ART NEWS
We have had a strong focus on Math in our art classes this term. The year 4 students have been inspired by M.C. Escher’s tessellation artwork, the year 5 and 6’s have focused on one point perspective drawings and the junior years have been looking at symmetry and creating balance in their compositions inspired by artist Paul Klee.
The students have all worked very hard this term and should be very proud of their accomplishments. Mrs Christy Thompson Art Teacher

ITALIAN NEWS
Ciao a tutti,
Balcatta Primary once again will participate in one of its most popular Italian
incursions – a visit from the Gelati Van.
This will take place on Tuesday 21 November.
The van will be at the school from 11.30am – 2pm.
Students will have the opportunity to sample one of Italy’s most sought-after
desserts.
All children from Kindy-Yr 6, will have the opportunity to ask for and receive
various types of Gelati ice-creams using the Italian terms that they have
been learning these last few weeks.
PRICES:
$3.00 – single cone (K-2 children only 1 scoop)
$5.00 – double cone or sundae cup
Flavours include: Chocolate, Vanilla, Bubblegum, Strawberry, Choc Mint &
Lemon & Mango sorbet.
I have been assured that the gelati does not contain egg, and the only
flavour that contains gluten is the Choc Mint. If there are any children with
severe allergies I would suggest you refrain from purchasing any ice-cream,
just as a precaution.
The children are asked to please bring the correct money on the
day.
Buonissimo!!

MORE PASTA PHOTO’S – A very big thank you to our chaplain Mrs McCarthy. She gave up
her time to help the Yr 6 Children make pasta on four consecutive weeks during their Italian
class. She is now our expert pasta maker! Grazie Signora McCarthy!

YEAR 4 EXCURSION to the Canning River Eco Education Centre
On Wednesday 1 November, our Year 4 class went on an excursion the
Canning River Eco Education Centre in Wilson. Firstly we walked around the
river spotting different types of birds with our binoculars. Then, we
heard from an experienced Nyoongar educator who demonstrated how the
resources provided by the land and river were traditionally and sustainably
used. The students displayed genuine interest and respect as they
answered and asked many questions. Afterwards, we had an opportunity to
participate in a range of hands-on activities. All students and staff had
fun and learnt a lot.
As summed up by one student, “This was the best excursion ever!”

Meeting and AGM
Our next P&C meeting and AGM will be held on
Thursday November 30 at 2pm in the School Staff room.
We are desperate for more people to join the P&C as
our current serving members are moving on and all
positions are becoming vacant at the end of this year. Please
come along – everyone is welcome AND we need you so we can
organise more events and activities to benefit our school & students,
however, we cannot without the committed help from others.
ENTHUSIASM – Virtue for NOVEMBER/DECEMBER
What is Enthusiasm? Enthusiasm is being inspired – full of spirit. It is being cheerful and happy. It is doing something wholeheartedly, with zeal and eagerness – being enthusiastic is being excited about something, looking forward to it. It comes from having a positive outlook.
Why Practise It? Everything becomes boring to a person without enthusiasm. A person without enthusiasm becomes boring, too. Enthusiasm is catching. When you are enthusiastic, other people like to be around you. Enthusiasm makes life more enjoyable.
Signs of Success Congratulations! You are practising Enthusiasm when you:
• let yourself enjoy looking forward to something
• think of imaginative ways to get things done
• do things wholeheartedly
• smile, laugh and enjoy what you do
• enjoy the wonders of life
• are full of positive spirit
