Decimals

To model a whole number times a decimal:

Example 3 x 0.2 =

This is 3 groups of 0.2 so shadein 3 groups of 2 tenths.

Example 3 x 0.2 =

Example 3 x 0.2 = 0.6

To model a whole number times a decimal when the answer is greater

than 1 Example 0.4 X 5

To Model decimal x decimal:

Example 0.3 x 0.5 =

First, shade in the first number vertically.

Example 0.3 x 0.5 =

Second, shade in the 2nd number horizontally.

Example 0.3 x 0.5 =

The area that has been shaded twice is the answer.

Example 0.3 x 0.5 = .15

You try it! 0.5 x 0.4
