Dear Parents and Community
I can’t believe that we are almost at Easter
already! This week is a short week due to Good
Friday and we don’t come back to school next
week un l Wednesday. Before we know it, we
will be on holidays!
Swimming Carnival
Congratula ons to all of our students who
par cipated in the Small Schools Interschool
Swimming Carnival last Friday. Even though it
was a cooler day, our students showed
perseverance, sportsmanship and
encouragement throughout the day, and even
came home with the winning shield! We had a
fun day in the bay and appreciate all of the
parents and family members who turned up to
cheer us on. A special thank you to Joey
Seymour, who was a judge on the day and to
Janet Lewis, who braved the cold water to act as
a res ng post. Congratula ons to our swimmers
who came home with trophies; Sophie Seymour
who won Senior Champion Girl, Tom Lewis who
won Runner-up Intermediate Champion Boy,
Heidi Seymour, who won Intermediate
Champion Girl and Mikala Topham, who won
Junior Champion Girl. I am so proud of all of our
swimmers on the day, as well as our posi vity
and behaviour in the bay. Thank you to Mrs
Dennis, Miss Wilson and Wil for their hard work
in the bay throughout the day.
Nature Play Commiee
We have developed a Nature Playground
Commi3ee to support the crea on and
development of our Nature Playground,
consis ng of Annaleis Topham, Joey Seymour,
Olivia Mincherton and Helmi Seymour. Our first
mee ng will be on the last Tuesday of this term
where we will formulate a plan to move forward
and then begin to put our plans into ac on
within the first couple of weeks of Term 2.
Assembly
Next Thursday, 31st
March, we will have our
Senior Assembly. A9er the Assembly, parents
are welcome to visit the classrooms to see what
their children have been learning and crea ng.
A9er this, there will be a P&C mee ng. We hope
to see many of you there.
Cervantes P.S. Visit
Last Thursday, Mrs Jones and I travelled to
Cervantes Primary School for a visit with Natalie
Dennis and the administra on staff. Cervantes
PS is a very successful IPS school, and the
purpose of our visit was to learn from what they
have achieved, as well as their experiences
through the IPS journey. The day was
overwhelming, but extremely posi ve and we
have both come away with some clearer ideas
of how we can use IPS to our advantage in the
best and most successful ways possible. It will
mean slight changes and improvements in the
way we plan and organise things, as well as
changes to the responsibili es and expecta ons
of our School Board. However all of these
changes are working toward be3er outcomes
for our school and our students and ensuring
that we are all working toward one goal and
vision, while consistently a3emp ng to improve
in all areas. It was a very successful visit and I
extend a huge thank you to Natalie and her staff
for their warm welcome and the amount of
informa on and support that they were willing
to share.
School Shirts
Our P&C have organised the crea on of some
male and female school shirts for staff, parents,
families and community members. I have
included a picture of the shirt as well as a size
chart. If you would like to order one or need
more informa on, please contact the school.
We do have some of the sizes available for you
to try on at the school if you like. They will be
$32.50 each and payment will be required prior
to pick-up. An order will be going in Friday, April
1st
.

EASTER TRIVIA
⇒ The Easter Bunny, as a holiday deliverer of candy and eggs, is thought to have started in Germany during the
Middle Ages.
⇒ Colouring eggs was brought to a high art when medieaval English kings dispersed hundreds of decorated,
gold-leafed eggs throughout the royal household at Easter.
⇒ Russian Czar Alexander was later responsible in 1883 for commissioning the famous Faberge Eggs as an
Easter gi9 for his wife.
⇒ True or False? Eggs contain nearly every nutrient known to be essen al to humans. (True)
⇒ Which came first? The chicken or the egg? (That’s a good ques on!!)
HAPPY EASTER
Miling Tennis Club 2015 / 2016 Season Wrap Up
As the hockey & golf s cks are dusted off, the end of another tennis season has been signalled. A fun filled closing
day was held on Saturday culmina ng with the presenta ons. (And cheesecake!) It goes without saying that there
are many different aspects that contribute to the running of a successful club, and it’s fiBng that a BIG thank you is
extended to …
Our President Paul White, who upholds the smooth running of our club, and has been instrumental in ensuring our
flash new courts became a reality – a massive undertaking and one that has been enjoyed by all.
Our Vice president Riana Georgy, who I’ve heard may soon have the opportunity to wear the President’s hat.
Our Treasurer Shilo Bailey, who has very capably taken over the financial reins from Clare Douglas.
Our Secretary Kylie Mackintosh, who has nervously taken over from the soopa competent Vikki Harrington. It is
mely to men on that Vikki also had a mammoth part to play in the orchestra on of our impressive new courts,
and we are grateful for her dedica on.
Our Club Captain, Karen Ellis who seems to be the glue that holds everyone & everything together. It is nigh on
impossible to maintain happy & content sets throughout the en re season and Karen’s reless efforts &
commitment to ensure everyone has a fun & fair go is greatly appreciated.
Our Vice Captain Annaleis Topham, who is always ready & willing to step up when the need arises.
Our Catering Officer Sheryle Moore, who has perhaps the most thankless of all tasks. Sheryle has once again done
a superb job.
Our Beverages Officer Mark McCuish, who consistently maintains a various supply of drinks making certain
everyone has ample selec on when they need to rehydrate!
Our Gardener Vikki Harrington, who has ensured the survival & healthy growth of the newly planted na ves.
Our Club Patron Colin Jones, who together with Vikki, are regulars at the tennis club with Colin showing recently
that he can definitely s ll hold his own on the tennis court.
Our footy pping co-ordinators, Vikki Harrington & Sheryle Moore. It’s a big job correla ng this throughout our off
season and we are very grateful the ladies are happy to volunteer their me & services. A major note of thanks
also to Vikki Jones who takes on the role of prin ng & coordina ng the publica on of the footy pping books. A
major feat all on its own.
As men oned earlier, we celebrated this season’s award recipients, and Congrats goes to our most consistent
Men’s & Ladies players, Russell Dennis & Karen Ellis. Winners of the Mixed Doubles Championships were Max
Lewis & Kylie Mackintosh, followed closely by runners up Neil Mackintosh & Karen Ellis. The winners were spoilt
respec vely with the generous dona ons of Colin & Vikki Jones, Mark & Vikki Harrington and Neil & Kylie
Mackintosh. Thanks of course to our kind donors.
It is with pride, that as a result of our new turf courts, the ladies were once again able to par cipate in the Moore
District Ladies Mid Week Pennants Compe on. The team consisted of Vikki Harrington, Sheryle Moore, Karen
Ellis, Jenny Pearson & Annaleis Topham. The team had a flying start, finishing second on the ladder for the first half
of the season. The format was changed for the second half and although the ladies didn’t finish as they started,
they were s ll finished the season a very respectable third.
Lastly, but certainly not leastly, THANKS to the 40+ members without whom we wouldn’t have a Tennis Club. Enjoy
the season of winter sports and we’ll see everyone back later in the year, at the rippa li3le Tennis Club that is
Miling.
