.
Reading 1 Corinthians 13:1—13:13 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging
cymbal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all
faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up
my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5or rude. It does not insist on its own
way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7Love bears
all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge,
it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when the perfect comes, the partial will
pass away. 11When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I
became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know
in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
L In many and various ways, God spoke to His people of old by the prophets.
C But now in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son.

Prayer
Litany LSB 249 The congregation’s response may begin just as the leader’s petition ends so that the word “Lord” is sung
simultaneously by both leader and congregation.
L For the peace from above and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us
pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For this holy house and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For [names of synodical and district presidents], for all pastors in Christ, for all servants of the Church,
and for all the people, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For [name of president or monarch], for all public servants, for the government and those who protect us,
that they may be upheld and strengthened in every good deed, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For those who work to bring peace, justice, health, and protection in this and every place, let us pray to
the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For those who bring offerings, those who do good works in this congregation, those who toil, those who
sing, and all the people here present who await from the Lord great and abundant mercy, let us pray to the
Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For favorable weather, for an abundance of the fruits of the earth, and for peaceful times, let us pray to the
Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For our deliverance from all affliction, wrath, danger, and need, let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.
L For . . . [additional bids for prayer may be inserted here] . . . let us pray to the Lord:
C Lord, have mercy.

The prayers then continue:
Silence for individual prayer may follow.
Collect For Peace L O God, from whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works, give to us, Your servants,
that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey Your commandments and also
that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus
Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and
forever.
C Amen.
Lord’s Prayer LSB 251 L Taught by our Lord and trusting His promises, we are bold to pray:
C Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen.
