NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL, BENGALURU
Revised Accreditation Framework
Guidelines for Open Universities (OUs) to opt out ‘Non Applicable Metrics’ or
“Optional Metrics’
NAAC is continuously considering feedback from stakeholders about Revised Accreditation
Framework (RAF). While inclusion of a variety of metrics in Quality Indicator Framework
(QIF), it is necessary to keep in mind the broad canvas of best practices in maintaining
quality, making all of them mandatory to the OUs is not a feasible approach.
The competent authority of NAAC on the basis of recommendations of National Task Force
(NTF) has approved the provision to OUs to opt out some of the metrics which may not be
applicable to them for various reasons.
Following are the rules for ‘Non Applicable Metrics’ or ‘Optional Metrics’:
a) Maximum Weightage of metrics that can be opted out shouldn’t exceed 50
Weightage
(upto 5%).
b) Metrics with maximum of total 20 Weightage per criteria can be opted out.
c) All Metrics in Criterion VII is Essential. No metrics in Criterion VII can be opted
out.
d) Metrics identified as ‘Optional’ can only be opted out (List of Optional Metrics :
Annexure 1) are enclosed.
e) All Qualitative Metrics cannot be opted out.
f) List of Essential Metrics (Mandatory Metrics: Annexure 2) are also enclosed.
The calculation of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of OUs will be done excluding
upto 5% metrics as opted out by the OUs. This decision is aimed at helping OUs as they will
not be assessed on metrics not applicable to them.
