NORTON CONSULTINGPortfolio

ADVANCED ANALYSIS AND OPTIMIZATION FOR BRACES

Jointly, our customer and Norton Consulting are introducing the use of structural analysis and optimization to the development of knee and hip braces. Groundbreaking work in this industry – we are modeling the knee and brace as a system and developing optimal bracing based on “system performance”.

ADVANCED ANALYSIS AND OPTIMIZATION FOR BRACES (2)

Our customer needed to increase the strength of a bar in a brace by 220%. Just using the strongest possible metal was not sufficient. Using topographical optimization, we provided over 220% increase in stiffness for the bar.

ADVANCED GEOMETRY AND

CAE PROGRAMMING

advanced algorithms in geometry for support of nonlinear materials, domain decomposition, pre/post processing, feature and parameter modeling, and data translation for the leading finite element pre-processor in the Aerospace industry. Language – C/C++/Fortran/Patran PCL

WEB - DESKTOP - QUICKBOOKS INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS

Streamlined solution allowing dental labs to directly upload manufacturing data to the manufacturer who can then generate invoices from the uploaded data within QuickBooks. Increased performance up to 50% and reduces the chance for input error greatly. Languages – C#, Javascript, HTML.

STEP FILE READER/

GEOMETRY ENGINE

A customer requires the ability to read in STEP geometry files and process the geometry. Norton Consulting is developing a tightly couple STEP reader and geometry kernel. Languages – C#, C++/CLI, Unmanaged C++ (for .NET).

MEASUREMENT SYSTEM FOR CTE

Rock West Solutions has developed an effective and affordable technique to measure Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) using lasers. We provided the software to process the laser light displacements in order to calculate the CTE. Language – C#.

MACHINE VISION FOR

MANUFACTURING AND INSPECTION

A customer required the ability for reliable machine vision. This is a much more difficult problem than is often portrayed – our approach was to start with OpenCV, however, we found that those algorithms are unreliable in a manufacturing environment. We are working with that customer to develop alternative algorithms. Language – C#.

ELECTROMAGNETIC SOLVER ON HYBRID

(GPU/CPU) PLATFORM

Identified technologies, algorithms, and customers to create a faster Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) Solver. CEM is perhaps the most expensive analysis in CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) and our approach could have tremendous benefits in compute time. A significant contribution by the team was the integration of heirarchical Matrices (Bebendorf) into existing solvers reducing compute time by up to 50%.

APPLICATION SUPPORT ENGINEERING AT

ALTAIR ENGINEERING

Supported customers of Altair Engineering by developing macros to perform specific tasks such as automated creation of stent geometry and high-order elements for electromagnetic finite element meshes. Directly responsible for supporting Boeing, Northrop, and Lockheed. Language - Python

MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ANALYSIS OF

HYPERSONIC VEHICLES

Norton Consulting has the capability to analyze software solutions to determine which is best for extremely complex applications. We reviewed and customized leading CAE solutions for solving a large multi-physics problems. In our case, besides typical disciplines (structural, thermal), we also had to consider electromagnetics. The use of computational simulation instead of building hypersonic wind tunnels could save billions of dollars. Language – Various scripting languages such as Patran/PCL.

BIOMECHANICS - VISIBLE HUMAN

MODELING

development of advanced techniques for simulation of a bullet passing through the heart. Managed a joint industry-academic team which included leading Universities such as Stanford, UCSD, and the Universities of Michigan and Utah. The objective was to improve triage techniques to save lives on the battlefield. Language – C++.

SIGNAL PROCESSING - LOCATING BULLET

STRIKES

Developed a simulation program for calculating the position of a bullet strike on armor based on triangulation of input signals from sensors on/in the armor. Language – C++ and QT

HUMAN EFFECTS MODELING - NONLETHAL

WEAPONS

Developed a simulation program for nonlethal weapons. These programs calculated the effectiveness of the weapons versus the damage caused by the weapon strike. Language – C++ and QT

ADVANCED MATHEMATICS

Norton Consulting considers Advanced Mathematics a strength. For example, other applications include image encryption algorithms. In particular, we developed unstable watermark technology which breaks down after copying multiple times.
