Keri Bas
Howdy!
Philip James
hi everyone
Natasha Smith
hey =]
Jens Reineking
It's the only chat room I know of - except for the private ones. :-)
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey There :)
Me
Hey hey!
Jens Reineking
Hi!
Natasha Smith
Hi Emilie!!
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hi Emilie!
Philip James
Hi Emilie
Me
:D Hi Jens, Natasha, Corné, and Philip!
Corné Mac Kenzie
:)
Natasha Smith
If anyone wants some fun classical background music...I'm listening to my friend's dirge: https://soundcloud.com/emily-joy-sullivan/dirge
Philip James
Jens there could easily be another chat room lurking somewhere, this site is like a rabbitt warren :-D
Me
btw the chat can be accessed using the bottom right-hand toolbar, or by going here: http://theputtytribe.com/chat/
Philip James
But a really nice one :)
Corné Mac Kenzie
It's my first chat experience. Is there a plan for this?
Natasha Smith
*hands out cupcakes*
Jens Reineking
The separate chat room is nice.
Corné Mac Kenzie
If no plan, that's also totally cool.
Me
Not really, Corné. Though I think Natasha is handing out cupcakes, so that's cool. :)
Philip James
I can't eat those :(
Jens Reineking
Thanks *starts muching*
Natasha Smith
they're gluten-free!
Philip James
are they sugar free?
Natasha Smith
No :(
Corné Mac Kenzie
I can only eat gluten-free :)
Jens Reineking
Have some baby carrots, Philip.
Natasha Smith
Next time I'll make paleo cupcakes with honey though
Philip James
*munches a carrot*
Corné Mac Kenzie
I lov ehoney.
Angela Rodriguez
Hello Everyone!
Philip James
sounds good
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Angela :)
Me
What's everybody up to today?
Angela Rodriguez
Natasha, I'm listening to your friend's music
Jens Reineking
ehoney? Made by allo the bugs on the web? ;-)
Natasha Smith
Writing!
Corné Mac Kenzie
Mastering Photoshop and Explaindio.
Angela Rodriguez
I haven't heard the word dirge before
Glen Matthes
Dirge - isn't that a funeral march?
Debbie Tlach
making art :)
Me
That's awesome. What are you writing, Natasha?
Natasha Smith
Yeah? She was in my a cappella group in undergrad and has been directing choirs and doing lots of awesome stuff since. Love her :)
Jens Reineking
Explaindido? Sounds interesting. What is that?
Neil Hughes
is there a way of making the chat bigger?
also hi everyone :)
Natasha Smith
Working on my first-year MFA play! It's about polyamory, it's a lot of fun.
Me
Yup! http://theputtytribe.com/chat/
Debbie Tlach
Hi Neil!
Angela Rodriguez
Is that her singing?
Me
And hi Neil!
Philip James
sounds it natasha
Natasha Smith
Angela: yes!
Neil Hughes
awesome :)
Corné Mac Kenzie
Jens: I meant honey - been a beekeeper by profession.
Debbie Tlach
Hi Emily! what are you doing today?
Neil Hughes
this reminds me of early days on the internet. i miss having to follow your thread of conversation through all the scrolling
Heather Ratcliff
Hi all! Yes what is Explaindio?
Corné Mac Kenzie
Explaindio: video creation software.
Me
Neil, Valerie is virtually handing you a slice of her orange.
Natasha Smith
Neil: Hi!! I've been reading your book about anxiety and I LOVE IT! I haven't finished it yet but it's so good!
Jens Reineking
I know :-) (not about the beekeeping), but I couldn't resist.
Neil Hughes
oh wow, thanks Natasha... <3 *embarrassed but pleased face*
Natasha Smith
:D
Neil Hughes
ooh thanks valerie. i just ate some chicken wings, and now I'm drinking water. this party is out of control.
Corné Mac Kenzie
I've tried Videoscribe before but find that Explaindio has more features for making explainer videos.
Jens Reineking
Have to look Explaindido up. I'm working with Permiere.
Me
Hi Debbie! I'm meeting up with a photographer in a few hours to see about getting some new/professional shots taken. Then I'll probably do some writing.
Philip James
oh I need to read about that, Neil
Angela Rodriguez
Beautiful! I sing Classical music in a Women's Chorale (which makes me think of horses when I say it *neighhhh*.
Me
Neil, hahaha
Heather Ratcliff
Thanks Corné. Will have to check it out.
Debbie Tlach
Exciting Emily! Have fun!
Neil Hughes
about anxiety, philip? :) (or was it the chicken wings?!)
Philip James
yeah - provided reading about it makes it better
Jens Reineking
Where is everyone logged in from? And what time is it for you? #curious
Me
Also, yes. I too enjoy the throw back to the early days of the internet. I spent many hours in chat rooms when I was like 13. Glad the Tribe gives us this function.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hi Neil - this chat is hectic. Never done this before :)
Philip James
not the chicken wings
Angela Rodriguez
I'm in Orlando, FL and it's 2:05pm here.
Glen Matthes
Definitely reminds me of chat rooms 1989 style
Neil Hughes
hehe :) i think it may help, philip, at least... some people have told me that it does!
Philip James
when I was 13, there was no internet
Corné Mac Kenzie
It's 8:05 pm in SA.
Tom Franov
Hi, I'm Tom, this is my first Putty Chat
Angela Rodriguez
SA?
Debbie Tlach
New Jersey...2:05
Keri Bas
the scrolling has already gotten out of control. :) -- I'm in Houston, TX. 1:05 pm.
Angela Rodriguez
South Africa?
Tom Franov
In Pleasantville, NY
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Tom :)
Jens Reineking
19.05 in Germany.
Tom Franov
hey
Neil Hughes
early 90s I spent SO long in chatrooms like this, just talking to people from all over the world. it was awesome.
6pm in the UK :)
Heather Ratcliff
2 p.m. Alexandria, VA
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Angela, yes :)
Me
What are you up to, Debbie?
Natasha Smith
Angela, my older sibling is a composer and has some great stuff up too: https://soundcloud.com/mattiamauree
Keri Bas
me, too, Neil - late 90s and 2000s I did a lot of time in MOOs, too. and IRC.
Neil Hughes
i think the hectic multitude of things going on in chats like this might be appealing to puttypeep :D
Jens Reineking
Never really got into chat rooms. Interest-wise, that is.
Glen Matthes
Yah think, Neil? :)
Natasha Smith
2 pm, Athens, Ohio.
Keri Bas
at least there are icons in here to break the lines. :)
Debbie Tlach
Art today! Yay! I organized my studio yesterday!
Philip James
I used to do them in the 90s too
Glen Matthes
Noon, Castle Rock, CO
Natasha Smith
Debbie: woooo organization!!!
Keri Bas
oooh, I did that, too, Debbie - my mom and I spent this week sorting SO MUCH fabric in our studio.
Debbie Tlach
Sort of Natasha! Lol!
Keri Bas
today I get to SEW. :)
Me
That's awesome, Debbie.
Tom Franov
I cleaned the house, and now I'm going to paint the bedroom
Angela Rodriguez
Corne, very cool. The masseuse that comes to the office every Monday is from South Africa but also has family in Israel
Me
Oh and I'm in Portland, and it is 11:07am.
Philip James
in London 18:08
Corné Mac Kenzie
Angela: SA = South Africa, More specifically, Cape Town.
Neil Hughes
@philip - if you are interested, you can check it out athttp://viewbook.at/walkingoncustard
ooh yay, another uk peep :)
Debbie Tlach
Oooh sewing Keri! I love to sew, haven't done it in a while!
Jens Reineking
Weekend: wrote two pieces for medium and created a birthday card for an aunt. She's getting 85.
Philip James
ok Neil I will
Corné Mac Kenzie
I also like sewing
Angela Rodriguez
Keri, what kind of sewing do you do?
Philip James
so far today, I wondered what happened to the rest of the day, then came here
Corné Mac Kenzie
This is a hectic chat - can;t keep up!
Neil Hughes
two pieces over one weekend is impressive, jens
Keri Bas
i'm making art quilts right now. and one baby quilt for a new family member. :)
Natasha Smith
Yeah! I have a Medium piece in mind but haven't gotten far on it yet.
Keri: those sound lovely. Quilts are the best.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Never made a quilt before, only clothing.
Neil Hughes
i'm endlessly impressed by people who can make things like clothes or quilts
Jens Reineking
Thanks, Neil. It's all direct publishing so to speak: write a small thing, read it over, throw it out into the world.
Me, too.
Never been a crafter.
Angela Rodriguez
Natasha, thanks for the link. I've already save it in my faves and will check it out. The organization I belong to is Central Florida Community Arts (www.cfcarts.com). I'm in the Women's Chorale *neighhh* and the Choir (just
over 300 singers this season)
Corné Mac Kenzie
Angela: so cool that you know someone from SA :)
Natasha Smith
That sounds so fun! I miss singing in groups.
Angela Rodriguez
Awesome, Keri. I make handbags.
Philip James
yes making things is not one of my potentialities
Angela Rodriguez
or bags, whatever you want to call it. :) I am a true "bag lady!'
Keri Bas
I'm in the planning stages for a quilt themed on human trafficking for a museum call. not quite a typical quilt, but art quilts come in all kinds.
Philip James
except food
Keri Bas
oooh, Angela, my mom makes wonderful handbags.
Tom Franov
I love quilts
Jens Reineking
I only ever sang in groups. Or in the car. Too emberassed for anything else.
Keri Bas
love it - I get very frustrated with all the niggly bits of those.
Corné Mac Kenzie
What went through your mind when you made the card for your aunt, Jens?
Tom Franov
Jens, was it music you wrote?
Angela Rodriguez
Keri, do you know your Mom's fave pattern designer?
Jens Reineking
Mostly, that she does not look it.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Keri, that seems a hectically emotionally theme ...
That's cool, Jens :)
Jens Reineking
And that I was surprised that I still could handle InDesign.
Me
My fiancé made me a quilt for Christmas a few years ago. It's actually more of a bedspread. So awesome.
Jens Reineking
Tom, no I just write words.
Angela Rodriguez
Keri, when you say 'museum call', what do you mean? Will it be displayed in a museum? BTW, that is one heck of a theme for a quilt. I'm sure it will be fabulous and look forward to seeing the finished product!
Brandon Black
Is this the chat or is there a room somewhere?
Corné Mac Kenzie
Tell us more Emilie ..
Tom Franov
cool, I write too
Keri Bas
Angela, she says the one she made the most was a McCall's pattern.
Glen Matthes
@Brandon, this is it
Me
@Brandon try this: http://theputtytribe.com/chat/
Debbie Tlach
Have to say Neil & Jens, I love your writing! So honest, vulnerable and valuable to others. you both inspire me.
Jens Reineking
Thanks, Debbie.
Neil Hughes
aw, thanks debbie :o :)
Corné Mac Kenzie
Nice Debbie :)
Brandon Black
there we go much better. Thanks Em :)
Keri Bas
the Holocaust Museum in Houston is hosting an art exhibit on the theme "Man's Inhumanity to Man" and a local gallery is hosting. the "call" is the guidelines announcement.
Natasha Smith
Sounds fascinating!
Me
Corné, it's got all of these big colourful triangles on it. Really cool. I was shocked when I saw it too. Must have taken her a while.
Debbie Tlach
:)
Me
Sure thing, Brandon.
Keri Bas
and our neighborhood is in the middle of a big awareness campaign / crime alert about local human trafficking so it is on the brain.
Natasha Smith
Damn! Is there a lot of that going on where you live, Keri?
Keri Bas
often the art calls don't accept fabric / textile, but this one says anything 2D or 3D that isn't moving / video.
Luis F. Pantoja
hello everyone! sorry I'm late :-/
Natasha Smith
hi luis!
Me
Hi Luis!
Jens Reineking
Hi Luis.
Debbie Tlach
Hi Luis!
Corné Mac Kenzie
Sounds awesome that someone would spend the time to do that Emilie !
Luis F. Pantoja
hey Natasha/Emilie/Jens/Debbie/et al :-)
Jens Reineking
The later the evening, the more beautiful the guests. (German saying)
Me
heheh
Neil Hughes
i'm just catching up, am super impressed/jealous that Angela gets a weekly masseuse in her office!
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Luis :)
Keri Bas
yes, apparently there is a real horror happening with the pipeline of girls from Central America into cantinas that front for prostitution.
Neil Hughes
lol jens :)
Luis F. Pantoja
nice saying, Jens
Philip James
Jens I think in English we call that Beer Goggles
Keri Bas
so the Superneighborhood here is trying to make people aware of the warning signs so they can call the cops.
Neil Hughes
i love the mix of deeply serious conversation and jokes about parties to welcome luis
Jens Reineking
It's mostly said to make people welcome. And by people who're late.
Me
LOL Neil, I had the same thought
Natasha Smith
Keri: Wow. Sounds like something worth getting involved in raising awareness about.
Such is the nature of chats :D
Neil Hughes
:D
Debbie Tlach
Or Jens here in the US the more you drink the better everyone looks!
Keri Bas
also Hi Luis! (sorry to be the downer)
Corné Mac Kenzie
I'm sorry to hear abot the trafficking in your 'hood, Keri. Makes me sad.
Me
I actually feel like this chat and the mix of radically different content is appropriate. :)
Neil Hughes
no keri, it's awesome to be informed about these things. sounds like the awareness campaign is working!
Natasha Smith
I had dinner with a local activist here in Athens last night and he was talking about how they go in to the frats on campus here to track what's going on and try to keep people safe. Lots of rape happening, this is a huge party school.
He said they'll clear the furniture from the main floor so that when a girl is too drunk, they'll take her upstairs "so she can lie down"
Jens Reineking
Trafficking is terrible, definitely. I mean, look at all the people desperately trying to get into Europe. My heart aches when I think about it.
Brandon Black
Neil you have TT link? I havent seen it yet
Corné Mac Kenzie
I cringe when I hear of suffering Natasha.
Me
Yeah, that is the worst, Natasha. It's a big problem.
Natasha Smith
Actually, the play that I was a dramaturg for that opened this week was about rape on a college campus. It's extremely powerful, what a show to be a part of. Controversial approach but the actors were amazing.
Jens Reineking
Is rape really such a big problem in the US? (Sorry, I don't have any German/European numbers to offer right now.)
Natasha Smith
"Really Really" by Paul Downs Colaizzo
Philip James
Natasha that is terrible, I'm continually shocked that this kind of thing still goes on
Luis F. Pantoja
Jens: I get the feeling it's particularly bad in colleges
Me
It's a huge problem in the US
Natasha Smith
Yep, pretty widespread. Reporting is low and convictions far lower
Keri Bas
we don't have a very good consent culture here in the US.
Me
Also a symptom of a bigger problem, but yeah
Philip James
I don't know numbers but I think it is not only in US
Jens Reineking
That makes me sick.
Luis F. Pantoja
probably a combination of young people, many w/o good judgement yet, and w/o close family contact
Keri Bas
and no real cultural literacy about non-sexual intimacy or nudity.
Neil Hughes
not yet, Brandon :( I got an email this week saying "tonight or tomorrow" but it STILL isn't uploaded! Hopefully in the very near future... I'm back in my patient pit of despair for now
Katherine Kroll
I went to college in a different SA (San Antonio) and official frat houses are banned there because the mayor or someone had a relative sexually assualted at a frat house
Natasha Smith
And a culture that makes it easy to get away with.
Luis F. Pantoja
(then again, some of that impression probably comes from the latin culture in me)
Katherine Kroll
Btw, hello everyone, I've been lurking and knitting :)
Corné Mac Kenzie
I have a few friends that were raped by family members. So sad. What does one say?
Neil Hughes
(I have seen the final edit though, and it exists and is - I think - pretty good.... so we'll see!)
Natasha Smith
Ask how you can be supportive! Every survivor handles it differently.
Me
Hi Katherine!
Brandon Black
Looking forward to it Neil
Natasha Smith
Can't expect people to "get over it" or that it's easier to not talk about it. That can be just as hard as having it come up too often.
Neil Hughes
hello katherine :)
Luis F. Pantoja
welcome, Katherine Lurker .... er... Kroll :-)
Me
Neil, I can't WAIT to see your Tedx talk
Natasha Smith
You have a Tedx talk??
Neil Hughes
hehe... i can't wait for you to see it either!
Philip James
oh yes, I want to see that too
Debbie Tlach
Yes Neil! I can't wait!!!
Neil Hughes
yeah, I did it a few months ago - all about anxiety and physics and custard and the brain
it's not uploaded yet :(
Keri Bas
Hi Katherine!
Neil Hughes
but SOON
Keri Bas
ooooh, custard.
Natasha Smith
Omg can't wait!!
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Natasha :) I usually don't say anything, just breathe with them and love them.
Jens Reineking
Let us know, Neil, let us know.
Natasha Smith
I will rope everyone I know into reading your book by getting them to watch that first.
:D
Heather Matinde
Hello, I just got here.
Luis F. Pantoja
you've really been building up to that release, Neil :-)
Neil Hughes
that sounds like an awesome deal, Natasha :D
Me
Heheh. We'll make sure to link to it in the Puttytribe newsletter when it comes out.
Neil Hughes
not deliberately, luis! I thought it would be up months ago....
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hi Heather :)
Neil Hughes
ooh yay, thanks Emilie <3
welcome heather!
Me
Hi Heather!
Luis F. Pantoja
hi Heather
Neil: well, it's working quite well, nonetheless, hehehehe
Brandon Black
They were waiting for me to get back Neil, that is why they were holding out
Keri Bas
brb, refilling my tea. :)
Me
Again, easier chatting can be found here:http://theputtytribe.com/chat/ (I'm going to keep doing this periodically throughout the party. Don't mind me.)
Luis F. Pantoja
hey Brandon! it's bee a while, man, good to see you
Debbie Tlach
Hey Katherine, what are you knitting?
Neil Hughes
haha, that's right Brandon! good to see you again :)
Angela Rodriguez
Oh my. I accidentally closed out of the chat and it took me about 5 mins to catch up on the chat when I got back in! I'm a slow reader.
Katherine Kroll
It's like a sweater basically
Luis F. Pantoja
oh! much better! thanks for the link, Emilie... I was getting tired with the scrolling :-)
Brandon: hopefully you were just busy with good stuff
Keri Bas
wow. is linen yarn harder to handle?
Debbie Tlach
Oooh post a photo when you're done! :) I love to knit also!
Corné Mac Kenzie
I get you Angela - same for me too!
Luis F. Pantoja
and I love pictures in general :-)
Philip James
Is the custard thing about non-newtonian fluids?
Katherine Kroll
It's got less elasticity than wool so it's definitely easier to spot the imperfections. Also this particular yarn is a ribbon structure so I keep having to untwist it which is a bit time consuming.
Natasha Smith
Knitting discussion reminds me of this article:http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/technology/2011/07/a_tightknit_community.html
Keri Bas
is there a crafty corner on the forums for project photos?
Angela Rodriguez
I want to learn how to knit. I have a kit of both knitting and crochet needles I have yet to touch.
Brandon Black
Busy dropping out of school, playing games, getting a job. Had to go through my cycle to spin back up :)
Angela Rodriguez
Oh that would be a great idea, Keri.
Me
@Philip! Non-newtonian fluids is something I learned about from Neil. I'll let him answer your question, but i'm guessing that's a yes.
Natasha Smith
My knitting game is weak. Need to get back into it! I never learned anything cool like circular stuff or fancy stitches
Neil Hughes
it is, philip :) i relate the idea of non-newtonian fluids to our mental habits and the feeling of anxiety
Keri Bas
oh man, I did not get along well with knitting. did not take.
Katherine Kroll
Also if anyone wants to be friends on ravelry, let me know :) I try and post all my project photos there
Natasha Smith
Brandon: what games?
Neil Hughes
if not, keri, there should be!
Jens Reineking
@Brandon: what games? what work? If you don't mind me asking.
Angela Rodriguez
Has anyone heard of meetup.com?
Debbie Tlach
I love circular knitting!
Keri Bas
I may need to pick it up, though, or crochet - so much of what I want to do with textiles involves weaving
Philip James
ok, then, thats worth a read
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hey Brandon - just busy writing about the cycles of change in adult life ...
Natasha Smith
Angela, yep, I've used meetup!
Keri Bas
... and unraveling
Me
@Keri there isn't one specifically, but you can upload a photo to your profile, and it'll show up at the bottom of the front page of the Tribe. All recent photos turn up there.
Philip James
i signed up to meetup but I never metup
Keri Bas
hey, that's cool, I didn't know that, Emilie!
[Keri's profile explodes with photos]
Natasha Smith
Meetup was better before they started charging organizers. Gotten very sparse since.
Me
Heheh
Corné Mac Kenzie
Angela: I've met some cool people via Meetup in Cape Town
Luis F. Pantoja
[ducks, just in case keri's profile exploding throws sharpnel!]
Debbie Tlach
I have a meetup this week for some Archery! :)
Natasha Smith
Debbie that sounds so fun!!!
I haven't done archery since I was like 10
Neil Hughes
@philip very cool. it's not heavy on the science, because it's intended as a general-interest humorous exploration of anxiety. but i do touch on it a few times, and try to explain anxiety management as clearly as i can too
Luis F. Pantoja
nice, Debbie! Archery is in my to-do-list :-)
Neil Hughes
i suck at archery. i scored all browns (the floor).
Brandon Black
Jumped into Everquest for a month, help some friends ramp up a Guild on a new server. Ark, Beyond Eyes, The Flame in the Flood.
Luis F. Pantoja
Natasha: now I envy you :-P
Debbie Tlach
Can't wait Natasha! I have done some over the years. This is a 2hr class!
Philip James
i joined meetup to find some karaoke to go to but it's all miles away.
Luis F. Pantoja
(the good kind of envy ;-) )
Debbie Tlach
:)
Natasha Smith
luis: haha for what?
Philip James
@neil I'm going to have to read this
Keri Bas
I run a meetup that's really successful, but there were years when it was me and a friend sitting alone. :)
Angela Rodriguez
I got into a group back in July last year called Spiritual Junkies. Positive thinking, higher power/source, universe, meditiation...It's been amazing!
Luis F. Pantoja
natasha: for learning archery when you were 10 :-)
Brandon Black
Finally got to play Stick of Truth since xbox launched backwards compatibility.
Tom Franov
I've had really good look with meetup groups in NYC and WestchesterCounty
Angela Rodriguez
I've been wanting to learn archery
Heather Matinde
@neil Hughes your Texx talk sounds awesome!
Tom Franov
meant luck
Philip James
I went off archery after I read we need to talk about kevin
Natasha Smith
Luis: I only did it once or twice. Totally would love to legit learn though. I mostly remember it hurting my hands!
Debbie Tlach
It's fun Angela!
Luis F. Pantoja
LOL Phillip
Natasha: well, that's more than I can say... so, my comment stands :-)
Katherine Kroll
For those who don't use meetup, is there any other way you find groups and classes in your area?
Ive browsed meetup before, but became a bit overwhelmed
Heather Matinde
I love archery! A friend of mine is an Olympic and the taught my family the basics in his backyard.
Me
Hey, do you guys have any tips for those periods of time when you have a ton of deadlines at once? Either organizational or mindset/stress reducing tips would be awesome. I've got to prepare (and give) two talks and send two chapters to my editor in the next 3 weeks! Ahh
Luis F. Pantoja
Katherine: have you tried looking up groups on Facebook?
nice, Heather! now I envy you too :-P hehehehe
Me
(This seemed like a good place to ask. :) )
Keri Bas
I use museums and art leagues to find workshops and classes.
Neil Hughes
@heather, thanks! it should be online soon, can't wait for you to see it!
Angela Rodriguez
Today I'm going to one for crystal bowl sound meditation
Philip James
@Emilie I just let those deadlines sail by and wait to see who seems the most annoyed
Luis F. Pantoja
whoa!! good luck, Emilie, that's some pressure
Tom Franov
you can use linkedin to find business related groups of interest, and sometimes they promote meetup type events
Katherine Kroll
I've become very passive with my facebook in recent years, so not really. I didn't realize it was still popular to organize groups and stuff.
Me
lol Philip
Brandon Black
What have you been up to Jens?
Corné Mac Kenzie
I have a local continuing adult education group at the high school in my area, Katherine. I run workshops there and meet great people.
Keri Bas
Emilie: regular meditation, and Pomodoro timers.
Me
Thanks, Luis.
Debbie Tlach
http://www.soundstrue.com/store/neurosculpting-for-stress-relief-5854.html @Emilie
Tom Franov
I just started meditiation this past month, I love it
Natasha Smith
Oh man Emilie I need advice on that too
Philip James
meditation is good
Neil Hughes
re deadlines: if possible, reschedule to relieve pressure if it's overwhelming. if not, break up the tasks and schedule blocks to do each sub task. this mostly works for me...
Me
Keri: yeah, those are great tools. Meditation is tough to maintain when you have a lot to do though.. But it's also the time when you most need it.
Luis F. Pantoja
Emilie: I recently found this, and have found it quite helpful:http://markforster.squarespace.com/autofocus-system/
Tom Franov
True Emilie
Heather Matinde
@ Emilie I like Philips method but learning to take tiny mini breaks to breath as often as possible works for me. So does get out in nature and putting my feet in the grass.
Neil Hughes
@valerie, I wish that orange was real :(
Luis F. Pantoja
Emilie: if you scroll down that page and watch the video, you'll see a good overview of the system. It will help you decide if it would be worth a try for you
Natasha Smith
Luis, that looks interesting!
Jens Reineking
@Brandon Trying to get my life in (more) order. Started writing on medium.com. Decided to stay for a while longer in my home village, but get my own place.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Emilie: My take is to focus on priorities relative to what you value most.
Philip James
@Emilie, thats what meditators will tell you for sure. "I am so busy at the moment, I have to meditate twice as long."
Me
Yup yup! Thanks!
Luis F. Pantoja
and thanks again for that, Jens! (the autofocus system page) :-)
Neil Hughes
i like it luis. I might try that this week.
Tom Franov
I feel so refreshed after meditating, like a new person
Luis F. Pantoja
it is, Natasha
Jens Reineking
:-)
Me
I'll check that out, Luis. Looks really cool
Neil Hughes
ah, it's a Jens discovery! he is good for that.
Glen Matthes
Does hot tub meditation count?
Keri Bas
making time for meditation is the hard bit - my goal is 20 min twice a day, per instructions. I'm lucky to get in one. but it makes SUCH a difference
Natasha Smith
I think when I have a lot of deadlines I try to prioritize where I need to do my BEST work and where I'll feel fine just getting something done. Not everything can be a top priority.
Jens Reineking
Again: :-)
Natasha Smith
Haha I guess I just repeated Corné
Neil Hughes
@glen, i think you make the rules for what counts. if i had a hot tub, it would count double!
Me
The Headspace app has really helped me with meditation
Jens Reineking
@Tom Sorry, missed the beginning. How long do you meditate? And since when?
Brandon Black
@Jens I read one of your articles this morning on One Thought per line. Looks to be an interesting site.
Keri Bas
I find early morning first thing after my ablutions is my most reliable meditation moment. :)
Me
https://www.headspace.com/
Philip James
Headspace app?
Me
It's awesome
Philip James
checking it out
Natasha Smith
Another awesome meditation app: http://stopbreathethink.org/
Heather Matinde
The headspace app looks interesting.
Jens Reineking
The only problem I have with headpace is that it seems to be focused on focused meditation pretty much only.
And I'm more of open monitoring mediation kind of guy.
Luis F. Pantoja
Natasha: I keep trying to call you just "Nats", since I had a friend here who went by that nickname...
Debbie Tlach
I have sooooo many tabs open... Lol!
Luis F. Pantoja
Natasha: how to friends call you?
Katherine Kroll
I've used an app called insight timer that's pretty good. Has guided meditations but also just a timer with gongs and stuff to signal time.
Me
@Debbie #multipotentialiteproblems lol
Keri Bas
yeah, that's mindfulness practice which I don't benefit as much from.
Corné Mac Kenzie
I think meditation is portable and relative to one's state of interiority.
Natasha Smith
Luis: lol!! Tasha works as a nickname
Keri Bas
I really like TM. It's made a world of difference to my stress levels.
Luis F. Pantoja
Natasha: (and I mean by name, not if they use the phone or whatsapp :-P )
Jens Reineking
But headspace is good for what it does. Definitely give it a try.
Debbie Tlach
Yep Emilie!!!!!! All the time!
Me
I just like being guided through my meditations by a friendly British cartoon named Andy (I know he's not really a cartoon)
Luis F. Pantoja
indeed, Emilie! :-D Debbie is in the right place :-)
Philip James
Here's a question - do multipotentialites generally have more tabs open than specialists?
Luis F. Pantoja
cool, Tash
Natasha Smith
Hahaha Philip probably yes
Neil Hughes
@emilie, er, what?
Katherine Kroll
My tab behavior drives my specialist husband crazy, lol
Luis F. Pantoja
(it even rolls well while typing it)
Me
@neil headspace.com !
Neil Hughes
ohh
Keri Bas
or an overflowing Reading List of saved sites...
Neil Hughes
does anyone else regret not buying cake when they were passing the shop this afternoon?
Me
I do think having many tabs open is a major indicator that one is a multipod
Glen Matthes
@Philip - not sure you can generalize that.
Tom Franov
I always have a million tabs open
Me
(but that's just observational)
Tom Franov
always something I want to go back to to learn more about
Natasha Smith
I save a bazillion articles to "read later" and never get to them
Luis F. Pantoja
oh, guys! I had a win this week! for the first time ever, I actually closed several browser windows after reading all the tabs in them! woohoo!
Philip James
it drives me crazy because it slows my computer down to the point where I have
to closte everything and restart
Neil Hughes
i go through bursts of opening/closing tabs. i get stressed if i have too many open.
Luis F. Pantoja
(the system I shared above helped me with that :-) )
Natasha Smith
You can "save all in tabs"
Tom Franov
at school we used to call it the "parking lot"
Keri Bas
that's why I like teh Reading List, Philip. wherever you save it.
Natasha Smith
*"save all tabs" i mean
Philip James
im proud to say I didnt buy cake
Tom Franov
stuff we had wanted to get back to
Jens Reineking
There's Chrome app "TooManyTabs" where you can temporarily store tabs to
clean up the browser.
Luis F. Pantoja
:-D hahahaha! I would love to meet the author of that app! :-D
Jens Reineking
But guess what? My "TooManyTabs" list has about 30 stored now :-/
Angela Rodriguez
Millions of tabs going on over here too!
Luis F. Pantoja
Oops
Debbie Tlach
My brain wants to download it all, like in the Matrix!
Philip James
Another app???
Angela Rodriguez
I have to admit my mind is racing with all of this info and trying to keep up on the chat.
Neil Hughes
i use an app to manage my tab-closing apps
Jens Reineking
Chrome addon/extension
Keri Bas
for me it's not just tabs but also browsers. I could have as many as four open at any given time.
Luis F. Pantoja
yeah, keeping up is hard, Angela... I'm struggling myself
Tom Franov
Debbie, I wsih we could download it too
Philip James
@Neil lol
Natasha Smith
Browser windows or different browsers?
Corné Mac Kenzie
I agree, Angela.
Brandon Black
I treat tabs like humans. Meet them once and learn something interesting. If a deeper connection is useful they will cross my path again in the future.
Luis F. Pantoja
(and I consider myself a veteran chatter! :-) )
Debbie Tlach
Yay Tom!
Angela Rodriguez
Emilie, will there be a transcript of this chat to refer back to after it's over?
Me
Angela, do you have the big chat room open?http://theputtytribe.com/chat/
Natasha Smith
Brandon: love that. hahaha
Keri Bas
Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE. (I build websites, hazard of the trade)
Me
(it helps a little)
Philip James
2 browsers, 3 windows each, 4-7 tabs
Luis F. Pantoja
nice concept, Brandon
Philip James
would be normal
Natasha Smith
Whoa. That would slow my computer down to a crawl
Neil Hughes
i treat tabs like humans. open them up, extract what's inside, and then never speak to them again
Jens Reineking
Just two: Firefox for work (moodle, vimeo, etc), Chrome for research and private stuff.
Corné Mac Kenzie
I like your approach to tabs. Brandon.
Me
Angela, I can certainly create a transcript of this chat.
Angela Rodriguez
The blossoms on the orange tree in my backyard smell AMAZING!
Luis F. Pantoja
LOL Neil!
Glen Matthes
@Neil - lol
Corné Mac Kenzie
I also use Firefox & Chrome
Brandon Black
Exactly Neil
Keri Bas
that's beautiful, Neil
Me
Haha
Keri Bas
Angela, I want to come visit. :)
Jens Reineking
Now I feel slightly dirty. Neil.
Tom Franov
Angela, you are so luck to have an orange tree!
Philip James
I treat humans like tabs, leave them hanging around for days, then wonder what I saw in them
Luis F. Pantoja
Angela: keep it up, and you'll have a gang of multipods arriving at your doorstep :-)
Angela Rodriguez
A transcript would be wonderful, Emilie. :) Thank you!
Corné Mac Kenzie
I only have an orange jasmine, but used to harvest orange blossom honey from my bees, Angela - wish I was there!
Neil Hughes
@philip :D :D
Natasha Smith
@Philip hahaha
Me
Will do, Angela!
Luis F. Pantoja
LOL Phillip
Jens Reineking
:-) Philip
Neil Hughes
orange blossom smells so good
Luis F. Pantoja
uh oh... so, there will be evidence of what I said here?!? :-O
Debbie Tlach
We should do this more Emilie! Fun!
Kallisti
whoops, just got here ... better late than never! lol
Me
haha Luis
Natasha Smith
hi kallisti, welcome!
Jens Reineking
What happens in the chat, stays in the chat. ;-)
Luis F. Pantoja
I hope so, Jens, hehehehe
Debbie Tlach
Lol! Jens! Better than posting drunken photos on Facebook!
Doug Walker
@Emilie - I keep a list of all the tasks involved. Seeing the whole list reduces some anxiety. I prioritize anything that needs someone else's input, attention, etc. Keep the ball in other people's court whenever possible. Sorry, lurking. I don't type quickly, obviously.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Hi Kallisti!
Angela Rodriguez
You are all welcome anytime you are in Orlando
Brandon Black
You guys have that saying too Jens, is there a Vegas like city in Germany?
Me
Yeah, Debbie! I agree. We used to do these every week when we first started the Tribe, and after a few months, the numbers had really dwindled... But I think that if we have a mixer oncer per month or something, that might work.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Thanks Angela :)
Heather Matinde
@doug I am into the list thing too.
Debbie Tlach
Cool Emilie!
Me
Those are good tips, Doug. Thanks!
Angela Rodriguez
Plus, I could use some help with the garden beds, I have 5
LOL
Jens Reineking
@Brandon: I watch a _lot_ of US entertainment.
Me
Hi Kallisti!
Luis F. Pantoja
What do you guys think of a "mixer huddle"? something like this, but over GH (I've been pondering whether to start one or not)
Neil Hughes
i will happily help in the garden in return for a visit to Orlando, Angela
:D
Philip James
i have to get GH working
Luis F. Pantoja
for one thing, it would avoid the motion sickness I'm starting to get with this chat window :-&
Kallisti
hi everybody, looks like i missed quite a lot of the discussion
Luis F. Pantoja
:-)
Me
To all the newcomers, full chat room makes it (slightly) easier to keep track of what's going on: http://theputtytribe.com/chat/
Natasha Smith
Anyone have travel plans this summer?
Neil Hughes
i'm going to PORTLAND
Brandon Black
Did they increase the GH cap yet? or still 10?
Me
YOU ARE?! (Neil)
Debbie Tlach
My multipod self is loving all the discussions going on at once! lol!
Neil Hughes
(and possibly a grand tour of the US)
Luis F. Pantoja
nice, Neil!
Natasha Smith
@Neil that sounds awesome! I haven't been since I was a kid and I only remember the giant bookstore.
Neil Hughes
lol emilie, you know this :D
Me
lol I didn't know it was confirmed confirmed
Luis F. Pantoja
Brandon: nope, that's the downside :-(
Jens Reineking
@Neil. Very cool. And slightly envious.
Glen Matthes
giant bookstore?
Me
Powells
Debbie Tlach
Portland Vegan food! Yum!
Brandon Black
Xbox just increased their party size to 16 from 8. You would think Google could get with the program of more than 10 wanting to Video
Natasha Smith
grand tour!!! yes! where else do you want to go?
Angela Rodriguez
@Doug or any other list maker, would you be willing to share that list?
Glen Matthes
that's like a venus fly trap for me
Neil Hughes
it's pretty well confirmed. no flights yet, but it'll happen.
Kallisti
yay Powell's, certainly worth going to
Me
Awesome. :)
Natasha Smith
I've got my 5-year college reunion coming up in Amherst, MA.
Jens Reineking
Grrmpf. I need to get my %&!# together, I want to be able to travel again. :-(
Natasha Smith
Also want to go to San Francisco, but I'm not sure when exactly.
Corné Mac Kenzie
I've only ever been to Finland. What's Portland like?
Luis F. Pantoja
same thoughts here, Jens :-D
Me
http://www.powells.com/ = biggest independant bookstore in the US (i think?) Very overwhelming and amazing.
Neil Hughes
@natasha i want to go everywhere! if finances are good I'll make it a several-month trip and drive/fly all over the US
but if not, i may just head to cali and boston on the way home
Philip James
Portland is just like Finland, Corne
Natasha Smith
Oh man. I've always wanted to do a road trip from Vancouver, BC all the way down the West Coast to Baja California.
Corné Mac Kenzie
So... no good honey there?
Neil Hughes
me too¬!
Me
SO MUCH GOOD HONEY, Corné
Luis F. Pantoja
that would be fun, Tash!
Angela Rodriguez
A Putty Tribe conference/meetup/retreat would be great to have. Has that ever happened before? I know that we're all over the world but still it could happen. I love party planning!
Debbie Tlach
I need to go back t o Australia!
Philip James
what kind of honey are you looking for Corne?
Corné Mac Kenzie
What types of honey Emilie? Local farmers?
Natasha Smith
@Debbie I want to go there toooo! Never been. I was in Singapore a couple months ago so met some awesome Aussies there
Neil Hughes
we have regularish meetups in the UK, angela, and last year there was an official retreat. i'm sure there'll be more of both in future :)
Brandon Black
Putty retreat this year is in EU if im not mistaken
Luis F. Pantoja
Nice, Tash! is Singapore weather as horrible as I've heard?
Me
Corné, yeah, local. It's big out here.
Neil Hughes
technically the UK may no longer be in the EU in three months
Debbie Tlach
I loved it there Natasha! I got to hold a koala & he fell asleep in my arms!!
Natasha Smith
@Neil keep us updated on road trip plans! I drove from Tucson to MN then on to Ohio last summer. Also drove to MN and back over spring break, but got in an accident so I won't be road-tripping with my Camry again for a while...
Tom Franov
I want to go to the island of Ibiza Spain
Philip James
@neil Is there a meetup planned?
Jens Reineking
Big dream: Visiting Comicon, meeting a lot of internet friends.
Corné Mac Kenzie
Philip, only locally produced, natural honey will do for me - the type where the farmer can tell you its origin.
Natasha Smith
@Luis: I loved the weather there! Rainy and hot and beautiful as hell.
Tom Franov
but no vacations planned this year
Brandon Black
Anyone having AOL flashbacks being here?
Neil Hughes
@philip - we had one pencilled in, but we're due another. should resurrect the thread on the UK forum - will do that this week
Natasha Smith
@Debbie omg koala!! Yeah I went to the night zoo, so awesome.
Jens Reineking
@Neil: Personally, I hope you stay in the EU.
Neil Hughes
@brandon not AOL, but so many 90s chatroom flashbacks :)
Brandon Black
there were other chatrooms in the 90s?
Neil Hughes
@jens... don't get me started! it's embarrassing we're even having the vote.
Luis F. Pantoja
Nice to hear... then again, when I typed my question I realized it depends a lot on whether someone prefers hot or cold weather
Keri Bas
Jens, I cosplayed at NYCC a couple of years ago with an internet friend and it was awesome. definitely worth a trip. :)
Debbie Tlach
I'll post the photo of me holding him. :) Ahhhh! My happy place! lol!
Neil Hughes
i think most of the world didn't use America Online
Brandon Black
i guess IRC
Jens Reineking
Never used AOL.
Philip James
@neil, @jens with you
Natasha Smith
@Luis: Yeah, I don't get to go to beaches often so I fucking loved it
Corné Mac Kenzie
Cool to know Emilie - what's your favourite honey? Here in CT we have a Fynbos honey from the Ericas - black and bitter.
Natasha Smith
hahaha AOL..oh man. I remember making art projects with all those CDs they'd send
Neil Hughes
@natasha i definitely will keep you updated! your trips sound amazing, would love to hear about them :) i want to drive coast-to-coast and stay in beautiful farmhouses in green valleys and things
where are you based natasha?
Jens Reineking
I hope we get through this. Might just be puberty - the new century ist just 16 years old after all.
Natasha Smith
I'm in Athens, OH. Basically WV.
Debbie Tlach
Me too Natasha! CD DIY!
Neil Hughes
ah nice
Philip James
I have long dreamt of taking my son on roadtrip in US
Neil Hughes
never been to the midwest
Natasha Smith
@Debbie Hahha yeah I thought I was really cool!
Angela Rodriguez
@Neil, nice! I'd love to start one in the U.S. too.
Luis F. Pantoja
I'm definitely having flashbacks... but of IRC and even BitNet! (this was before the Internet!) :-O
Tom Franov
I'd like to go to California
Philip James
IRC? impressed Luis
Natasha Smith
@Neil: Just don't come to the Midwest in the winter!
Jens Reineking
Never been to the US - and only a few work trips to the UK.
Keri Bas
Few people roadtrip to Houston. even though we're awesome.;)
Me
Corné, I'm not really a honey connoisseur, so I couldn't really tell you off the bat. I know what the jars look like of the local kinds I've tried, but that's about it... In general Portland is very green though. Lots of local produce of all varieties. It's also really in the culture.
Neil Hughes
IRC was the best
Luis F. Pantoja
It was fun, Phillip :-P
Natasha Smith
Happy first day of Spring to everyone in the northern hemisphere, btw!
Luis F. Pantoja
:-)
Jens Reineking
You guys give me Fernweh, pardon wanderlust.
Brandon Black
Halt and Catch Fire second season just came out on Netflix. They talk about Bitnet in there
Debbie Tlach
I loved London! I felt so at home there!
Neil Hughes
@natasha I won't! my plan is the US this summer, and somewhere hot this winter, finances permitting :)
Jens Reineking
London is nice, but sooooo busy.
Natasha Smith
I want to go to London and see theater!! So many incredible productions get done out there.
Philip James
yay Debbie, London is the place to be
Me
Last 3 minutes of the "official" mixer left! Though you guys are of course welcome to stick around.
Natasha Smith
@neil good plan :) I love Minneapolis in the summer, highly recommended.
Philip James
Natasha, you're not kidding
Luis F. Pantoja
I'll check if I can watch it, Brandon
Debbie Tlach
I was born in NY so it was exactly like home!
Neil Hughes
i lived in London for five years... was fun, but i'm glad to be out now :)
Corné Mac Kenzie
I like to hear that, Emilie - I think the bees are mostly invisible but integral to our survival.
Angela Rodriguez
Well, ya'll, I gotta get going and finish up my 6 or 7 things that I'm doing at once before I leave for my crystal bowl meditation meetup. This has been an amazing experience and I look forward to building my profile to see who I connect with. Thank you so much for the amazing chat!!! <3
Jens Reineking
Hm, I might some day move back to Berlin.
Neil Hughes
(i'm also going to go and eat some honey in a minute)
Me
Absolutely, Corné
Neil Hughes
thanks angela! chat soon :)
Natasha Smith
Yeah, I don't think I could live in a huge city long-term
Me
Bye Angela!
Philip James
I moved away for 5 years, it was terrible and I'm happy I cam back
Debbie Tlach
And oh the Indian food! I was in heaven! Lol!
Tom Franov
I found London to be completely different than the stereotypes, I loved it there
Natasha Smith
Bye Angela! Bye Neil!
Keri Bas
we had a little party on our porch when we saw a honeybee in our azaleas. but still only the one.
Luis F. Pantoja
it was good chatting, Angela!
and Neil
Natasha Smith
Gonna head out and get back to my play too :) Ttyl all!
Jens Reineking
Yes, so fried potatoes with some eggs over them for me :-)
Philip James

Angela Rodriguez

Neil Hughes

Corné Mac Kenzie
That's cool, Keri :) Bye Guys. Nice to "connect".
Philip James
I have a meeting scheduled with my new accountability buddy
Jens Reineking
Have a nice day/evening/morning you all!
Me
Bye everyone!! Thanks so much for coming out. This was great. I will definitely organize more of these.
Debbie Tlach
Have fun! This was Awesome everyone!!!
Luis F. Pantoja
definitely
Philip James
Emilie, can I say thank you for making this site and building this community
Jens Reineking
Yes - more!
Keri Bas
definitely a great time - looking forward to the next one!
Luis F. Pantoja
I have to head out as well... it was good to "see" you all!
Doug Walker
Thanks, Emilie. This was fun to read along!
Tom Franov
Nice hanging with you guys, I'll be at the intro thing on the 26.

Jens Reineking
Seconded and dito'ed!And don't forget to co-work! ;-)
