ANNOUNCEMENTS
WELCOME ! If you are a visitor or new to Mt. Lebanon
United Methodist Church—we’re glad you’re here. Please sign
the attendance sheet in the pew. Worship at our church is a
joyful, prayerful, music-filled, traditional experience. We
worship to glorify God and build up the community of
believers to live in this world as followers of Jesus Christ.
The 8:30 am service meets in Sanner Chapel, immediately
inside the front entrance of the church, and the 10: 45 am service is in our beautiful
sanctuary. Kids Praise, a special worship service for ages 3 through 3rd grade, takes
place during our 10:45 Sunday service. For more information:
www.mlumc.org or 412-531-7131.
In 1968, a group of visionaries, including MLUMC’s
own Leon Hickman, dedicated the Olmsted family estate
in Ludlow, PA as a retreat center for United Methodists
in Western PA. Join us, as we welcome Olmsted’s
Executive Director Jody Larson during an evening of
dessert, fellowship, and learning.

Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your
participation at the sewing party at Mt.
Lebanon United Methodist Church on
Sunday, October 9. Because of you and
about 90 other women and girls, a total of
927 Girl Empowerment Pad (GEP) kits
were assembled and packed for shipment
to girls in Zimbabwe. (Our goal was 800.)
Added to other kits made
throughout the year by volunteers, the total
for shipment is 1427, along with seven
donated sewing machines. At least three
other sewing machines were donated as a
result of the October 9 sewing party.
This impressive achievement would not
have been possible without your help and
support. You have made a difference in the
lives of girls, who often miss school every
month for lack of sanitary protection. Now
girls who get a kit you made can stay in
school this year! On behalf of The Nyadire
Connection (TNC) and the GEP program
team, please accept our gratitude for your
work.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Lawson and Linda Ambroso
Thank You To all who attended the sewing party, to
Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church for
hosting and to all who worked to make it
happen.
Please join the United Methodist Women
on Thursday, November 10 at 11 am in
Wesley Hall and hear Bonnie Lawson
provide an update on the Girl
Empowerment Pad Project. As a bonus,
Don Ziegler will join us to provide an
overview of a new project called Mission
Vision, which benefits the Nyadire
Connection.
We will be collecting the following items
on Bonnie and Don’s behalf:
Empty pill bottles and thread (any
color, full & partial spools)
Old eyeglasses and sunglasses
(prescription & non-prescription )
After the joint presentation, you’re invited
to stay for lunch hosted by the Rebecca
Circle with devotions and grace by Gwen
Lammert. Cost for lunch is $6.
Reservations are appreciated, but not
necessary as drop-ins are welcome and
encouraged. To make a reservation, please
call the church office at 412.531.7131.

Wrapping Nativity Gifts Koinonia Circle, under the umbrella of
UMW, will be meeting, Wednesday,
November 16 at 7 pm, in the Welcome
Center. We will be wrapping the nativity
figures to be distributed to the
congregation's children in December.
Come join us, have some fun, learn about
the long tradition of gifting the figures to
children of the church. Paulette Colonna
will be guiding us so we won’t make any
mistakes. Email Betsy Harkins,
bbh555@aol.com, with questions.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16
You Are Invited to a
Town Hall Meeting with
Horizons Stewardship
Our congregation will be having a Town
Hall meeting with Scott McKenzie from
Horizons Stewardship on Wednesday,
November 16th, at 7:30 pm in Asbury
Center. All are invited to attend. Light
refreshments and beverages will be
provided.
As explained in a recent letter to the
congregation, Horizons Stewardship has
been contracted to help us identify ways
to increase engagement among both active
and inactive Church members, whether it
be attendance at worship, participation in
ministries, or on-going financial support.
Scott McKenzie, a principal at Horizons, at
one time was on the staff of the Western
PA Conference and is very familiar with
our Church. In addition to the Town Hall
meeting, Scott will be conducting
meetings with staff, committees, and
individuals during his time with us. Our
hope is that Scott can assist us in
developing a strategy to reinvigorate our
congregation for 2017 and beyond.
The Town Hall meeting will provide a
forum for us not only to hear Scott’s
perspectives on our Church’s opportunities
and challenges but also to engage in
direction discussion with him. It promises
to be time well spent for all who attend.
Please make a point to put it on your
calendar.

Ward Home Angels about to Fly In
Ward Home Angels for our teenagers. will be delivered this week, so they will
appear on our Narthax Christmas tree the week of November 13.
The Angels will be waiting for church goers to pluck them off the tree , purchase a gift
card and fulfill the wish of one of the Ward Home participants, making their holiday
season a bit brighter. Ward Home, a long time partner of the United Methodist Church
Union family, works with at-risk teens and young adults, providing them with safe,
nurturing, home environments. Ward Home counselors use the gift cards from the
Angel tree to help teach budgeting and money management skills to the youth.
The gift cards for the youth are to be for $25, for various stores in the area. Directions
for returning the cards to the Ward Home will be included with the Angels.
CELEBRATION OF MINISTRIES
Next Sunday, November 13 after 10:45 Worship
How have over 100 ministries impacted our church? Come to a celebration of ministries at a
potluck lunch on Sunday, November 13th after the 10:45 service. Our church's 100 ministries
have touched the lives of many of our own members. At our celebration lunch next Sunday, we
will hear the personal stories of Matt Baker, Rachel Dale, JJ and Sara Knabb, Bonnie Lawson
and Nancy Lutz. Don't miss this opportunity to be uplifted by inspirational comments
from our fellow church members.
The church will supply an entrée of fish. Call the church office if you are planning to
attend and let us know whether you are bringing a side dish, salad or dessert.

Endowment & Mission Funds
to West Virginia Flood Cleanup
The Mission Committee is happy to report
that due to the generosity of the Albright
Endowment and with additional funds
from the spring rummage sale, $1500 was
sent to support clean up efforts from the
summer flooding in West Virginia. By
sending this donation to UMCOR Special
#WV2016 (United Methodist Committee
on Relief) we are assured that the entire
amount will be used for flood relief. We
are grateful to Betty Lou Albright for
directing the interest from the Albright
Endowment to the support of mission causes.
Code Change The code to open the doors to the church
and education building is changing on
November 14. If you or your ministry
need after hours access, contact the office
for more information.
ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG! German Class to Begin
Starting on Monday, November 14, a beginner's German class taught by Deanna
Baird will start and continue thru Monday, January 30. We will meet from 7-8:15 in the
Welcome Center. This first term will focus on the basics (numbers, family,
weather, foods, leisure activities, etc.) and on typical beginning conversation/
questions. We will also focus on sounds so that those going to Zwickau can sing the
songs. Although priority will be given to those going to Zwickau, others may also join
this class. There will be a $35 fee, which will go to the Mission Fund to help fund that
trip.
Please sign up with Deanna Baird (fraubaird@aol.com), 412-606-4719, by
November 7; there will be a maximum number to the class. Beginning in March
there will be a second term that will go beyond the basics; people with basic
knowledge may wish to sign up for that.
