MVS Storage (MVSS) Project

3

Our Purpose

• The MVSS project focuses on the management of storage resources

throughout the enterprise and the facilities necessary to provide these

functions.

• In z/OS environments, DFSMS and all of the DFSMS components,

Tivoli Storage Management products, and other vendor-developed

(OEM) packages for providing these services are discussed.

• Among the many subjects covered are disaster recovery, data storage

devices, data backup and archival systems and data integrity and

recovery.

• We work closely with the SAN/Disk/Tape project to address topics

related to storage hardware supported by z/OS, Storage Area

Networks, storage interfaces, and other storage hardware and

software issues.

• The primary activities of the project include

– Sponsoring quality IBM, OEM, and user experience presentations at major

SHAREs

– Requirements generation and prioritization

– Customer driven task forces and discussions that influence IBM regarding

future storage management directions

Join our Tribe

• SHARE is a Volunteer organization

• Volunteer to CHAIR a session– You get the best seat in the house

• Talk to one of the project leaders if you’re interested

• Submit a topic for a presentation– Call for Presentations for San Antonio is now open.

– If you don’t feel you can talk for an hour, submit the session anyway. • We may be able to find someone (other user, possibly a Vendor) that can also add some discussion on the same topic.

• User presentations / experiences are ALWAYS welcome and normally carry more weight then vendor presentations.– For San Antonio, new speakers presenting user experience will get complimentary week pass for SHARE.

– Contact Barb McDonald (bawhite@us.ibm.com) if you might be interested in a joint user experience presentation with IBM.

7

Submit a Requirement

– This is your opportunity to influence IBM products and

services and make your voice heard!!

– Submitting via SHARE is often better then asking as an

individual – not just one voice but many.

• Gives you a chance to work with IBM and other clients to better

articulate your request.

– DON’T LEAVE THIS ROOM !!

• Requirements session immediately follows the Project Opening

at 12:30PM (right here in Europe 3)

– Contact Ed Petka (Edward.Petka@fiserv.com) if you have

any questions or need assistance with the wording of your

requirement

Project Opening Presentation Introduction

• Information growth a challenge or an opportunity for

mainframe storage users?

– With an exponential growth of information created and stored, users

are pressed to find the right data to keep and show the value of

what is kept, all while managing this quickly and efficiently.

– New storage technologies are explored and new opportunities are

emerging.

– While many new solutions are showcased, the traditional

Mainframe infrastructure can play a relevant role.

– Please welcome our Keynote Speaker –

Hitachi Data Systems VP of IT Infrastructure Platforms Product

Management, Roberto Basilio
