THE NERDIST PODCAST TSHIRTS The first two designs hold the strong colours, yellow and red that represent the original Nerdist logo chosen by Chris Hardwick. The text is a definition of the word ‘Nerdist’, this actually advertises or informs people who are unaware of the term. This isn’t an inside joke, it’s a way of letting people know your interest and what being a ‘Nerdist’ is about. The Nerdist Podcast doesn’t earn much money from
their free episodes so printing the Tshirts is more cost effective and ineffective for mass production, that is why most of the designs above are concepts from the fans.
HostfulMostful TShirts are great for fans of the show that enjoy the hostful episodes. A hostful consists of no guest’s, just the three Hosts Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray and Matt Mira sitting down and catching up with each other whilst making clever film references and offensive dickjokes. The “enjoy your burrito” tshirt is a quote from the endof every podcast episode; this means to typically ‘enjoy your life’. Someone who would buy this shirt could have listened to just one or every episode. The quote is actually an american cliche, making it more unique to wear in the United Kingdom, this appeals to a hip/fresh character that wants to look a little different. Big C & Vajonah & Mira Booey Tshirts are for the hardcore fans, these are the nicknames of the three hosts. Understanding the actors nicknames is important before buying this tshirt, it is highly doubtful that just anybody would purchase this item of clothing without knowing the reference. The hostful episode where they configure their nicknames is routed in between over 600 shows, which means that the buyer would have listened to a fair few before discovering fun facts about their nicknames. The way that these Tshirts promote the Nerdist Podcast is effective in a positive way because of the bright vivid colours and complimentary quotes. The Tshirts stay true to the podcast, meaning that they aren’t parodies of any films or contain any intertextualities, they simply revolve entirely around the hosts and The Nerdist Industry. I personally would love to own a shirt, in hope to bump into somebody else who listens to the podcast. That way, I will be open to any confrontation regarding the quote on my chest, including people who want to understand the meaning of my tshirt. It’s great to be in contact with another fan, that way you have more to talk about. I would also feel good because I will have contributed to the success of Nerdist Industries. Tshirts can often reflect somebody’s age, for example: Guns & Roses or The Pixies, if someone wears these bands Tshirts today, they are often going to be in that generation, having lived in the time those bands were popular, or they are teenagers with good music taste. PixelArt on tshirts can also determine whether someone is a fan from the 70s80s because the current generation has the choice to play pixelart games or HD/photorealistic video games, which was not the case in the past. Differences like these can determine peoples preferences in merchandise, choosing what reflects their enjoyment.
