The UAB Early Medical School Acceptance Program (EMSAP) is designed to give exceptionalhigh school graduates an opportunity to take advantage of the best resources of theundergraduate and medical programs through a mentored relationship with faculty. There are four distinctive programs available that require a stated interest at the time of thesecondary application. The four programs are the UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program (JMP),the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), the Program in Medical Education for theUrban Underserved (PRIME-US), and the San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education(SJV PRIME). The UCB-UCSF Joint Medical Program is a five-year program leading to agraduate degree from UC Berkeley and an MD degree from UCSF. The MSTP is a combinedMD/PhD program that prepares students for careers as physician-scientists. PRIME-US is afive-year program for medical students interested in devoting their careers to serving urbanunderserved populations and/or conducting research focused on the health of urbanunderserved communities. Students in period three of medical study may apply to the MBA, MPH or Master of Science inHealth Informatics and Analytics (MSHIA) programs. Combined degree students complete thefirst 3 years of coursework in the MD degree program. At the beginning of the 4th period ofstudy, students admitted to another degree pause their medical studies and begin classes inthe MBA, MPH or MSHIA program. Classes in the MBA program are taken during fall andspring semesters of the medical student’s fourth year of study (33 credit hours) as well as thesummer for the MPH and MSHIA programs (36 and 27 credits respectively). Nine creditstaken through HWCOM are applied toward the 42 credits required for the MBA degree,toward the 45 credits for the MPH and 10 credits toward the 37 credit MSHIA program. At thebeginning of the 5th year, students resume study as part of the MD degree program andthose who successfully complete all requirements graduate with a combined degree at theend of the 5 years.

The MED DIRECT Program works in partnership with FAU’s College of Medicine and createsspecial opportunities for undergraduates who demonstrate a strong interest in medicine, ahigh level of academic ability, a passion for service and commitment to volunteerism.

The Wilkes Medical Scholars Program is a highly selective, early admission program into TheCharles E. Schmidt College of Medicine for students who have a strong desire to pursue acareer in medicine. Students select from twenty-seven academic concentrations and receiveeither a B.A. or a B.S. in Liberal Arts and Sciences, from the Wilkes Honors College in Jupiterand the M.D. degree from FAU's College of Medicine in Boca Raton in seven or eight years.

This partnership with FAMU is an 8-year Bachelor of Science-Medical Doctor dual-degreeprogram for outstanding high school seniors who have made an early and informed decisionto become a physician.

A medical student’s journey begins as soon as they enter the UMKC School of Medicine’sB.A./M.D. program. Immediate exposure to a curriculum that builds a strong foundation inmedical science and clinical skills is integrated with the liberal arts and humanities into a year-round program. Our program allows students to choose an undergraduate major and earntheir B.A. and M.D. in six years.

During the first two years of the program, three-fourths of a student’s time is dedicated to thearts and sciences to fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements, while one-fourth is spent inmedical school coursework. In the final four years of the program, the majority of the student’stime is spent in medical school coursework with a smaller percentage of time spentcompleting baccalaureate degree requirements.

The intent of the program is to provide studentswith an integrated and cohesive training experience while obtaining the MD/PhD degree.Students participate in activities common to both programs while involved in the medicalschool curriculum or engaged in PhD dissertation research.

The program consists of 2 years of the medical school curriculum followed by 3-4 years ofgraduate courses and PhD dissertation research, and concludes with the remaining 2 yearsof the medical school curriculum. The PhD and MD degrees are awarded simultaneously atthe end of the entire training period. Students can pursue many lines of research activityperformed by investigators in biomedical research in the School of Medicine.

The MD/PhD program provides training for individuals with strong clinical and basic scienceinterests for research careers in academic medicine. The dual degree program consists offour years of medical school and a minimum of three years of graduate study (which occursbetween the preclinical and clinical curricula) including dissertation research in an area ofbasic biomedical science leading to a PhD degree. The Penn State-Jefferson Premedical-Medical Program (PMM), begun in 1963, is a sevenyear combined degree program with three years of undergraduate study at Penn State (maincampus) and four years at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. The Penn State B.S. degree isawarded after the first year of medical school and the Jefferson M.D. is awarded after yearfour of medical school. Students with a total score of 1470 or higher on the new SAT (Mathplus Evidence Based Reading and Writing), 1420 on the old SAT (prior to 2016 - CriticalReading and Math sections) or a composite score of 32 or higher on the ACT can beconsidered for this program. The Medical Scholars Program provides an opportunity for exceptionally qualified high schoolseniors to gain a provisional acceptance to LKSOM upon completion of their undergraduatedegree. LKSOM offers this combined degree with Washington & Jefferson College inWashington, PA. Applicants to the BA/MD program must first be accepted to Washington &Jefferson College. Candidates who meet specific academic criteria are recommended to theSchool of Medicine for an interview.

Students with a strong academic background who have completed a variety of AP courseworkand demonstrated exceptional standardized test performance are eligible for the Program. Aminimum combined SAT score of 1350, with no individual section less than 600 or a minimumACT composite score of 31 is required. The MD/MA in Urban Bioethics Program is a unique opportunity for LKSOM students toengage in a program focused on health equity in clinical care, research, and policy. Offeredthrough Temple’s Center for Urban Bioethics, this interdisciplinary program prepares studentsto better understand and address the ethical challenges experienced in urban communitieswhere density, diversity, and disparity contribute to health inequities. Coursework is groundedin theoretical and analytic bioethics as well as in methodological tools for communityengagement. The intent of the Meharry SOM’s BS/MD Program is to develop a student with excellentacademic credentials, competitive MCAT scores, and the personal, professional, leadership,and psychological attributes to be highly competitive for medical school admission andprovide a foundation for training to be a great physician. This option provides students who are matched to attend thePLFSOM with the opportunity to consider this M.D./M.P.H. track.
