TheASNCanadaFIACanadianAutoSlalomChampionshipeventwasheldinBlainville,QuébecatthePMGTechnologiestestingtrackfacilityandwasorganizedbyClubAutosportDesLaurentides(CADL)underthedirectionoftheclub’spresident,FrançoisLeduc.

Arecordbreakingentryof146competitorsandalmost1200runslaterovertwocoursesintwodaystheclasswinnersandthetopthreeoveralldriversweredetermined.MikeAversafromWhitby,OntarioinhisSubaruImpreza2.5rswascrownedthe2016CanadianAutoSlalomChampionrepeatinghis2014overallwininPEI.SecondoverallwenttoSimonGagnonfromQuebecCityinhisSubaruImprezaSTI(BothwereintheStreetModifiedclass)whileMichaelMorganofFairfield,Pennsylvania,inhisNissan350Z(CStreet),finishedthirdoverall.Therewere6differentvehicleclassesrepresentedinthetop10overallfinishers.

Theeventwasrununderidealsummerweatherconditionsforallthreedays.Fridaywasregistration,technicalinspectionandatestandtuneevent.SaturdayandSundaysawthecompetitorscompeteonaflowing,buttechnicalcoursedesignedbyCarlWener,whichallowedthecompetitorstochoosetheirlinesinandoutofthemainelements.Thecoursewassecondgearwithacoupleoftemptationstogotothirdforabriefmoment.Thecompetitors,asagroup,wereveryhappywiththecourse,whichraninonedirectionondayoneandtheotherondaytwo.

ThefacilityatPMGTechnologieswherethecompetitionwasheldisquitespecialastheasphaltsurfaceisnewlypavedandflat.Thegripwasalittleslickforthefirstrunsofeachday,butbecamebetterveryquicklyaseachdaywenton.Theeventorganizershadarrangedfortwotimingsystems(1asbackup)andforasoundsystemtobroadcastacommentaryandthetimesthroughouttheweekend.Theyhadaportablegrandstandforspectators.Alivesportsbroadcasterwasalsopresentattheeventandbroadcasttheeventonliveradio.AlotofinterviewsweredonewhichgaveanopportunitytotalkaboutAutoSlalomandextendaninvitationtotakepart.Aswell,FlagWorldwaspresentandreportedontheeventonitswebsite.

AsiscustomwiththeNationals,theorganizersmadetheeventasocialeventwitharrangedcampingonsitealongwithahosthotel.TheyalsohadabarbequeontheSaturdayaftercompetitioncametoaclosewhichsawaboutonehundredofthecompetitorsstayandrelaxoutofthesuninalargetentthatseatedover100people.Therewaslotsoffoodandthe‘party’atmospherewentonwellintolateevening.Theawardsceremonywasalsoheldinthetentandthevastmajorityofthecompetitorsstayedfortheawards.Itwasaveryfittingendingtotheevent.

Therewere31vehicleclassesinallwithsomeofthemwellsubscribed:

Xpreparedhad12entrantsandNareshDebidin’s120.491totaltime,inhisMazdaSpeedMX-5,tooktheclassovercomingMaxime-OlivierOuellette,inhisAcuraIntegra’s121.564.

Threeclasseshad11entrants.InBStreet,GregoryVincentinhisHondaS2000finishedaheadofBryanOlynykinhisS2000-127.495vs128.572.InStreetTouringX,PeterLuu(HondaCivicSir)had128.372whileSamuelKrauss(SubaruBRZ)had129.457.InStreetTouringR,GregSweet(HondaS2000)finishedwitha128.072whileStevenDayinhisMazdaMX-5hada129.424.

SuperStreetModifiedhad9entriesandPatricePotvin’s121.013inhisMazdaMiatagavehimthetitlebyalmost3secondsover2ndplaceinclass.

CStreethad8entriesandwhileMichaelMorgan’s127.122(3rdoverall)wontheclass,secondinclassalsofinishedinthetop10overall(8th)–BillRogersoninhisMazdatotalledscorefromthefastestrunfromeachofthetwodayswas129.427.

CStreetPreparedhad6entriesandAaronZangaofSittsville,ONtooktheclassinhisMazdaMiatawith126.641by10secondsoversecondinclass.

StreetTouringShad5entrieswithMathieuPayeurinaMazdaMiatawontheclasswitha131.388combinedruntotal.

EStreetalsohad5entriesandCharlesAudetofSte-Thérèse,QCinhisToyotaMR2Spyder2000finished7thoverallandwonhisclasswitha131.191.MatthewSteevesofQuispamsis,NBinhisMazdaSpeedMX-5wassecondlessthanfourtenthsofasecondbehindwitha131.566.

DStreetPrepared,aswell,had5entriesandGuyBoucherofTerrebonne,QCandhisToyotaCorollaGTAtookfirstwithatimeof137.010bytwotenthsofasecondoverBrodeyDoverofOttawa,ONandhisFiat500Abarth’s137.233.

GStreetwaswonbyStevePhillipsofMiddleSackville,NSinhisVolkswagenGTIwithatimeof131.593whichalsoplacehim7thoverall.

includingthisclassintheirNationalchampionshipeventsthisyear,onlyRegionalorClubevents.Thecommitteedecidedthattheclasscouldbeincludedinthe2016CACeventasanexhibitionclass,eligibleforeventClasstrophiesonly,givenadequateentriesmeetingtheorganizingclub’srequirementsforclasstrophies.ABulletinwillbeissuedtothiseffect.TimeAttack–2016rulesetpublishedontheASNwebsite.OntarioisintroducingfournewRawTimeClassestotheirRegionalChampionship,basedstrictlyonapowertoweightbasisfordeterminingclasses.ThecommitteewasaskedtoreviewthenumberofpassingzonesallowedforeventsattheMosportDriverDevelopmentTrack.Afterdiscussionandconsultation,itwasdecidedtoapproveincreasingthenumberofpassingzonestofive,forlappingandTimeAttackeventsatthistrack.Bulletintobeissued.

OtherItems:AreviewofASNSafetyRegulations,withregardstoupdatingrolloverprotection,willbesentsoontotheRegionPresidentsfortheirreviewandcomments.ThelasteditionoftheSoloSportNewsletterwassentoutviaemailonMay12th.AnincidentataCACCAutoslalomeventwasreviewedbythecommittee,andtheywouldliketoremindallClubAutoslalomorganizersacrossthecountrytofollowtheASNAutoslalomguidelinesforcourselayoutandoffsetsfromfixedobjects,fortheirevents.TheNSCisworkinggathernamesofoverallandclasswinnersfrompreviousSoloSprintandCTACeventstocreatealivingrecordofpastwinners.

SoloSportChampionshipsToyo(MikeMiller)

TerryoutlinedhisrecentcommunicationwithMike.Mikehadindicatedhewouldbecomingtotheevent(hewasthereonbothcompetitiondays).HealsohaspreparedaformforcompetitorstofillinfortherebateofferforcompetitorsrunningonanewsetofToyoTires.HewasalsogoingtoprepareaFrenchversion.

(Theformsweresenttoeverycompetitorwiththeeventsupplementaryregulations.)2016CACJuly29-31,organizedbyClubAutosportDesLaurentides(CADL) Terry reported that Mike and François were now in communication and everything was set for the event with Toyo and that all the materials and the tent were in the hands of the event. A new CAC banner was ordered for use at the event. Terry is attending the event and will take the banner to the event for the awards ceremony. Stewards for the event was discussed and several names were proposed. Terry will contact. Supplementary Regulations will be sent to registered competitors. An email was received from a US competitor about using Hoosier tires in Stock Class. The question was answered, that Hoosier tires were not eligible in Stock Class.

2017CACEvent:CurrentStatus–ThelastinformationwastheVCMCwasconsidering applyingtohostthe2017eventinPittMeadows.Theapplicationforthe2017CACispostedontheASNwebsiteandhasbeendistributedtothecommittee.

CAC2016sponsoredbyToyoTireswasaresoundingsuccess.TheeventwasheldJuly29,30,312016atthePMGTechnologiestestcenterinBlainville,Quebec.Theorganizingclub,CADL,didaterrificjob.146competitorsfromacrossCanadaandtheUSweremadetofeelwelcome.Theeventfinishedwithaveryentertainingawardsceremony.146competitorsisanewrecordforparticipationattheCAC.

AdiscussiontookplaceregardingtwodrivercarsattheCAC.Thediscussionfocusedonrunorderfordriversofmultidrivercars.TheNSCisdevelopingwordingtoclarifytheissue.

WorkiscontinuingoncollectinghistoricalinformationontheCACandtheCTAC.

TheCommitteeisreviewingapplicationsforthe2017CACevent,andwillawarditnextmonth.
