A New Year!
Your child has reached the end of his or her primary education and is embarking on new challenges in fourth grade.
Because of differing maturation rates, it may take some time for students to make adjustments. Fourth grade may be difficult for some students (and parents) regardless of previous academic or social performance.
We will work as a team to ensure your child makes this transition to the intermediate level.

AttendanceSchool begins at 8:15 a.m.
● Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. must check in at the office and will be marked tardy unless the delay is excusable.
● Whenever possible, please schedule appointments after school hours.
● Be sure to either call the office, email the teacher, leave a voice mail, or send a note when a student is absent.
Behavioral Expectations• Students are expected to respect
themselves, others, and property.• Students are expected to put forth
their best effort producing work showing pride in their accomplishments.
• Student choices are supported with consequences, positive and negative.
Positive consequences include verbal or written praise, special privileges, notes, e-mails, or calls home
Negative consequences include verbal reminders, loss of privileges, removal from activities, calls or notes home, referral to the principal

Writing – Is embedded in the Lead 21 CurriculumFocus will be utilizing the stages of the writing process

Math Curriculum
• Text – Scott Foresman Supplemented by manipulatives and
ongoing activities providing practice of the standard
skills, as well as integration of math with other
curricular areas, including technology
www.pearsonsuccess.net will be used in the computer lab and can be used at home for additional math practice. Student textbook is found online here.
Once up and running, Accelerated math will be used to supplement and enrich student’s mathematical knowledge on Friday afternoons
Social StudiesMontana and Regions of the United States
In 4th grade, students will focus on the U.S. regions, the rights of a U. S. citizen and the beginnings of Montana as a state. Students will be able to answer these key questions by the end of the school year:
• What are the major regions of the U. S. and their characteristics?
• What are the responsibilities of a U. S. citizen?
• What are the characteristics of the federal, state and tribal governments?
• What are the major events that led to Montana statehood?
• How did Montana statehood affect Montana’s Indians?
• How are various types of maps used as a tool to gather information focusing on major regions of

• United States and Montana? (Focus on types of maps, hemispheres, latitude and longitude)

Inquiry-based science will be developed through the Scientific Process. Students will also develop critical thinking skills and learn to take notes, observe, explore, and experiment.
Homework• Should be written in the
assignment notebook every day

multiplication/division facts– Drops in the Bucket Math

Grading
Corrections can be made, by student choice, on work that is less than 70% within the week. The two grades will be averaged together. TESTS cannot be retaken.
