3Morecambe Beer Festival 2012 |
Hello and welcome to the Winter Gardens for the second Morecambe
Beer Festival. For those of you who did not make
it to last year’s bash, feast your eyes on this wonderful Victorian music hall; what a backdrop to a mouth watering selection of beers and ciders! For those returning to the venue, you will notice the improvements that the ‘Friends’ have made to make the event even better.
With 54 beers listed (and possibly one or two more unlisted) and ten ciders/perries there should be something to tantalise your taste buds. There’s just about every cask style on offer, from the low ABV BBC2 from Brentwood to the terrifyingly strong Thomas Sykes from Burton Bridge. There are ales brewed from lager malts and hops, rich dark stouts, golden ales and a host of speciality beers with a range of fl avourings to satisfy the most inquisitive imbibers.
Our entertainment consists of a couple of bands who will provide music to drink to. They come well recommended and will add to your enjoyment.
There are a host of people and companies who have given us invaluable
assistance. All the Lunesdale Brewers (Cross Bay, Lancaster, Old School and Kirkby Lonsdale) have been a great help to us. If you’ve come from afar, make sure you take back the memory of their fi ne beers. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the local CAMRA branches, particularly the Furness branch who have supplied the cooling equipment. Then there are the local cask ale pubs, 14 of them within 10 minutes stagger from the festival. If you fancy an evening’s drinking, consider sampling Morecambe’s delights.
We’ve also been supported by a few sponsors who appear on a notice board in the hall. Please support them as they have supported us. In particular, Cross Bay and Morecambe Bay Wines have provided us with logistical support and beer. Then there’s Mitchells, Lancaster Rubber, Travis Perkins, Londis Store Bare, and many, many more. Sorry to all I’ve missed out.
That’s enough from me. You’re here for the beer, not to read this.
Enjoy yourself, see you next year.
Cheers,George Palmer, Festival coordinator

Last year was a strange one to say the least. The appalling weather had a disastrous effect on the fruit crops in many areas. The consequence of this is that many cider
producers are running low on stocks and the list below may well have to be revised.
Whatever happens, there will be a good variety of ciders and perries.
