The 90th anniversary of PUEBInMay2016,wecelebratedthe90thanniversaryofthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusi-ness.Theprogrammeofcelebrationsincludedexhibitions,scientificconferencesandapicnicfortheacademicsocietyandresidentsoftheregion.CelebrationsincludedalsosolemnsittingofthePUEBSenateandaceremonyofawardingtheHonorisCausaDoctorate.

Zielinska-Głębocka,prof.MarianGorynia,prof.TadeuszKowalskiandprof.MaciejZukowski.Onthesameday,duringameetingintheformofbusinessbreakfast,prof.PiotrBanaszykdiscussedtheresultsofthesurveyonlogisticssolutionsinPartnerClubcompanies.

Oneofthemainanniversarycel-ebrationswasaceremonyofaward-ingthetitleofDoctorHonorisCausaofthePoznanUniversityofEconom-icstodr.AndrzejByrt.Theceremonytookplaceon19May2016intheauditoriumofPUEB.Dr.AndrzejByrtisanoutstandingorganizerofinter-nationalentrepreneurship,effectivebusinessleader,askillednego-tiatoranddiplomat,builderoftherelationshipbetweenscienceand

practiceandacclaimedspeakerandpromoterofeconomicvalueintheinternationalcommunity.Untilnow,thehonorabletitleofDoctorHon-orisCausaofthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusinesshasbeenawardedto25peopleofparticularmerit,withahighscientificstatus,whoseworkandachievementsfulfillthemissionoftheUniversity.

AftertheceremonyofawardingtheDoctorHonorisCausatitle,thePolishDanceTheatre“Czterdzieści”gaveananniversaryperformanceatPoznanInternationalFair(direc-tor,choreography,scenographyandtext:JoStrømgren).

TohonorthememoryofthoseinvolvedinthedevelopmentoftheUniversity-staff,alumni,students

andsupporters-wesetuptheMemorialRoom.On20May20,theexhibitionpresentingtheUniver-sity’shistorywasorganizedthere.

Themaincelebrationsofthe90thanniversaryofthePoznanUni-versityofEconomicsandBusinessendedon21May2016with“WolnyTarg,orwepresentwhat’sbest.”Theeventincluded,amongothers,marketwithapicnic,tripstoplacesassociatedwiththeUniversity,inte-grationgame,andaconcertoftheEconomicSingerschoirunderthedirectionofMagdalenaSzczeniaw-ska,operatingattheOpenUniver-sity“ErgaOmnes”.

AdetailedreportonalleventswillbeavailableinthespecialSep-temberissueoftheBiuletyn.

Theprogrammeofcelebrationswasverydiverseandassumedthecommitmentofvariousstakehold-ersoftheUniversityincludinggraduates,students,employees,Cityauthoritiesandresidents,andbusinessandinstitutionalpartners.Alltheeventsweretoemphasizecity-formingandsocialroleofPUEBinshapingthepotentialofPoznanandthecountry.

Thecelebrationsstartedon13May2016withtheanniversaryconcertofthefemalechoir“So-nantes.”Theconcertwasentitled“Ifnotus,thenwho?”Songsoftheinterwarperiod(foundingoftheUniversity)andyears1950,1974(thedateofrenamingtheUniver-sity),2004(theyearinwhichMs.HannaMalickabecamethechoir’sconductor)and2008(renamingtheUniversitythePoznanUniversityofEconomics)weresanginnewver-sionsbymorethan30chorusgirls.Intheconcertpart,theSonanteschoirillustratedmusicallythemostimportantdatesinthehistoryoftheUniversity.RectorofthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusi-ness,prof.dr.MarianGorynia,prof.zw.UEP,presentedthechorussingerswithoccasionaldiplomas.JubilariansthankedrepresentativesoftheUniversityandadministrativedivisions.Theconcertwasprecededbytheofficialpart,duringwhichtheRectorofPUEBawardedmedals“ForMerittothePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness,”LaborOmniaVincitmedals,andYoungPositivistdistinctionsawardedbytheHipolitCegielskiSociety.

Anotherpartofcelebrationstookplaceon15May.ItwastheHolyMass,duringwhichArchbishop

StanislawGadecki,MetropolitanofPoznan,deliveredhissermon.

Anexhibition,openedattheEducationalCenterofElectronicServicesandontheOldMarket,“Aviewofthecity,”wasorganizedon16May2016.TheaimoftheexhibitionwastoshowdifferentformsoftheUniversity’spresenceinthecity.Memories,achievementsofemployeesandalumni,storiesaboutthebuildings,peopleandeventshavebeenillustratedbythearchivalandcontemporaryphotographs.TheexhibitionwillbeopeneduntiltheendofSeptemberatECESanduntil29May2016ontheOldMarket.

Extensionoftheexhibitionisarichlyillustratedanniversarypublication“Components.90yearsofthePoznanUniversityofEco-nomicsandBusiness.”ItbecameanopportunitytodiscoverthestoriesabouttheUniversity,whichatfirstglancemaynotseemsignificantenoughtopayattentiontowhentalkingabouttheschool.Butthegreatstoriesconsistofmanysmallstoriesandthiswastheideabehindthispublication.Monument - ex-posed before the reader - built with poems written by Professor Zbigniew Zakrzewski, with baroque menu of Bratniak canteens, punch lines of cabaret Pegazik’s jokes, with crack-ling sounds of the first student broad-casting system, with calligraphed pages of thousand positions in the economic library, with the love of the Odra 1013 computer, with announce-ments of tutoring and social actions, with views from the 18th floor of the Collegium Altum, with press cuttings and human memory, with archival photographs and a completely new images. With the components of

On17May2016,theNewsroominthePUEBLibrarywasnamedafterHannaMaciejewska-longtimemanageranddirectorofthelibrary,andadeservedbibliographeroftheUniversity.Additionally,theexhibi-tionpresentingthehistoryoftheMainLibraryofthePoznanUniver-sityofEconomicsandBusinesswasorganizedthere.TheintegralpartoftheexhibitionistheonedevotedtoHannaMaciejewska.

SportsDaywasheldon17May2016attheMainBuildingandinthesportshallon17May2016.SportsactivitiesforthewholeacademiccommunitywerepreparedtheUniversityClubAZSUEP.Studentstookpartin,amongothers,train-inginself-defense(KravMaga)andaerobicsontrampolines.AnothereventwasatraditionalbasketballgamestudentsversustheUniversityauthorities.Theauthoritieshaveoneforthefirsttime(78:75).Adaylater,thePUEBStudentParliamentandtheAWFStudentGovernmentCoun-cilorganizedculturalandsportsfestival“Integralia.”Theprogrammeincludedsportstournaments,es-caperoomgameandspeeddating.ThemusicalatmosphereduringthefestivalwasprovidedbyartistsofPolishhip-hopscene(Zeus,Sobota).

Thestrongsubstantivepointofjubileecelebrationswasadiscus-sionpanel“ThePolisheconomy:achievements,failuresanddevelop-mentopportunities”organizedonMay18,2016.Itwasattendedbyprof.AndrzejMatysiak,prof.WitoldOrlowski,prof.AndrzejWojtyna,prof.RyszardRapacki,prof.Anna

Academy of Innovative Business at PUEB

PUEB Rector awarded the Medal of the Polish Bank Association

TheAcademyofInnovativeBusinessisaprojectoftheChamberofCom-merceandIndustryandthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness,fundedbytheLeopoldKronenbergBankingFoundation.ThepurposeoftheAcademyistopromoteinnovativetechnologiesandthelatestknowl-edgeamongsmallandmedium-sizedcompaniesfromWielkopolska,tohelpinadjustingworkers’qualificationstotheneedsoftheregionaleconomyand,aboveall,topopularizeknowledgeaboutthelatesttrendsinmanagement.

Aseriesoffreetrainingintheformoflecturescombinedwithpracticalworkshopswaslaunchedwithinthisproject.TheytookplacefromOctober2015toMay2016atthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.Theywereconductedbyknownandrespectedexperts.

Thesubjectofthemeetingswasadaptedtotheneedsofentrepre-neurs.Amongtheissuesdiscussedwere,amongothers,transformationofPolishcompaniesandtheroleofleadersintheseconddecadeofthe

twenty-firstcentury,thenewlawrestructuring,changesintheUnionandnationallawonpublicprocure-ment,foreignexpansionofPolishcompanies,buildingaCSRstrategyor“Strategy64squares”(analogiesbetweenbusinessandchess).

Themeetingswereverypopularamongentrepreneursastheywerenotonlyanopportunitytoacquirein-teresting,currentknowledge,butalsoanopportunityforcreativeexchangeofbusinessexperiences.

ThePolishBankAssociationaward-edprof.dr.hab.MarianGorynia,prof.zw.UEP,theSilverMedalofNicolausCopernicusforspecialachievements

inconstructionanddevelopmentofthebankingsector.

NicolausCopernicusMedalofthePolishBankAssociationwasestab-

lishedasanhonorabledistinctionforoutstandingachievementforthedevelopmentandsafeoperationofthePolishbankingsector.

Professordrhab.WieslawaPrzybylska-Kapuścińska,prof.zw.UEP,hasbeenappointedamemberoftheCommitteeofEconomicSci-ences(CES)ofthePolishAcademyofSciencesforthetermofoffice2016-2019.

CESisanorganizationalunitofthePolishAcademyofSciences,itsactivityinvolvesthedevelopment,promotion,integrationanddisseminationofscienceandcontributestothedevelopmentofeducationandenrichmentofthenationalculture.

ThescopeofactivitiesoftheCommit-teeofEconomicSciencesincludesthefollowingthematicareas:generalthe-oryofeconomics,historyofeconomicthought,andtheproblemsoffunction-inganddevelopmentoftheeconomiesofCentralandEasternEurope.

Nearly 1.8 million PLN for research

Our scientist the Speaker of the Year 2016Dr.TomaszKopczyńskifromthe

DepartmentofStrategicManagementwonthetitleoftheSpeakeroftheYear2016awardedbyPMI(ProjectManagementInstitute).SpeakeroftheYear2016waselectedon23April2016duringthe“PMPIADA”-aseriesofprofessionalspeechesonprojectmanagement.Elevenexpertspre-

sentedthemostimportantinforma-tionfromselectedareasofexpertisefromasetofgoodpracticesPMBoKGuide,i.e.ProjectManagementInsti-tuteguide,oneofthemostimportantsourcesofknowledgeforProjectMan-agers.Thespeecheswereevaluatedby6-personjurycomposedofexpertsinprojectmanagement.

PMPMIADAisorganizedbythePoznanbranchoftheProjectManage-mentInstitute(PMI),anassociation,oneofthelargestintheworld,as-sociatingprofessionalsinthefieldsofprojectmanagement.PMIhasmorethan454thousandmembersin185countries,wheretherearemorethan250branches.

ResearchersfromthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusinessreceivedfundingfromtheNationalScienceCentre.Theirresearchprojectswonatotalof1792221PLNintentheditionofOPUS,SONATAandPRELU-DIUM9competitions.

IntheOPUS10competition,researcherscanapplyforgrantsforresearchprojects,includingfinanc-ingthepurchaseormanufactureofresearchequipmentnecessaryfortheimplementationoftheseprojects.ThreePUEB’sprojectswillbefinancedunderOPUS10andthetotalamountis873681PLN:

Successes of ESN PUEBDuringtheNationalPlatforminLublin-themostimportantnationalcongressofallsectionsoftheErasmusStudentNetworkinPoland–thesectionoperatingatourUniversity-ESNPUEB-receivedthreeawards.

InthecategoryBest Collabora-tion between Sections,wetookthirdplaceforcooperationbetweenPoznanESNsections(AdamMickie-wiczUniversity,PoznanUniversityofTechnologyandPUEB).Inthepastyear,theabovementionedsectionesorganizedmanyuniversityeventsandjointeventsforexchangestu-dentsinPoznań.

IntheBestCongresscategory,ESNPUEBwonsecondplacefortheorganizationoftheNationalPlatforminPoznaninMay2015.NationalPlatforminPoznańwasahugelogisticalundertakingas180membersoftheESNPolandAs-sociationvisitedourcity.

ThelastawardwasgiventothePresidentofESNPUEBFilipWypi-

jewski,whotookfirstplaceintheBest PresidiumcategoryduringthemeetingofESNPolandDelegatesinSzczecin.Workinginthepresidiuminvolvedsubstantiveorganizationofthewholecongress,conductingmeetings,andpreparationofthereportoftheproceedingsandreso-lutionsadoptedduringthemeeting.

UniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.On30May2016,inthePUEBaudi-torium,hegavealectureaddressedtoacademiccommunityFortheacademiccommunity“TheUniononthecusp.”

Inhislecture,MEPpresentedthegreatestthreatsfortheEuropean

UnionanditsMemberStatesinrecentyears(includingthefinancialcrisis,awaveofrefugees,terrorism,intensi-fyingthepolicyof“humanization”ofsocietyandthe“socialization”oftheeconomy,andthecrisisofvaluesandnationalizationofsocialattitudes).

Duringthepresentation,MrSzejnfeldalsoassessedtheimpact

ofthecurrentEuropeanintegrationonPoland.Inthesecondpartofthemeeting,hetookuptheissueofthemeasuresnecessarytomaintainthesocial,economicandmilitarysecurityandpresentedpossiblescenariosforthefuture.

On10May2016,ourUniversityhosteddistinguishedguestswhopre-paredtwolecturesfortheacademiccommunity.Thefirstlecture,“PolandandtheAfricancountriesinrecentyears,”wasdeliveredbyaMemberofParliamentKillionMunyama(inPolish).

KillionMunyamaisaprofessorofeconomicsandinternationalfinance,regionalcivilservantandpoliticianoftheZambianorigin(MemberofParliamentforVIIandVIIIterm).Hewasbornon10July196,inMakalainZambia.HecametoPolandin1981thankstoagovernmentscholar-

ship.HegraduatedfromthePoznanUniversityofEconomics.Since1994hehasbeenadoctorofeconomicsci-ences.In2012,heobtainedapostdoc-toraldegreeineconomicsciencesinthefieldofeconomics.Hespecializesinbankingandinternationalfinance.Since2011,hehasbeenadeputytotheSejmonbehalfofthePlatformaObywatelska.InthepreviousVIIandcurrentVIIItermofofficeheisadel-egatetotheParliamentaryAssemblyoftheCouncilofEurope(PACE)whereheisadeputyrepresentative.

Thesecondlecture-“PoliticsandEconomyofMorocco”-wasdelivered

bytheAmbassadoroftheKingdomofMoroccoinPolandJ.E.YounsTijani.AmbassadorYounsTijanistartedhisworkforthegovernmentoftheKing-domofMoroccoin1978.Heworkedinbothdomesticandforeigninstitu-tions,performingvariousfunctions,includingamongothers,MinisterPlenipotentiaryofMoroccanMissiontotheUNinGeneva,ConsulGeneraloftheKingdomofMoroccoinMadrid,andConsulGeneraloftheKingdomofMoroccoinParis.From2013,hehasservedasAmbassadorofHisMajestytheKingofMoroccointheRepublicofPoland.

MinistryofDevelopment-TadeuszKościński-metwiththeacademiccommunityofthePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.On9May2016,hegavealectureentitled“Theroleofinternationalcooperationin

theimplementationoftheplanforresponsibledevelopment”.

TadeuszKościńskihasbeenassoci-atedwiththebankingsectorthrough-outhiscareer.Since1997,heservedasdirectorofBankZachodniWBKS.A.Previously,heworkedinPolskiBank

RozwojuS.A.,BankPrzemysłowo-Handlowy,BankŚląskiandBankPomorski,aswellastwobanksinLon-don.HegraduatedfromGoldsmith’sUniversityofLondon.

Pavia.Hespecializesinantitrustlawandthehealthcaresystem.Oneofhismostimportantpub-licationisamonographdevotedtothephilosophyofHerbertSpencerpublishedin2011.

“Freedom and Law” byBrunoLeoniisanexampleofexcellentanalysisoftherelationshipbetweenlawandfreedom,inwhichtheauthorsharestheviewsofFrédéricBastiat,surpass-ingHayekwithconsistencyandrigor.Leoniexplainsthefeaturesofthelawcreatedintimesoffreedomandshowsthatlegislatoritselfbecomesathreattothelawbyunderminingvaluessuchasstability,versatilityanddiscipline.Inhiswork,theauthorformulatesthethesisthatthegreatestobstacletoaneffectivelegalsystemislegisla-tiveinflation.Inmoderndemocraticsocieties,legislativebodiesusurpthefunctionsthathavebeenandshouldbeexercisedbyindividualsorgroups,butnotbythegovernment.Theresultofsuchactivitiesistheestablish-mentofanexcessiveamountoflawsandregulationsthatcrushindividualfreedom.“Freedom and Law” isnotonlyagreattreatiseonthehistoryoflaw.Itisalsoabasisforunderstandingthetruerelationshipbetweenlawandfreemarketeconomy.

International Day at PUEBPresentationsofpartnerinstitutions,creatingamapoftheworldanddancingZumba–thisiswhatthiseditionoftheInternationalDaylookedlike.TheeventwasorganizedbytheDepartmentofRe-searchandInternationalCooperationandtheErasmusStudentNetworkatPUEB.

InternationalDayisanan-nualeventwhichaimstointegratestudentsfromforeignuniversities,locatedinPoznańundertheErasmus+program.Duringtheentertainmentpart,studentscreatedamapoftheworldonapostcardfromPUEB,tastedsweetsandan“internationalpizza”anddancedtheZumba.

Inadditiontoexcellentfun,theorganizershavealsocreatedaspacetoexchangeideasandopinionsonthestudiesandpresentationsweregivenbyguestsfrompartneruniversities-theUniversityofLeth-bridge,ArmenianStateUniversityofEconomics,IESEGLilleandNanjingUniversity.

TheeventwasalsoattendedbymembersofthePUEBErasmusStudentNetwork.RepresentativesoftheorganizationpromotedtheideaofvisitstopartneruniversitiesofPUEBandencouragedtoparticipateintheMentorprogramwhichsupportsforeignstu-dentswhocametostudyatthePoznańUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.

PUEB students win the Audit OdyssEYStudentsoftheFacultyofFinanceandAccountingwonthenationalcompetitionAuditOdyssEY.ItsorganizerwasthecompanyEY-oneofthemarketleadersinbusinessconsultingandtax.

Thecompetitionconsistedofthreestages:onlinetasks,duringwhichstudentscouldtesttheirknowledgeoffinanceandaccounting,webcast-duringwhichtheteamscouldplaytheroleofauditorsandsimulateaprojectaudit,andthegrandfinale,duringwhichanauditcasestudywasorgan-ized.-Wewantedtogivestudentstheopportunitytoexperiencethe

exceptionalworkoftheauditorandtoshowthediversityoftheprojects.It’sabusinessarea,whichallowsyoutogettoknowthecompanyinsideoutthroughtheprismofitsfinancialandbusinessprocess-explainsMarcinZielinski,aPartnerintheAuditDepart-mentofEY.

ThemeetingwasattendedbyDirectorofthePoznanBranch,MariaNowakandheadofDepartmentofPensionsBernardKimel.Students,whoalsoparticipatedinthemeeting,hadalotofquestionstothespeakers.

-Socialsecurityissuesareintricateandcomplex.Manypeopledonotpossessappropriateknowledgeofthissubject.Buteachofusispartofthissystem.Thatiswhysomeissuesareworthlookingintotoday-saidthird-yearstudent,MariuszGawron.

Someofthequestionsrelatedtoinheritanceoffundsonsub-accountofZUS,entitlementstothesurvivor’spensionforpeoplewholosestudentstatus,andtherulesforreimbursementofundulyreceivedbenefits.Theaudiencealsofocusedoncocialsecuritycontributionsoncontractsandthepossibleconse-quencesrelatedtotheemploymentofstudents.

One of the Diversity Business Meetings in Poznan TheinterculturalbusinesspracticewasdiscussedatthesecondmeetingofthecycleDiversityBusi-nessMeetingsinPoznan,whichtookplaceon18May2016attheZamekCultureCenter.

ThefirstpartoftheconferencewasdevotedtothepresenceofforeignersonthePolishlabormarket.ThehonoraryconsulofUkraine,WitoldHorowski,directoroftheJobFairPlayAlexanderKuzmichandHRspecialistatINEAS.A.-MonikaZawada-Hlawaczeksharedtheirthoughtsonthisaspect.Speakerspri-marilyemphasizedthedesiredmodelforimmigrationforWielkopolska,thetreatmentofimmigrantsandtheprac-

ticalabilitytoacquireemployeesfromtheUkrainianmarket.

Thesecondmoduleoftheconfer-enceconcernedtheworkinanenvi-ronmentofculturaldiversityandhadaworkshopcharacter.Theinvitedguestsmoderateddiscussionsingroupson,amongothers,adaptabilityofexpatriatesintheworkplace,interculturalmanage-mentinculturalinstitutionsandthemanagementofaculturallydiversefoot-ballclub.Theculminationoftheevent

wasaspeechgivenbyforeignstudentsofPoznanuniversities,whosharedtheirexperiencesinvolvingsocio-professionaladaptationinPoland.

DiversityBusinessMeetingsinPoznanisajointinitiativeofthePoznańUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness,F5ConsultingandDiversityHubfromKrakow.Thefirstmeetingwasheldon24November2015andstartedadebateondiversitymanage-mentinorganizationsinWielkopolska.

Students Opinion ResearchStudentsgaveanswerstoquestionsconcerning,amongothers,satisfactionwiththechoiceofuniver-sity,studentgovernmentactivitiesandfunctioningofthemoodleplatform,inthethirteentheditionofthe“StudentsOpinionReaserch”.TheprojectwascarriedoutbyYoungStatisticiansandDemogra-phersStudentsScientificAssociation,actingatthePoznańUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.

InMay2016,theEuropeanAcad-emyofDiplomacy,theDepartmentofEuropeanStudiesatPUEBandSKNEuropeorganizedtwoeventsinaseriesofopenmeetings“Occupation:diplomat.”Themaintopicwaswidelyunderstoodcareerintheforeignservice.

On10May2016,ourUniversityhosteddrKatarzynaPisarska,directoroftheEuropeanAcademyofDiplo-macyandtheVisegradSchoolofPoliticalScience(VSPS),amember

oftheYoungGlobalLeadersclub(2014)oftheWorldEconomicForuminDavos,andtheauthorofpublica-tionsonpublicdiplomacy.On23May2016,themeetingwasconductedbyAmbassadorJerzyMariaNowak,as-sociatedwiththeMinistryofForeignAffairssince1960.DuringhismanyyearsofworkintheMinistryofFor-eignAffairs,AmbassadorNowakwentthroughalltheranksoftheforeignservice,becomingamongothers,thePolishambassadortotheKingdomof

SpainandthePolishRepresentativetoNATOandWEU.HealsoservedasDirectoroftheSecurityPolicyDepart-mentintheMinistryofForeignAffairsandPresidentoftheEuro-AtlanticAssociation(SEA).Inlateryears,Am-bassadorNowakwasvice-chairmanoftheexecutivecounciloftheSEA.In2011-2013,hewasalsoacoordinatorofagroupinNationalSecurityBureauresponsibleforcreatingtheNationalSecurityStrategyfortheRepublicofPoland.

Themainobjectiveoftheprojectistounderstandstudentsopinionsonthevariouselementsoftheinstitution,obtaininformationaboutthesatisfactionofselectedstudiesandtocompareratingsonvariouseconomicuniversitiesinPoland.Thisyear’sstudyinvolvedmorethan3,600peopleattheUniversitiesofEconom-icsinPoznan,Krakow,KatowiceandWroclaw.

Respondentsinvitedtothestudyansweredquestionsdividedintosix

thematicareas:theuniversityingen-eral,infrastructure,non-didacticunits,academicsandassessmentdecisions.Mostofthequestionswastoratethegivenstatementsona5-pointscale.Thesurveywasconductedbetween1and24Aprilinanelectronicform.

ThePoznańUniversityofEco-nomicsandBusinessturnedouttobeleaderinmostaspects.Itreceivedveryhighnotesduringtheassessmentofthefunctioningofthemoodleplatform,librariesand

technicalknowledgeofacademics.Alsonoteworthyisthehighlevelofstudentsatisfactionwiththeirchosenpathofeducation.

A competition “Modeling the Energy Market” for the Award of the President of ENEA SAStudentsoftheFacultyofInformaticsandElectronicEconomytookpartinthe“ModelingtheEnergyMarket”,whichtookplaceon17May2016withinthewallsofthePoznańUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness.ENEAwasthestrategicpartneroftheevent.

Theaimofthecompetitionwastopopularizeathemeoffunctioningoftheenergymarketandtointroducestudentstothespecificsofworkofananalystinthisarea.Tenteams(consistingof3-5people)enteredthecompetition.Thecompetitiontaskwastoproposeasolutiontoaproblemontheanalyticalmodelingoftheenergymarket.Tofindasolu-tion,theteamswererequiredtocarryoutstudiesrelatedtothespecificityofenergyproductionbywindpoweranditsimpactonelectricitypricesintheSPOTmarket.Thetimegiventoworkontheproblemwas6hours.Afterthistime,theteamspresentedtheresultsoftheirworktotheCom-petitionComiteecomposedof:Mrs.AnnaGabrysiak-HeadoftheOfficeofMarketAnalysisEneaTrading(Chair),Ms.IlonaMłynarczykemployeeofMarketAnalysisTradingEnea,gradu-ateofWIGE,prof.BarbaraBędowska-Sójkaandprof.MałgorzataDoman,WIGEPUE,prof.RyszardDomanWMIUAM,andotherparticipantsofthecompetition.

Thestudentsworkedwithgreatcommitmentandthelevelofthesolutionsproposedwashigh.Finally,after10hoursofthecontest,thejurychosethewinners.Thefirstprize,intheamountof5000PLN,wasaward-edtotheteamofstudentsfromWMIUAMcomposedofMagdalenaKłosowska,DariuszRatajczyk,Pauli-naZieba.Thesecondandthirdprizeintheamountof3000and2000PLNwenttoWIGEstudentsoftheoffinancialengineeringspecialization.Thewinningteamswerestudentsofthethirdyear.

PresidentofENEASA,MirosławKowalik,stressedthemutualbenefitsofcooperationbetweenuniversitiesandbusiness.-Weappreciatethecooperationwithuniversities.Itistobuildlong-termrelationships,pursuejointprojectsandinvestinthestu-dents’knowledge.Theywillbebetterpreparedtoenterthelabormarket,tothebenefitofthePolisheconomyandcompaniessuchasENEA.Cur-rently,thewinningcompaniesandorganizationsonthemarketarethosethatbasetheirstrategyandactiononknowledge.ThePUEbPartnerClub,inwhichENEAisinvolved,isagoodplat-formtobuildlong-termrelationships

withtheacademiccommunityandstudents.Weseegreatpotentialandprospectsofthiscooperation,andthisyear’s,wellpreparedcompetitionisthebestexample.

Days of the Commodity Science DepartmentForthethirdtime,studentsandacademicshavecelebratedtheDaysoftheCommodityScienceDe-partment.RectorofPUEBprof.dr.MarianGoryniaandtheMayorofPoznanJacekJaśkowiakhavetakenpatronageovertheevent.

TheDaysoftheCommoditySci-enceDepartmentstartedwithacon-ferenceentitled“EnvironmentandTechnologyinbusiness.”Itsthemewasfocusedaroundthemoderntrendsofbusinessandmanufacturingprocess-esofproductsincludingenvironment-friendlytechnologies.RepresentativesofthemajorplayersfromtheworldofbusinessandpublicsectorsalsodebatedontheroleofenvironmentalmanagementandthefunctioningofthenewfieldofstudyProduct&ProcessManagementEngineering,launchedattheFacultyofCommodityScienceinOctober2015.

Duringtheevent,theXIYoungCommodityScientistDayswereorganized,wherestudentsand

representativesofscientificcircleshadtheopportunitytopresenttheresultsoftheirthesesandengineer-ingprojectswithintheprestigiousseminarpapercompetition.Duringthisyear’sedition,over130studentspresentedtheirworks.ThejuryrecognizedtheworkofMrs.AnnaNowakconcerningtheapplicabil-ityofmethodsandtoolsofqualitymanagementintheimprovementofmanufacturingprocessesofthecompanyKabat.

StudentsofCommoditySciencecouldalsodiscusstheresultsoftheirresearchworkintheXIIForumofStudents’ScientificAssociations.Themeetingwasattendedbyrepresenta-tivesofeightuniversities,including

theGdyniaMaritimeUniversity,Tech-nicalUniversityofLodz,UniversityofLifeSciencesinWroclawandKrakowUniversityofEconomics.Duringtheevent,65scientificpapers,whichwereincludedinthemonograph“YoungCommodityScientist2016,”werepre-sented.Thefinaleofthisyear’sDaysoftheCommodityScienceDepartmentwasaReportingSessiongivenbyPhDstudentsofPUEB.Fortydoctoralstudents,whohadtheopportunitytopresenttheirscientificachievementsandlistentotheopinionsofprofes-sors,tookpartinthesession.Theeventwasanexcellentopportunitytoexchangeviewsandpresentthelatestresearchandinterestsofstudentsandstaff.

Fiveplenarysessionsandonepostersessionwereheldduringthethree-dayevent.Twopracticalpaneldiscussionswithrepresentativesofpracticeandthescientificcommunitydevotedcurrentproblemsoftheinsurancemarketwereofparticularinterest.Thefirstconcernedthepre-ventivemeasuresinthefieldofcivilliabilityoftheentityasamedicinal

elementoftheriskmanagementproc-essinhospitals.Duringthesecondpanel,thenewchallengesinagricul-turalinsuranceweredebated.

TheopeningoftheConferencewasattendedbyhonorableguests-ProfessorsTeresaCzerwińska,Vice-secretaryofStateintheMinistryofScienceandHigherEducation,MaciejZukowskiVice-RectorforScience

Hewasbornon9February1948inKozowo.HewasfirstintroducedtotheHigherSchoolofEconomicsinPo-znanon1October1970,whenhebacameaPhDstudent.Aftergraduatinghewashiredasanassistantpro-fessor,firstattheInstituteofEconometricsandStatisticsandlatertheInstituteofEconomicCybernetics.WhileworkingattheUniversity,heheldanumberofimportantfunctions.ForthreeyearshewasdeputydeanoftheFacultyofPlanningandManagement,andin1990theacademiccommunityelectedhimtothepostofVice-RectorforDidactics.ThecrowningachievementofhisworkattheUniversitywastotaketheoffi-ceofrectorin1996.InhismanyyearsofworkattheUniversityprof.EmilPanekmadegreatcontributionstoitsdevelopment.HewastheforerunnerofchangesinstudyprogramsandasVice-RectoroftheUniversityhehasdevelopedandcarriedoutacomprehensivereformoftheeducationalsystem.HisworkfortheUniversityofEconomicsledtoitsdynamicflourishing.DuringhistenurethePoznanUniversityofEconomicsandbusinesshasbecomethesecondbesteconomicuniversityinthecountry.

Hewasbornon21August1928inLubliniec.HegraduatedinlawandeconomicsfromtheUniversityofWar-sawandPoznan,andthenobtainedaPhDineconomicsattheHigherSchoolofEconomics.Formanyyears,heconnectedscientificactivitywithhiswork.Hewasinvolvedinthedevelopmentofindu-stry,agricultureandtrade.HealsospentfiveyearsofhislifeinLibya,whereheservedasanexpertoftheUni-tedNationsforthedevelopment.WhileatPoznanUniversityofEconomicsandBusiness,prof.BohdanGruchmanheldvariousorganizationalfunctions.HetookupajobasdirectoroftheInstituteofPlanning,thendeputydeanandlastlyvice-rector.ThecrowningachievementofhisworkattheUniversitywasbecomingrectorin1990.DuringhistenureattheUniversity,hehasmadeanumberoffundamentalchangesintheorganizationalstructureandtrainingprograms.UniversityofEconomicsjoinedtheinternationalscientificnetworksandatthetimewastheonlyoneinPolandtoorganizepostgraduateMBAprogramsincooperationwithfourfore-ignuniversities.ThankstothehugeeffortsoftheRector,theUniversityhasalsobeenequippedwiththelar-gestMainLibraryinCentral-EasternEurope.

How did you come up with the idea to organize such event?

B4KwBisaneventimplementedun-derthesubject“Managingmarket-ingcommunications”inthefourthyearofourspecialization.Wegottheideafromourlecturer,drMarekZielinski.Thankstohim,wecouldgetsomepracticalskillsinsteadofreadingmorebooks,

How was dr Marek Zielinski in-volved in organizing the project?

Ithinkhedidagreatjob.Ontheonehand,hehelpedusindecision-makingandpointedouttosomepossibilitiesandsolutions.Onthe

otherhand,wehadtremendousflexibilityandroomforaction.Hedidnotinterfereanddidnotforceustohisvision.Itistruethatwewenttoadeadendacoupleoftimes,butitallowedustogainmorevaluableexperience.

How many people were involved in the project?

Ourgroupconsistedof31people.Weweredividedintosectionsforstrategy,execution,socialmedia,imageandresearch.Eachofuswasassignedduties.Noteveryone,however,wereinvolvedinthesameway.B4KwBisaprojectthatabsorbsalotoffreetime,soitwaskindofan

obstacleforthosewhoalsoworkorhaveotherresponsibilities.

In addition to the B4KwB project, Business Communication speciali-zation has also organized a charity Fura Szczęścia. Would you prefer to organize the latter event?

Initially,perhaps,somepeoplepre-ferredtobeinthegroupoforgan-izersofFuraSzczescia.Thisprojectisbiggerandhaswell-establishedreputation.However,B4KwBgaveusahugeexperience,capabilities,andhelpedtogainvaluablecontacts.Ithinkthattodaynooneregretsorganizingthisevent.

Thereissomeambiguityinthisname.Thefirstsymbolscaninfactmeanbefor,ie.aneventprecedingthemajoreventorbe for.KwBisforourspecialization-businesscom-munication.

The name itself shows that the whole event is strongly associated with your specialization. Is it re-ally the main theme of the event?

Exactly!Whentheeventwasorgan-izedforthefirsttime,themainideabehinditwastopromotespe-cializationamongyoungerstudentsyounger,whostoodbeforethechoiceofthepathoftheirfurtherstudies.Directcontactwitholdercolleagues,showingthepathofdevelopmentandidentifyingjobopportunitiesen-couragedmanystudentstospecializeinBusinessCommunication.

Did you put the emphasis on the promotion of the same specializa-tion this year?

Thethemeofthisyear’seditionisverydifferentfrompreviousyears.Afterahugebrainstorming,wedecidedtochangetheformulaoftheeventandcreateaforumforcommunicationbetweencurrentstudentsandgraduatesofourspecialization.Thankstoourevent,graduateshadachancetomeetagainandrenewoldacquaintances.Currentstudentscouldaskabout

theexperiencesassociatedwiththespecializationandgainvaluablein-formationaboutthelabourmarket.

What did the event look like?

Theculminationoftheeventwasthegalawhichtookplaceon20May202016.Atthebeginning,wehadseveraldiscussionpanelsonsub-jectsthatweresupposedtoencour-agemorepeopletoparticipate.Forexample,duringoneofthepanels,wetriedtoanswerthequestionwhetheritisbettertostartacareerinPoznanorgotoanothercity.Inthesecondpartofthegala,weorganizedabusinessspeeddat-ingwhichformularesembledtheoriginalformcreatedattheendofthetwentiethcenturyintheUnitedStates.Thedifferencewas,however,onthetheme,becausethepar-ticipantsofourpaneltalkedaboutthelabormarket,askingquestionsabouttherequirementsofagivenprofession,theypresentedtheirCVorlookedfortraineeshipandpractices.

How did you select the speakers for the gala?

Mostofthemarepeoplewhohavecompletedourspecialization.Thatwasourgoal-toshowthatyoucanbesuccessfulafterstudyingBusi-nessCommunication.Theexcep-tioninthechoiceofspeakerswasthefirstdiscussionpanelthatwasattendedbytheownersofsmallcateringcompanywhoopenedtheirbusinessinPoznan.

What were other events organized for the participants of B4KwB?

Weorganizedtwosmallerevents.Incooperationwithourpartners,weorganizedtheaction“Openuptoanin-ternshipwithEurocash”,duringwhichthestudentswentintotheescaperoominwhichtheysolvedcasestudiesrelatedtobusiness.Thebestgroupswonnotonlyfreedom,butalsoaninvitationforaninterview.ThesecondeventwasthetrainingconductedbyadvertisingagencyAdvertiva.

The event has already ended. Did you have time for a summary?

Thetimefordetailedanalysiswillcome,that’sforsure.Butwecanalreadytell,however,thattheeventwasasuccess.Theinterestwasgreat,nearly150peopleattendedthemeeting.Mostofthemcongrat-ulatedusonprofessionalismandexcellentorganization.

Apartments for the young

Inthepastfiveyears,housingpricesinPoznanfellbymorethan300PLN.Dr.KrzysztofCelkafromtheDepartmentofInvestmentandRealEstatestresses,however,thattherewillbefurtherpricedeclines.StabilizationinthedevelopmentmarketaretobeprovidedbythegovernmentprogramMdM(“MieszkaniedlaMłodych”-

ApartmentsfortheYoung).-I think that by the end of the program Apartments for the Young (up to the end of 2018.), demand for housing will be at such a level that these apartments will sell -emphasizesthePUEBexpert.-Unless the supply increases significantly and the customers will be able to count on the purchase of housing at even lower prices.

Surveillance in the age of terrorism

Abuseofdataanalysisleadstoasocietyinwhichthereisnofreewillandindividualhumanchoice.Themoralcompassofeveryhumanbeingisreplacedbyacomputeralgorithm-wroteprof.WojciechCellaryfromtheDepartmentofInformationTechnol-ogy in Gazeta Wyborcza. - Formerly surveillance, in particular electronic, was possible only in relation to specific people, for which there was a reason-able suspicion of committing a crime, and only with the permission of the court as a guardian of civil liberties and with supervision of the law enforcement agencies-emphasizesprof.Cellary.-In the age of terrorism, the state wants to

collect all possible data on all citizens, that is, all surveillance, and, if neces-sary, carry out an analysis of this data in relation to the suspects. Analysisofsurveillancedatacanhelpinthefightagainstterrorism,butlikeanynewtechnology,canbeusedforbothgoodandwrongpurposes.-It allows to be more effective and act earlier to protect people from terrorism, disasters, accidents, diseases, etc., and to better predict their wishes. But the same tech-niques can be used to choose targets of criminal attacks or discriminate against political opponents-explainedthePUEBscientist.
