Two Book ReviewsRoxbury, Oct. 7.—The Rox-

bury Reading club held its first fall meeting Monday afternoon a t the home of Mrs. William Forst. Mrs. Forst did the re­view “Birds of America” by Mary McCarthy. She also told a bit about another book, "Up­state,” by Edmund Wilson, hus­band of Mary McCarthy,

The new officers are Mrs. T. Howard Smith, president; Mrs. Niles Poff, vice president; Mrs. Henry Munsell, secretary-treas- urer; Mrs. William R. Morgan, executive member and head of the creative writing commit­tee. Mrs. Poff has publicity, Mrs. Munsell, transportation, and Mrs. Earl T. Schreiber, nomination committees.

Cookies and coffee were served a t the close of the meet­ing. Huge flocks of red-winged blackbirds were observed hov­ering around a cornfield in the field below.

The next meeting will be Nov. 1 a t the home of Mi's. David. Munsell. Mrs. W alter Guttin- ger will review “That Man Cartwright,” by Ann Fairbairn.

Mrs. Donald A. Liddle and Mrs. Mary Liddle were in Cortland to visit Mrs. Mary Liddle’s daughter, Shirley. Shirley is a student at Cortland State University college. She came home with them for the week­end.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bullard Jr. of Poughkeepsie and chil­dren, Tammy and Darrin, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Woodin.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Weaver Sr. and granddaughter, Susie, spent the weekend in Kingston with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Nor­ris and family and Mr. and Mrs. William Boldi and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mayer and family of Highland were Saturday night guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Mayer.

, Mrs. Helen Tallen was a Thursday visitor of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Weaver Sr.

Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Firment and Mrs. Firment were Mr. and Mrs. Bruce VanSteenburg of Red Hook and Mr. and Mrs. Thor Klindt of Dovrasville.

Howard Slauson is in the Fox Memorial hospital, where he submitted to an oi^eration last week Wednesday. He is now recovering. His sister, Mrs. Edward Kittle of Bath, has been spending a few days with bis family in this vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Cross and children, Dale and Denise, spent from Friday until Sun­day a t the home of her father, William E. Griffin. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Kellerhouse Jr. of Oneonta were a t the home of her father last Sunday.

land have returned to their home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after spending a month with Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Martin.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Conklin and Mr. and Mrs. George Pettit of Long Island spent last week touring the New England states.

Mrs. Cordia Guier of Arkville and Mr. and Mrs. George Owen were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cook at Preston Hollow on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Atkin are parents of a son, Michael Jef­frey, born Sept. 23 a t the Mar- garetville Memorial hospital.

Mrs. Lena Tiffany spent Tuesday and Saturday nights with Mrs. Fred Swart in Mar­garetville.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Franks have bought a home in Marga­retville.

Miss Marlene Anne McCabe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wil' liam McCabe of Yonkers and

' Worcester, N. Y., was married in St. Joseph’s church Satur­day afternoon to Dougleis Wil­liam Sluiter, son, of Mr. and Mrs. William Sluiter of Marga­retville. Rev. John J. Scully of St. Peter’s church in Jersey C3ty, N. J., performed the cere­mony, assisted by Rev. Ted Barlow of Pleasant Valley United Methodist church in Pleasant Valley, Conn.

Escorted to the a lta r by her father, the bride was attended by her sister, Mary Agnes Mc­Cabe as maid of honor, and the sister of the bridegroom, Anne Sluiter as bridesmaid. David Perry of Oneonta and Richard Burr of Yonkers were the best men.

Mrs. Sluiter is a graduate of the Ursuline school in New Rochelle and is a senior in the College of Physical Education a t Wisconsin State university in LaCrosse. Her husband is a graduate of Margaretville central scJiool, the VermcHit academy a t Saxton’s River, Vt., and of Colgate university last June, when he received a bach­elor of arts degree in sociology and anthropology.

The ceremony was followed immediately by a reception a t the Westchester Country club in Rye, N. Y. The couple will live in LaCrosse, where Mr. Sluiter ejqpects to be employed.
