summER 2019 Elisa Danthinne, Francesca Giorgianni, and Kanado Ando were awarded a Scholars Independent Research Fellowship to continue their work focusing on legislation and industry-led ini-tiatives related to curtailing the use of digital modifications of weight and shape in media images, as the promotion of body positivity, and took their research to Japan!

Research News and Highlights

This year we are thrilled to continue working with the Northeastern Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Re-search, who have generously awarded a Health Equity Scho-larship to Dr. Rodgers for an evaluation of our Reel2Real program!

We have also received an award to study the effects of social media images on both men and women, so look out for some exciting findings there!

Congratulations!• Congratulations to Alice Lowy who successfully defended her dissertation titled «Internalization of Beauty Ideals and Eating Pathology in Black and White Women»

Sneak Peak at 2020Dr. Rodgers will be in Rome early this year, and looking forward to connecting with many European colleagues!

Meetings here and there...Thanks to being on sabbatical, Dr. Rodgers has had the opportunity of visiting and learning from some of our international collaborators

In October, she visited Dr. Mika Omori and her team in Tokyo, they worked together on their research interests related to healthy eating and the food environment.

This year is also an occasion for APPEAR to strengthen its ties with the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies program here at Northeastern, and we are particularly grateful to be using their beautiful space for our team meetings currently.
