Division 4 East,
I cannot describe how amazing you all looked at Fall
Rally South 2013. We definitely pushed for it this year
and I know how hard you all worked to get this far. You
guys did an awesome job during the spirit session—we
made it to Round 2! I am so proud of everyone for your
teamwork and support for each other and other divi-
sions as well. You guys are my inspiration to continue to
serve and every time I feel so stressed out, I just remem-
ber how much spirit you all have. It’s thanks to you guys
that we raised
$2,100 for Pediatric Trauma Program and contributed
toward the Cali-Nev-Ha goal! Although we did not
achieve our division goal of $3,000 to Pediatric Trauma
Program, I am still so proud of everyone’s dedication
(and very sore throats) for making it to Round 2! And
don’t forget! Although our goal was $3,000 by Fall Rally
South, we can still reach our goal for the remaining Key
Club year! But because you guys did your very best at
Fall Rally South, I am going to reward the division with
the opportunity to give the Division Executive
Team…the punishment!!! This is my gift to you goldfishes
for your endless help and cheering and for making this
year’s Fall Rally South memorable!
Sincerely,
Alyssa Nguyen | LTG

$150,000 of money raised for Pediatric Trauma
Program: the number we celebrated at Cali-Nev-Ha
District’s largest family gathering at Six Flags Magic
Mountain.
Key Clubbers from throughout the district enjoyed
world-class rollercoasters and attractions. They
treated themselves to a day of thrills and the intrigues
of theme
park food. At the end of the day, we came to regard
our Key Club ohana with a newfound fondness, our
appetite for high-speed rides satiated.
Cheers filled the air at any given moment as Key
Clubbers discovered their voices and their hips. An
assortment of signs soliciting free hugs was to be seen
at each and every junction of the grounds. Within
and without the spirit rallies, spirit permeated the
park.
By the time we had altogether regained our voice and
hearing, we had discovered that there were many
memories to fondly reminisce over, as well as much
more to this golden year of service to look forward to.

Message From the Executive Assistant
Hey Division 4 East!
I cannot fully express how proud I am to be part of this
division, and serve as one of your EA's. It brought me great
joy turning around and seeing the entire division cheering
at Fall Rally. I'm sure all of you felt the same way as I did
when we made it past the first round during the session. I
was really impressed on how we were able to chant the
Beckman/Canyon cheer in unison. We had little to no
practice learning our cheer since attendance at our last
DCM wasn’t too high.. but even though we are small in
numbers and didn't make it past the second round, we
can at least say we smashed almost everyone in the first
round.

Paul Nguyen | Executive Assistant
To the dearest among all members in Key Club,
Cheering on the stands at Fall Rally South with your
orange spirit-wear really was such a beautiful scene to
experience; all the smiles on everyone’s faces was so
pleasing and inspiring to sight. Even though we are one
of the smaller divisions in our region, the moment you all
walked onto the bleachers, you knew Division 4 East
would make it past the first round and onto the second
round of the spirit battle. Although we didn’t win
against the other divisions, we won within ourselves, and
that feeling is one that I hope everyone will never
forget. You all never fail to shine! All the work you put
out and your continuous ambition to thrive and prosper
really shows and does pay off! I look forward to matur-
ing from a guppy into a brighter and better goldfish
with all of you, and together we will all “swim into
service.”
Your Executive Assistant,
Kaitlyn Nguyen

Message From the Editor
Happy November!
For all of you who are doing college apps... Good luck!
I have been personally straining over them myself, but
remember, they shouldn’t take over your whole life.
Take some time out of your day to spend time with your
friends: do service, spend time with your family, go eat
really good food! Remember, its your senior year, balance
out the disgustingly large amount of work that needs to be
done with some sweeter moments!
Love,
Jennifer Tran | Divisional News Editor
Hi 4 East Goldfishes!
I hope that you all had fun with your service endeavors
this month, be it at Fall Rally or another project. All of
the quality service racked up these past few months is
amazing to see. When I signed up for division secretary
and the division team, I did not realize how much work
it would be. It was off-putting at first. But I now under-
stand that each one of you depends on Key Club in a
different way, whether it be your source of friendship,
service, or reputation. And Key Club only works
because each of you is contributing something. While
fish look intimidating in numbers, it is also the one fish
that counts. Why else would people take such good
care of one goldfish in the fishbowl? With that under-
standing, I see more meaning in this job that I have
undertaken, and hope to continue helping the division
team make your Key Club experience one that anyone
can be proud of.
If it feels strange in any way, feel free to change it up.
Thanks!

OCSA Club Happenings
Blanket Tying Event:The Blanket Tying Event, hosted by Binky Patrol, was an amazing event. My job was to cut up the blankets and tie the edges into knots. Despite how simple the job was, I had a lot of fun doing it. I was able to talk to a few people from my school—people who I usually would not talk to. Because the event was held at the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress, there were a lot of kids there. The kids were very cute and some of them volunteered to help us even though they could’ve done something else. They asked me what we were doing and I told them that we were cutting and tying the blankets for the children in need. A girl smiled at me and said, “That’s a good thing. I’ll help.” She looked like she was only seven, yet she warmed my heart. Overall, the event was very nice and the children there were fun to talk to and work with. Furthermore, it was an event that I am proud of because even with just a few completed blankets, I had already helped a few children in need.Oanh Duong | Divison 4 East
Organizing Clothes for Homeless: It was 2:30 in the afternoon. I sat in my dad’s van, closing my eyes as I lied back. I was honestly tired from school and I felt grumpy. It had been a long week and all I wanted to do was take a nap on my bed. But as Key Club president, I had an obligation to go to most, if not all, the service events. So I came. At first, I honestly wanted to get out of there; the stuffy storage room just made me feel worse. But if I left, if I didn’t come to the service event, I wouldn’t have seen and met the people there. The older women and men who volunteered organized clothes for the homeless every week. The head coordinator made sure that all of the clothes looked new, with no tear and no wear. The ones that had stains and tears in them were either thrown out if their condition was bad enough or placed in another stack for a different charity. I was honestly surprised; I had thought that all and any clothes, as long as they were still intact, were given to the homeless. The fact that she only kept the clothes that she herself would wear showed that she did not lower standards just because the clothes were for the homeless. I felt guilty that I placed the homeless at a lower level and standard from myself. I felt guilty that I thought that the homeless would wear any clothes given to them. I felt guilty that I thought the homeless would lower their dignity just because they were homeless; no one should have to have a lower standard of living because of their circumstances. I shouldn’t view the homeless any differently from myself. If I didn’t go to this event, I wouldn’t have this experience, this experience that made me realize every service project, no matter how small and short, can teach you something new.Michelle Dinh | Divison 4 East

October DCM
The lights were hung. The games were put out. The party supplies were distributed.
It was the October DCM and the host high school was holding a Halloween costume party. Cowboys, nerds, and angels all walked around in their costumes. Personally, this is my favorite holiday, and I was really enjoying myself.
As everyone started coming in, we sat down. Alyssa, our Lieutenant Governor, began to call out the schools one by one. We cheered when our school came up. Then, she started to go through and talk about the upcoming events that we had. The best part was yet to come though…
She passed out the new cheers that our division had come up with so we could practice them for Fall Rally the following week. As she demonstrated, each and every Key Clubber yelled along – showing the spirit. As the DCM ended, the event began, and we all went to play the carnival games set out for us.
