Introduction to the Unit The aim of this unit is to develop knowledge and

skills in the use of music technology in performance contexts.

You will perform using technology, work with related art forms and investigate the historical

development of the technology and techniques

used.

AssignmentsThere are two assignments:

A musical performance that includes technology

A music technology blog

Initial thoughts Create a diagram of one way in which

you have seen technology used in musical performance.

New ways to use tech As a group list ways in which music

technology could be used in musical performances.

Roger Lyons – Kaiser Chiefs

MIDI in Performances Roger Lyons – Keyboard Tech for Kaiser

Chiefs for Nick ‘Peanut’ Baines Used to use audio keyboards Switched to MIDI controllers (keyboards)

and two Macbook pro’s to be able to use pre-set keyboard sounds and settings, as used on the album.

Roger Lyons- How it works? Roger used a program called Mainstage He was able to have each song

programmed in a list, allowing him to switch to each song during their performance.

Patches can be created and saved This enables Lyons to re-call the sounds

from the album, and make the live show sound
