Unicast Multicast

IP Multicast• Multicast can be used for both video conferencing and

video streaming• VLC, Windows media & Real player all support IP

multicast• Multicast is particularly useful for high bandwidth

streams which would saturate a link using unicast• HEAnet planning to provide future streaming events &

terrestrial streaming via both multicast and unicast• BBC streams currently available via multicast
