6In addition to the packaging I have produced detailed instructions for my product.
5I have come up with four very different design ideas. Each design suits my target market. I have taken the best parts of my four designs and combined these to create the best final design. My graphics are of a very high quality; carefully laid out and neatly coloured..I have produced my packaging very accurately and to a high quality. I have used suitable techniques to make the necessary information stand out. I thought about where the Night Light was going to be positioned, and included this in my design. My final product attracts the attention of my target market.I soldered all the components in the correct way around using the diagram. I was able to check my own soldering to make sure there were no dry joints or short circuits. My joints are small, neat and even. I have not melted the plastic of the wires with the soldering iron.I soldered all the components in the correct way around using the diagram. I was able to check my own soldering to make sure there were no dry joints or short circuits. My joints are small, neat and even. I have not melted the plastic of the wires with the soldering iron.I shaped each of the corners so that all four corners are identical. I removed all sharp edges, smoothing each edge evenly. I used the folding jigs correctly to mark out the acrylic. I heated the acrylic to the correct temperature on the strip heater and I folded the stand to the correct shape using the folding jigs.
4I have come up with four different design ideas. My designs appeal to my target audience, and are drawn to a high quality. I have taken the best parts from my initial design ideas to create the best final solution.I have produced packaging with all the necessary information on it. I have thought about where my Night Light will be positioned, and left enough room for this so that no information is covered. My product is suitable for my target market.I soldered the components in the correct way round using the diagram to help. I tested my circuit to make sure it was working. My soldering is a little bit uneven, but there are no dry joints or short circuits.I soldered the components in the correct way round using the diagram to help. I have removed all the sharp areas. I marked out the acrylic in the correct places. I created some bubbles when using the strip heater but I folded the stand to the correct shape using the folding jigs.
3I have come up with four design ideas. I have not really thought about my target market. I have chosen one of my ideas for my final solution.I have produced packaging for my product. Although the necessary information is there it is quite hard to read some of it.I soldered the components in the correct way round with a bit of help. I have used a bit too much solder at times, and my circuit is a little messy. I have melted the plastic of the wires in places.I soldered the components in the correct way round with a bit of help. I have used a bit too much solder at times, and my circuit is a little messy. I have melted the plastic of the wires in places.I did not shape the four corners but I removed all of the sharp edges. I marked out the acrylic for folding. I never used the folding jigs but successfully folded the stand to roughly the correct shape.
2I have come up with four design ideas. These use blocks of colour or patterns. I have not really thought about my target market. I have chosen one of the ideas for my final solution.I have produced the packaging of my final design. I forgot to leave room for the Night Light, and some of the information is covered up.With help I soldered all the components in the correct way around. Some of my joints were dry and some were shorted, and my circuit didnt work. I needed help to find the fault and correct this. With help I soldered all the components in the correct way around. Soldering
Name:As you progress in to KS4, with electronic circuits becoming more complicated involving more components, high quality soldering is absolutely essential. If your soldering is not of the highest quality there is an increased risk of your circuits not functioning as desired. (ie. the circuit may not work at all!)In order to practise your soldering, ensuring it is up to scratch, you are to assemble a simple circuit (comprising of a resistor, an LED, 2 switch wires and a battery clip).Remember:
1) The soldering iron must touch both the pad and the component leg simultaneously, and then count to 3.
2) Introduce the solder, melting it on both the pad and the component leg (which is being heated by the soldering iron), NOT the soldering iron itself.3) Once a quantity of solder has melted remove the stick of solder.
4) Keep the soldering iron in place on the joint and count to 3. The soldered joint should smoke, burning off any excess flux.
5) Return the soldering iron to its holder.
If a component is soldered perfectly There should be a small amount of solder covering the area of the pad only The solder should rise in to a point (being triangular in cross section)
The solder spot should not be bulbous There should be no holes or gaps in the soldered joint.
The solder must not bridge any rails, creating a possible short circuit.Evaluation of Soldering Practise Piece

......Research Target Market
Name:How well do you understand your Target Market?
What magazines do they read?
What clothing labels appeal to them?
What music do they listen to?
What type of shoes do they wear?
What are their interests and hobbies? Can you think of different ways to research your target market?
Create a mood boardDefining the Target Market using a Mood BoardA mood board is a fun tool that translates market research data into a visual representation, providing an inspirational kick-start to a design project.A mood board is more than just a collage of various random images; a mood board displays the target markets lifestyle, dreams and desires.
Typical elements might include hobbies and interests, environment in which the product is to be used, and colour.
A mood board gives a visual snapshot of the target market's lifestyle.Mood Board

Design Brief
Name:Many young children are scared of the dark and need a light on in their bedroom as they go to sleep. In order to save energy lights should not be left on unnecessarily all night. You need to design and make a portable bed side night light which will turn on automatically when it gets dark and turn off again after 20 minutes, by which time the child will be asleep. This light must appeal to children under the age of six.
Product Specification
Make a list of things your night light must do or have. For each of these make a statement and give the reason for the statement e.g. There must be access to the batteries so that they can be replaced.
Try to cover the following points.
Function
What is the product meant to do?
Target MarketWhat age group are you aiming at? What is their social type student, young professional, teenager, toddler etc? Who will use your product?
AestheticsHow will colour, shape, form, texture, pattern and layout contribute to the visual appeal of your design?
MaterialsWhich materials will be suitable to use and why? What material properties are you looking for? (Weatherproof, easy to clean, lightweight, cheap, recyclable, easy to print on, reflective, matt, scratch resistant etc.)
MaintenanceHow will your design be kept in good working order? What features will the design have to make this easy?
Cost
Is there a budget? What will be the selling price?
Safety
What safety factors will you need to consider?
Quality

Fault Finding
You have built your circuit and it doesnt work What can you do? Well dont worry, this is common! Below are four methods of checking your work.
Describe what they mean; the first has been done for you:
Power supply: Is it working and is it set to the correct voltage?
Short circuits: ....Open circuits:

2. Place shaped acrylic piece in Folding Jig 1 and mark fold line
3. Heat fold line of acrylic until soft using strip heater
4. Return acrylic to Folding Jig 1 and close jig, forming 180 bend
Repeat steps 2-4 to make the second fold at the other end of the acrylic
1. Shape corners and smooth all sharp edges
5. Place acrylic in Folding Jig 2 and mark fold line
6. Heat fold line of acrylic until soft using strip heater
7. Return acrylic to Folding Jig 2 and close jig, forming 70 bend
