TETRA is an open standard for professional and critical communications. It is used in more than 100 countries worldwide. This seminar is intended as an introduction for those who are new to TETRA and also as a brief update for those who may be familiar with TETRA but want to be brought up to-date with the current status and the future development of this technology. This introductory seminar will focus on the benefits of voice and data applications that TETRA systems can provide to the professional users of mobile radio around the world. It will also provide up-to-date information on its global successes and the position of TETRA technology in the global mobile communication marketplace. The seminar will be chaired by Harald Ludwig, chairman of the TETRA + Critical Communications Association Technical Forum, and the speakers are senior managers from the organisations who are members of the Association. Several of the speakers have been intimately involved in the creation of the TETRA standard itself.
MISSION CRITICAL MOBILE BROADBAND COMMUNICATIONS ROADMAPWhat does the future hold for Mission Critical Mobile Broadband networks, usage and applications? What are the next steps for planning the technical roadmap? This seminar will bring together Users, Network Operators, Innovators and Solutions Providers to debate application requirements, potential LTE solutions, and trials for future Critical Communications networks.
The agenda will include the following presentations:• Critical Communications TETRA And Broadband
Roadmap For 2030General Ilkka Korkiamäki, Chief of C4 (J6) and CIO, Finnish Defence Forces Jarmo Vinkvist, CEO, Suomen Virveverkko

CRITICAL CONTROL ROOM PLANNING & CHANGE MANAGEMENTThis fully interactive meeting will ask delegates to assess the fundamental elements of a control room and consider how we can develop and optimise processes, manage change and achieve a sustainable develop path.
Attendees will consider key challenges, including:•Changing citizen expectations•Keeping up with the requirements of the
business•Rapidly changing technology•Cost of provision•Stagnation•Poor performance•New working practices and ideas•What might drive change in the future and
when?•What might change look like?•What are the barriers to success?
Seminar Leaders
Peter Prater, Chair, TCCA Control Rooms WG
Chris Dreyfus, Chief Inspector, British Transport Police
TETRA FOR SCADA, SMART GRIDS AND TELEMETRYWhilst the first TETRA networks were very much focussed on secure voice services the last few years has seen growth in the use of TETRA for SCADA/telecontrol and more recently for smart grids. Latest developments such as compact TETRA systems have opened up new possibilities for smaller systems and TEDS promises much faster data rates and powerful new features. But what does this all mean for Users of SCADA, smart grid and telemetry systems?
This seminar will bring you updates from the TCCA SCADA, Smart Grids & Telemetry Group, as well as specific case studies including the use of TETRA for data transmission and control:
• SCADA business case for TETRA, GSM and WiFi – considering regulatory issues and system capabilities
• TEDS data transmission for industry
This highly interactive session will allow delegates to discuss, share experiences and learn with likeminded colleagues from around the world
Led by: Nick Smye from Mason Advisory Services with input from ESS, Piciorgros and Teltronic
HOW TO MANAGE FUTURE HYBRID NETWORKS IN A SECURE AND EFFICIENT WAY - TETRA, SECURE MVNO AND BROADBAND•What are hybrid networks?•Data applications driving the need•Secure and efficient management of
hybrid networks•PMR operator’s viewpoint - Finland’s 5
Steps to Critical Broadband•Operator’s financial landscape of
broadband introduction•TETRA evolution and standardization• Investments contributing for today

Tapio Savunen, Director, Business Development, Airbus Defence and Space
EXPLORING NEXT GENERATION IN-BUILDING PUBLIC SAFETY NETWORKS THROUGH LTE AND DIGITAL DISTRIBUTIONPublic Safety TETRA offers critical voice communication capabilities for public safety users but the high-speed data capabilities of a future broadband public safety network must be provided by a modern technology, most probably LTE.
With emergency services around the world promoting the sharing of video and image content in disaster situations, the critical communications network needs to be failsafe. What are the challenges of deploying LTE? And what about when you throw in the complexity of enclosed environments like tunnels or metro stations?
This seminar will outline the impact that LTE will have on the provision of public safety networks inside challenging environments, drawing on real-life case studies*, and explore the options for future networks using digital distribution.
Participants of this session will also consider:
• The increased importance of managing interference in future mission critical networks incorporating LTE
• The challenges of deploying both public safety and cellular coverage alongside each other in confined environments
• The future of wireless coverage distribution using digital technology
Led by: Ingo Flömer and Moti Shalev, Product Management Directors, Axell Wireless
CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS FOR TRANSPORT This seminar will examine how to optimise the use of Critical Communications technologies in the transportation environment including rail, light rail, metros, mass transit, highways and airports.
Discussion will focus on technical implementation issues, future broadband requirements and solutions, market needs, operational considerations and application development.
Using key case studies from the transport sector, presentations and discussion will evaluate:•Planning, designing and deploying total coverage
solutions to enable communication (voice and data) between drivers, stations, depots, control centres and to passengers
•Examining The First Positive Train Control (PTC) Over TETRA Implementation
•Evaluating the requirements for broadband critical communications in transport environments
•Deploying TETRA To Increase Efficiency In The Rail Environment
•Voice & Data communication solutions for Transport: Next steps in enhanced applications, on-board integration, video and security operations
The Seminar will be led by the TCCA Transport Group, with extra input from GE Transportation Systems, Teltronic and Finnish Transport Agency
CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS SECURITYThis seminar will examine how to manage new developments and the evolution of Critical Communications technologies that bring new security and fraud threats.
The TCCA Security & Fraud Prevention Group (SFPG) is an independent team that unifies all parties within the Critical Communications community. The SFPG design counter measures that can be built into new developments, whilst at the same time ensuring that fraud and security do not act as barriers to new TETRA & Critical Communications projects.
The agenda will focus on the following issues:
• Security in Critical Communications, secure system design, creation of security policy
• Secure implementations and physical security of TETRA terminals
• Air Interface Encryption and End-to-End Encryption
• Security management• Securing the evolution of Critical
Communications- LTE environment - LTE mechanisms
Led By: Members Of The TCCA Security & Fraud Prevention Group
MISSION CRITICAL APPLICATIONS WITH TETRA DATA AND BEYONDJoin this seminar to evaluate how to develop applications for existing and future networks and bearers. The agenda will focus on both the development and standardisation of practical applications, as well as techniques for optimising applications to enable enhanced data services. All attendees will have the opportunity to network, brainstorm and share ideas on developing and implementing a range of applications for critical communications.
Hear and share insights on:•How TETRA applications enable
modern data-centric operations•Example applications from real users•Technical details to help you get the
most out of TETRA networks with data•Practical introduction to creating
TETRA data apps•Delivering text, image, push and pull
end-to-end apps using TETRA - Instant deployment of command and
control
