Nouns are words for

Look round the room. What othernouns can you see?

You can count most nouns• One (singular) Two or more (plural)• a banana three bananas• a tree five trees• an orange oranges• a girl girls• a house houses

Put the nouns in the correct list

cats a comic five boys two elephantsan egg a tiger chairs a book

One Two or more

Use a singular verb with one

The car is expensive.

A bicycle has got two wheels.

The shark swims quickly.

Use a plural verb with two or more

• Oranges are nice.

• Sweets taste good.

• Elephants have big ears.

Put ’is’ or ’are’ in the correct place.

• My friend _______ kind.• Dogs _________ friendly animals.• Sweden _________ in Europe.• The dog _________ very cuddly.• The flowers __________ pretty.

Always use a singular verb with nouns you can’t count!

When a noun is the name of a
