The Conlan Dinner Party.The Sunday-school teachers of St. Francis

Church were tendered a dinner party recentlyby the pastor. Rev. Father Conlan, at the DayHome on Powell street. The dinner was servedin the dining ball, which bad been profuselydecorated with ferns and sweet peas. Afterme dinner a short and interesting programmewas presented. Father Conlan, in a few well-chosen remarks, thanked the young ladies fortheir assistance duilng the past year and ex-pressed the hope that their next reunion wouldfind them in as good health and spirits as theywere then.

ENTERTAINMENTS.The Western Addition Literary and Social

Club held Iss monthly entertainment at OddFellows' Hall last Wednesday evening, and, ifone may judge by tbe appearance of the bouse,there was uoi even standing room. The dramasthat have heretofore been presented were tem-porarily shelved, and a minstrel entertainmentsubstituted. Itwas a new Idea to introduceminstrels in the club, and It seemed very bardfor ibe audience to get used to It. The firstpart rather surprised the audience, as they didnot anticipate anything so clever and enter-taining.

The company was so excellent that the audi-ence did not hesitate to applaud its dialoguesand gaps as the occasion called for. EugeneBeauce, who shook the bones, is one of thecleverest amateur minstrels InSan Francisco,aud was ably seconded by Thomas Eggert. whowhirled tlie tambourine. One of the featuresof the evening was a Chinese orchestra, whichwas specially engaged and appeared undrr thepersonal supervision of E. J. Cater. The after-piece, a negro farce entitled •'What shall 1Take?" proved very entertaining.

Next month, however, they will be back totheir regular style of programme; and itIsrumored about the club that George Muliiuwillmake his first appeaiance Inanew farce. Theclub members, as well as his friends, wish himsuccess.
