We have been unable to verify the sequences given for the gapST and gapCO genes [see Gene 82 (1989) 242-243, Fig. 2]. Although experiments designed to resolve this situation are currently in progress, we have sufficient reservations concerning the validity of the data to justify withdrawing the paper.
