• Before I start making my own movie campaign, I am going to look at a new released film and there movie campaign. For this task I picked the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Movie campaigns start off with releasing teaser posters this is to give a taste to the audience about the film before releasing the full theatrical poster. However the full theatrical will only be released after the teaser trailer had been. Of course they would have rearranged to have a magazine cover produced to promote the film and the eventually then the full poster will be released. Movie campaigns have updated to use social network sites this is because they have become every popular and become a part of peoples everyday life’s meaning that social networks are another way of promoting the film.
• Movie campaigns are all about raising awareness about the film this also builds suspense and enigmas before it is released this is why they bring out teaser posters and trailers. The magazine covers and trailers and poster will all be linked for example they will all have similarities like a colour theme. They do this because this makes it easy for the audience to identify the film. This is so they are recognisable to the audience and helps promote the film. If a movie campaign fail to create these similarities between these posters , trailer and magazine cover it can have an impact how the magazine sells. I think that guardians of the galaxy has done this successfully and I will research guardians of the galaxy’s movie campaign.
• Film: Guardians Of The Galaxy
• Director: James Gunn
• Year: 2014
• Narrative-
• Peter Quill from Earth, Who was abducted when he was a little boy after the passing of his mother. After stealing a mysterious orb in the far reaches of outer space he is now the main target of a manhunt led by the villain known as Ronan the Accuser. To help fight Ronan and his team and save the galaxy from his power, Quill creates a team of space heroes known as the "Guardians of the Galaxy" to save the world.
Teaser posters are meant to create mystery about the film and not give to much information away
about the film. Images in the poster are usually the main character is on the teaser poster. However in
the movie campaign of guardians of the galaxy they introduce all the characters on separate posters
this makes the audience want to get to know the characters and go see the film. Teaser posters are
usually close up images so they don’t give any information away. In guardians of the galaxy they have
a full length image of the character which looks like a battlefield this is so the audience know that this
film is going to contain lots of fighting scenes. The posters below are for the film guardians of the
galaxy these posters would come out before the next teaser trailer which will include the main
character and the date.
This will be the main teaser poster that will
be the last teaser poster released before
the main ones. It shows the main character
and the date it gives more information to
the audience about the film. It establishes
more about the it shows the audience the
type of genre of the film and what the
audience should expect of the film.
The teaser posters of the this film follow the conventions of a teaser
poster. The don’t give no extra information away about the film.
However they give enough information away for the audience to
create an understanding also to have made an decision if this is a
film they want to see. Also through this you can see how they have
stuck to the colour scheme . The colour scheme links to the sci-fi
theme to an out of space film. They use dark blues and purples.
Which is continued throughout the teaser posters. The font of the
posters is all the same which is gold. By having gold writing for the
font sends the representation about treasure and gold and valuable
objects. However the teaser poster with the main character which
will only be launched after the teaser posters without the date so they
don’t wreck the suspension of the film. The second teaser trailer
presents the audience with the date.
After all of the teaser posters have been launched the
campaign will then launch the full theatrical poster. you
can tell that this is the full theatrical poster because
they hold the conventions of a full theatrical like: the
starring actors, a billing block , the marvel logo, a full
length title it also contains all the main characters. The
full theatrical poster revels a lot more information then
the teaser posters for example you can see that there
is a battle in the background. The that the angle that
the poster is taken creates the affect that we are
looking up to them making the powerful characters the
colours in the poster are stereotypical to space films as
they uses dark blues and purples and gold's they keep
this theme throughout the posters . What also lets us
know that this a space film because of the weapons
they have in the poster.
In a movie campaign they will create a big build up to launch the film also to promote it and
raise awareness for the film. For example with the guardians of the galaxy they release a
number of teaser posters to give the audience a sneak peak about the movies release. Then
after they have released all the teaser posters without the date and maybe just a simple
image of one character they usually launch another teaser poster but with the main character
and the date of the release of the film then finally the full theatrical poster with the billing block
, date and a more information in the image about the film. After releasing the posters they will
then have the magazine cover released which is stereotypically the image of the full theatrical
posters however the guardians of the galaxy have still used an image containing all the main
characters just a different one instead the one from the poster. The magazine will follow the
conventions of the campaign like sticking to the colour scheme and using an image of all the
main characters. It island typical that guardians of the galaxy was on the convert of empire
because it fit the magazines theme of focusing on action films like other marvel films like iron
man and avengers.
Throughout the campaign we can see the
similarities for example the colour scheme
and theme is kept like the colours being
blues , purples and gold‘s. This is
important because it makes the film
recognisable and easy to identify for the
audience. In every image in the campaign
they create the same atmosphere for the
film to be action packed and a
stereotypical space film. In the images
that are used throughout the campaign for
example the characters are always
dressed for battle or are fighting in their
images giving the audience an idea on
what the film will be based around and
follows the conventions of an action film.
TEASER TRAILER https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EZgB04jHto
The teaser trailer don‘t give information away about the
storyline and what‘s going happen in the film. However it
gives us enough information to learn some of the character
traits. There captions use all the same fonts to fit the colour
theme even through out the trailer you can see why the
posters and the magazines stick to the colour theme
because it is used throughout the trailer. Some of the
images from the posters we can see in the trailer
highlighting the link through the campaign.

The full theatrical trailer it gives a lot more information
away about the character traits. For example he describes
rocket and groot as thugs , Gamora as an assassin , drax
the manic and himself a thief. We see them having a
battle. The captions explain lot more and show the
audience that they are not bad as one of the captions is
all hero's start off somewhere and release the date to the
audience.
