OFFICER SAFETY ALERT

Donald W. Reid 2011

Today 11-13-2011, Deputies Andre and Kirlin noticed that an inmate nail clipper, like those sold by commissary, could be used as a screwdriver to remove screws and bolts from many places. This presentation will show pictures of a few of those items that could be removed or opened by using the nail clippers.

Although most of the fixtures in our facility have the two point type of screw or bolt as pictured above, many of those fixtures have had the screws or bolts replaced with screws or bolts that have either a flat or phillips head.

Even the two point type of bolts and screws can be loosened or removed by inmates if not noticed and reported by Deputies

If you don’t think that the inmates can have the time necessary to remove an item like a door plate, please note the note left by an inmate on the inner door frame of the 2 East Holding Cell (and the type of screw securing the door plate.

Now, see what can be made by removing just such a door plate.
