Week 6 Term 2, 2018
MUSWELLBROOK SHIRE COUNCIL Last Thursday Ella, Rylan, Riley, Sasha, Mrs Brown and Mrs Druitt attended the annual Aboriginal flag raising ceremony as part of National Reconciliation Week. During the visit, students were personally welcomed by Mayor Martin Rush, who was presented with an invitation to our NAIDOC week celebrations. Students also met Councillor Jacinta Ledlin, spokesperson for Aboriginal Reconciliation who was interested to hear about upcoming events at Denman Public School. Councillor Ledlin presented students with multiple copies of ‘wannin thanbarran’ – A History of Aboriginal Contact in Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter Valley. This is a fantastic resource that students will now use in Literacy activities to research local Aboriginal history. Thank you to the Muswellbrook Shire Council Reconciliation Committee for inviting Denman Public School to participate in this special ceremony. DPS NAIDOC celebrations will be held in Week 1, Term 3. We welcome the Denman community to join us for a day of celebrations including aboriginal cultural activities, a performance by our aboriginal dancers and a BBQ lunch. During our NAIDOC week celebrations all students will participate in a science show with an indigenous perspective, and a workshop with Dion Drummond, renowned aboriginal dancer, singer and storyteller.

This Thursday and Friday, Mrs Fuiono and Mrs Druitt will be attending the Positive Schools 2018 conference in Sydney. This conference will provide an interactive, in-depth exploration of mental health and wellbeing, programs and strategies to support all members of our DPS community.
