Nocturnal Animals in Haworth
Animals I have seen by Thomas
Hedgehogs
• Baby hedgehogs are called hoglets.
• New born hoglets are blind and deaf.
• The hoglets feed on their mothers milk for about six to seven weeks.
• Young hedgehogs leave their mother to live on their own when they are eating the same food as the adults.
• Hedgehogs like to live in open woodland where there are lots of places to hide.
• Slugs and snails are hedgehogs’ favourite food.
• Hedgehogs are one of only a few mammals to have spines.
• Spines cover their neck, back and sides.
• Spines provide great protection against predators.
Bats
• Bats fly in the same way as birds and insects by flapping their wings
• Some bats hibernate huddled together for warmth.
