Ministry news

In honor and thanksgiving for the life of Rev. Dr. Billy Graham, Nov. 7, 1918– Feb. 21, 2018 Billy Graham’s Inaugural Prayer from 1997 - Lord … remind us today that You have shown us what is good in what You require of us; to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. We ask that as a people, we may humble ourselves before You and seek Your will for our lives and for this great nation. Help us in our nation to work as never before to strengthen our families and to give our children hope and a moral foundation for the future. So may our desire be to serve You, and in so doing, serve one another. This we pray in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Westminster will be hosting the Lenten Lunch this year on Wednesday, March 7. Our church has been a part of this ministry for many years and we consider it to be a wonderful community outreach. It takes a lot of volunteers for this project to be a success and we would love to have your help! If you can lend a hand, please contact Bobbie Bonar, Norma Lindsay or Andi Shifflett. Many thanks!

Do you have some canning jars you would like to recycle? The Lenten Lunch crew is in need of pint and quart jars (with or without lids) to use to sell any left-over Brunswick stew on March 7th. If you have some you would like to donate please contact Bobbie Bonar, Norma Lindsay or Andi Shifflett or leave them in the social hall kitchen. Many thanks.

Owen from First Baptist Wednesday, March 7 Westminster Presbyterian Rev. Chapman from First Presbyterian Wednesday, March 14 First Baptist Rev. If you are planning to attend the Lenten Lunch this week on Wednesday, please contact Andi Shifflett at 2ashiffletts@ntelos.net or 942-3860 to make a reservation before 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Monday). This will provide a tentative number for the host church. However, if your plans change, feel free to attend even if you do not have a reservation. Thanks!

Many thanks to all who attended the Congregational Gathering on Sun., Feb. 18 in regards to weddings at Westminster. If you would like to share feedback, comments or questions regarding the change to the Book of Order concerning marriage and whether we as a church will allow or deny the use of the church propriety for the marriage service of a same gender couple, please email comments to Judy Glover, co-pilot of the Worship Ministry at jaglover08@gmail.com. All comments are needed by Feb. 28. The worship ministry will discern their decision during the season of Lent for their recommendation to Session.

Mission Highlights

Meds for Haiti: Dr. Bob Gunther is again traveling to Haiti and has asked if WPC can help to

support the purchase of medications for this international medical outreach. Medications range in cost from $25 to $200. Since medications will be

purchased next month, donations are needed in February. A donation from Westminster of $664 has been given from funds raised over the years held in a Haiti fund. If you would like to make an additional donation today, please make checks to

WPC with the memo "Meds for Haiti" or give online by selecting the Haiti fund. All donations that are given this month will go towards the

purchase of medications. If you have any questions please contact the Witness Ministry.

Many thanks to our guest speaker, John Reed for sharing information about the Haiti

Mission in worship today.
