ECHOES CHOIR STARTS SEPT 16TH, at our usual time of 10:00 a.m..
Hope to see you all there...
Yes, the dog days of summer are almost past us now. Oh sure, dogs are still sleeping in the shade of trees and the Blue Jays are twenty
games below five hundred, but Sirius(ly) autumn is approaching. It is getting very difficult to find your golf ball after 8:30 pm. Although the leaves have not yet turned, the Floor Curling Bonspiel is less than a month away. Special thanks to Dave McVicar for building shelves in the storage shed. Not only did he provide the la-bour at no charge, but he used old material – so the job came in way under budget. Perfect! Thanks also to Les for supervising. The Duplicate bridge hosted a special bridge ses-sion on Tuesday, August 20 for the bridge players from Selkirk. We had 11 tables (44 players) and a lot of fun. Local players provide the 3C's -coffee, cook-ies and cake. Dale Klassen and Peter Frose ran the session, and Harvey Benson provided pickerel filets for prizes. Roman Puzant generously hosted a drop in event at his home for the bridge players after the event. A good time was had by all! I hope to see many of you at the Membership BBQ on Tuesday, September 10th at 2pm, another defi-nite sign of fall. Food, games, and fellowship are there for the asking as you renew your membership. Perfect! The success of New Horizons depends upon our volunteers. We have a strong core of volunteers, but unfortunately they are aging and need to reduce their level of support. We definitely need our younger members to step forward and broaden our volunteer base. So please, if you are interested in increasing your level of volunteer support make your intentions known as you renew your membership. New Horizon's Annual Fall Supper will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 3 to 6 pm. The volunteer sign up sheets are up now and there are many ways you can help make this event a big suc-cess. Hope to see you all there!
Friday Lunches will resume on September 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Our lunch teams will again be preparing delicious meals featuring an Entrée, side dish, and desert all for
$6.00. Everyone is welcome, a great place to bring your friends for a nice lunch!

Due to the number of bowlers unable to start on Sep-
tember 5th, the starting date will be moved to Septem-
ber 12th. I will be calling everyone to inform them of
this change. Also due to the higher cost of our Ban-
quet Dinner we will have to raise our membership
fees by $5.00 to $35.00. We will also be looking for a
new President, Vice President and Treasurer for the
coming year. I’d like everyone to give some thought to
volunteer for these positions as we can’t have a
league without an executive. See you all on Septem-
ber 12th at 12:30.

The Pancake Breakfast was a great success once
again this year. The temperatures outside for the three
day span were favorable so there were lots of families
getting together for some delicious pancakes and sau-
sages. Numbers were up this year seeing about 150
more people through the doors than last year. In total
1401 people were served over the three days. We now
turn our energies into preparing for the Annual Fall
Supper, gathering volunteers and making arrange-
ments for Sunday, September 22nd.

Summer is winding down and people are getting back to their normal routine after a break for the summer.
This is my final report. Following the AGM in early Oc-tober you will have a new Membership Chairman. My best wishes go to that person. Ron and I will be in Eng-land travelling and visiting with friends and relatives who no longer want or are able to travel.
I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to at-tend the annual Membership BBQ. Thank you Elaine and Jackie for looking after this event.
Current members are encouraged to renew their mem-bership and new members are welcome. 2013-2014 Membership fees will remain $20.00 for the activity year. If you are unable to attend the Membership BBQ your membership may be paid at the office during regu-lar hours Monday through Friday.
Thank you to all the volunteers and office staff who spend many hours keeping activities and events run-ning smoothly.

The slate of nominees for our Board in the election at the October Annual General Meeting has been submitted and is posted in the Centre. Thank you to those who were called and were so very supportive and encouraging even if they were not available to serve this year. Those who accepted are to be thanked and appreciated. JAMMERS

Hi Ya’All!
Our jamming is going Great. We had two of our fans out fairly regularly last month and
were surprised to see them at Betel on the 21st as well. They commented on how much they enjoy our music and songs. Drop in any Wednesday from 1:00
to 3:00 p.m. and you can enjoy our music as well.
Us “old” jammers are Not Too Bad.
See you Soon!
We had a Tai Chi workshop on Saturday, June 22 with Tai Chi members from across Manitoba. The people were very impressed with our facility at New Hori-zons.
It brought to mind, once again, of how fortunate we are to belong to such a wonderful organization, that would not exist without the huge number of volun-teers, from Board Members to all who donate their time and expertise. Thank you to all. A job well done!
Beginners tai chi classes are available only once a year. This year our session started on Aug 6, 2013.
See the bulletin board at New Horizons for more infor-mation.
Looking for a gentle, relaxing exercise, that gives you strength, and flexibility? Tai Chi is the answer.
Tai Chi is held at New Horizons on Tuesday and Fri-day mornings. In August each year there is a class for beginners to Tai Chi. As the year progresses and the beginners learn some of the moves they are incorpo-rated into the continuing class.
For more information on this excellent activity you may contact Lina at 642-9695.
