ECP grants Pl.145billion in 2011

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz recently said that the Employees' Compensation Program(ECP), through its administering agencies, the Social SecuritySystem (SSS) for the private sector and the Government ServiceInsurance System (GSIS) for the public sector, has awarded atotal of 1.145 billion in benefits payments covering 282,046claims filed by workers in CY2011.

"The State Insurance Fund (SIF) which is managedseparately by the SSS and the GSIS, holds the contributions paidby the private sector employers and the government agencies,finances the ECP's benefit payments comprising of sickness,medical services, disability, rehabilitation services, funeral anddeath benefits," Baldoz further explained.

Secretary Baldoz added that the benefits under theemployees' compensation program seek to mitigate income risksassociated with work-related sickness or injury which resulted todisability or death.

The SSS-managed SIFfunded a total of P1.08 billion worth ofbenefits for 274,121 claims in the private sector while the GSIS-managed SIFgranted a total of P67.81 million for 7,925 claims inthe government sector.

The total benefit grants for the private sector employees areas follows: P817.06 million for death and pension, P116.15million for disability benefits, P105.38 million for sicknessbenefits, P34.21 million for medical services, P4.03 million forfuneral benefits and P.13 million for rehabilitation services.

In the public sector, disability benefits registered the largestchunk in benefit payments which amounted to P35.13 million,P7.80 million for death and pension, P2.28 million for sickness,P17.32 million for medical services, P5.25 million for funeralbenefits and P.03 million for rehabilitation services.

sector workers under the Employees' Compensation Programthere are still a lot of workers and employers who have noknowledge on the benefits and privileges they can avail under theprogram that is why she directed ECC Executive Director StellaZipagan-Banawis to intensify awareness on the ECP nationwide.

Director Banawis reported that the total contributionsremitted by the private sector employers to the SSS in CY 2011amounted to P1.37 billion while the government remitted a totalofPl.97 billion to the GSIS-managed SIF.

At the end of 2011, the SIF was reported at P36.31 billion,that is P27.71 billion at the SSSand P8.6 billion at the GSIS.

~Tile Employees' Compensation CommissIon Quick Response Team (ECC-QRT) conducts a follow-up visitto victims of m ilitary grenade blast and ambush incidents in Isabela and lfuqao province at the AFPMedical Center (formerly V. Luna General Hospital) in Quezon City, Metro Manila in May 2012. Theobjective of the follow-up visit was to explain the Employees' Compensation Program in detail, assistand guide the victims in the filling up of EC application forms while they are still recuperating at thehos ital.

ECC aids ODW finddecent work

The Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC), anattached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment,helps occupationally-disabled workers (ODWs) obtain decentemployment thru its KaGabay or Katulong at Gabay saManggagawang may Kapansanan Program.

One of those who benefitted from the ECC-KaGabayProgram was Beltranico Balcena, [r, a management trainee ofHonda Motors Sports in Makati City. After a client's visit, Balcenamet a vehicular accident while cruising along Buendia Avenueonboard a company issued motorcycle. Because of his injury in2006, Mr. Balcena, Jr.was out of work due to his disability until2008.

For his work-connected disability, he was granted a total ofPhp 91,658.00 employees' compensation benefits. Aside fromthis, he availed of the skills training under the EC KaGabayProgram for which he enrolled in the AutoCADTraining Course atthe ECCaccredit training institution, the MFITraining Institute inLa na. Now, Balcena receives a monthly salary of P24,000.00and he finds his knowledge in AutoCad valuable in theperformance of his function as project engineer.

ECCconducts ECPseminars foralmost 200companies

The ECC conducted 11 seminars in July 2012 whichbenefited a total of 197 companies with 530 HR managers,supervisors, administrative officers, safety managers in MetroManila, Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro City, Zamboanga City andRoxas City.
