DrOlufemi(“Femi”)Oladapoisamaternal,perinatal,andnewbornhealthresearchandpublichealthexpert,workingasaMedicalOfficerintheMaternalandPerinatalHealth&PreventingUnsafeAbortionteam,oftheUNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/WorldBankSpecialProgrammeofResearch,DevelopmentandResearchTraininginHumanReproduction(HRP),DepartmentofReproductiveHealthandResearch,WorldHealthOrganization,Geneva,Switzerland.Hequalifiedasanobstetrician-gynaecologistinNigeriaandwasanAssociateProfessorandConsultantattheDepartmentofObstetricsandGynaecology,OlabisiOnabanjoUniversity/TeachingHospital,Sagamu,Nigeria,until2013.HeisaVisitingProfessorattheDepartmentofObstetricsandGynaecology,BabcockUniversityTeachingHospital,Ilishan-Remo,Nigeria.HeholdsaMaster’sdegreeinpublichealthandtheFellowshipsoftheWestAfricanCollegeofSurgeons(FWACS)andInternationalCollegeofSurgeons(FICS).

DrOladaposervedforseveralyearsasamastertrainerandaninternationalfacilitatorfortheWHOworkshoponEvidence-BasedDecision-MakinginReproductiveHealth-atrainingworkshopaimedatpromotingbestpracticesinreproductivehealth.From2000,heledtheclinicalresearchandtrainingactivitiesoftheCentreforResearchinReproductiveHealth,Sagamu,Nigeria(acentrecollaboratingwithWHOinreproductivehealthresearchandtraining)andwastheCentre’sDirectorofClinicalResearchuntil2013.BeforejoiningWHO,DrOladapocollaboratedwithcolleaguesattheWHODepartmentofReproductiveHealthandResearchinvarioustechnicalcapacities,includingconsolidatingevidencebaseforguidelinedevelopmentandresearchprioritizationinRMNCH.Hisresearchinterestslieprimarilyinmaternalandperinatalhealth,withaspecialfocusonsystematicreviewsandevidence-basedobstetriccare,qualityofobstetriccare,pretermbirth,intrapartumcare,andstrategiestoreducetheleadingcausesofmaternalnear-missesanddeathsinunderservedpopulations.Hecreatedthelargestnetworkoftertiaryinstitutionsforsurveillanceandevaluationofqualityofcareformaternalnear-missesanddeathsinNigeria,togeneratehigh-qualitydataontheburdenandcausesoflife-threateningmaternalcomplicationsanddeathsbetween2012and2013.HeisareviewauthorandmemberoftheeditorialteamoftheCochranePregnancyandChildbirthGroup.DrOladapojoinedtheWHODepartmentofReproductiveHealthandResearchin2013,whereheprovidesmanagerialandtechnicalleadershipinevidencesynthesis,researchandguidelinedevelopmenttoimprovematernal,perinatalandnewbornhealth.SincejoiningWHO,heplayedakeyroleinevidencesynthesesanddevelopmentoftheWHOrecommendationson:AugmentationofLabour;InterventionstoImprovePretermBirthOutcomes;PreventionandTreatmentofMaternalPeripartumInfections;PregnancyManagementintheContextofZikaVirusInfection;andAntenatalCareforaPositivePregnancyExperience.HeisamemberoftheWHOGuidelinesReviewCommitteewhereheprovidesmethodologicalinputandtechnicalsupporttothedevelopmentofguidelinesacrossWHO.OlufemiOladapohaspublishedmorethan110researcharticlesinpeer-reviewedjournals.

DrKennyMcCormickisaConsultantNeonatologistatJohnRadcliffeHospitalandHonorarySeniorLectureratOxfordUniversityhavingtrainedinEdinburgh,Newcastle-upon-TyneandMelbourne.Hehasalong-standinginterestinneonatalnutritionandwasamemberoftheresearchgroupinNewcastlewhodevelopedandintroducedthepracticeoffeedingpretermbabiesenrichedmilkfollowinghospitaldischargetoimprovegrowth.Hewasexpertadvisortothe2010NCEPOD(NationalConfidentialEnquiryintoPatientOutcome&Death)reviewintothecareofpatientsreceivingparenteralnutritionwhichfoundthatonlyaquarterofbabieshadcarethatwasconsideredtorepresentgoodpractice.Followingthis,parenteralnutritionprovisionwasincludedasaqualityoutcomemeasureforallneonatalunitsintheUKresultinginsignificantimprovementsinpractice.

Kennywasco-applicantontheADEPTstudywhichdemonstratedadvantagesforstartingmilkfeedsearlyinthemostatriskneonatalgroup–growthrestrictedwithabnormalumbilicalbloodflow–andisco-applicantontheSIFTtrialof

2800pretermbabieswhichhasrecentlypresentedthefindingthatincreasingmilkatfasterrates(30ml/kg/day)doesnotincreasetheriskofnecrotizingenterocolitis.Theresultofbothstudiesisthatpretermbabieshavemilkintroducedsoonerandfasterresultinginfewerdaysofparenteralnutrition.

KennycollaboratesonanumberofstudieswithinOxfordUniversity.HisworkwiththeCardiovascularClinicalResearchFacilityhasstartedtocharacterisetheeffectsofpretermbirthonadultcardiachealthandworkwiththeInstituteofBiomedicalEngineeringhasseenthedevelopmentofanovelapproachtovitalsignmonitoringinpretermbabiesbasedoncameratechnology.

DrÖzgeTunçalpisaphysicianandepidemiologistcurrentlybasedinGenevaworkingasascientistintheMaternalandPerinatalHealth&PreventingUnsafeAbortionteam,oftheUNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/WorldBankSpecialProgrammeofResearch,DevelopmentandResearchTraininginHumanReproduction(HRP),DepartmentofReproductiveHealthandResearch,WorldHealthOrganization,Geneva,Switzerland.DrTunçalpledtheworkon“WHOrecommendationsonantenatalcareforpositivepregnancyexperience”,releasedinNovember2016andcurrentlyleadstheresearchandevidencesynthesisportfolioonantenatalcarefortheDepartment.FurthermoresheplaysakeyroleintheWHO-initiatedGlobalNetworkonQualityof

Careleadingtheworkonevidencesynthesisforimprovingqualityofcare,andmanagingtheresearchportfolioonexperienceofcareincludingmistreatmentofwomenandlabourcompanionship.HerworkincludesresearchanddevelopmentofWHOtoolssuchasWHOapplicationofICD-10todeathsduringtheperinatalperiod(ICD-PM)andProgrammeReportingStandardsforSRMNCAH.Incollaborationwithcountry,regionalandinternationalpartners,sheusesquantitativeandqualitativemethodologiesaswellasinnovativeapproachestoresearchqualityofcareformaternalandnewbornhealth,includingmaternalmorbidityandsafeabortioninlow-andmiddle-incomecountries.Sheiscurrentlyconductingamulti-countrysurveyonabortion-relatedmorbidityandhavebeenpartofthetechnicalteampublishingWHOglobalestimatesoncausesofmaternalmortality,andincidenceandsafetyofabortions.DrTunçalpisinthedevelopmentgroupsforGRADE-CERQual(amethodologytoassessconfidenceintheevidencefromreviewsofqualitativeresearch)andfacilitatingevidence-informeddecisionsaboutcomplexinterventions.ÖzgeTunçalpcompletedherMDatIstanbulMedicalSchool,MPHandPhDatJohnsHopkinsBloombergSchoolofPublicHealthandapostdoctoralfellowshipattheDepartmentofObstetricsandGynecologyatYaleSchoolofMedicine.SheholdsanadjunctfacultyappointmentatJohnsHopkinsBloombergSchoolofPublicHealth.
