carefully assure that their diets especially their children’s, contain a balance and a sufficient amount of essential vitamins

Diet and atherosclerosis

Cholesterol is the main dietary culprit in atherosclerosis, the deposit of fatty plaques in our blood vessels. and cholesterol level is determined partly by heredity and partly by their life style.

And formation of plaque depend of different types of lipoproteins

Low density lipoprotein(LDL)High density lipoprotein(HDL)

Cholesterol carried by LDL is called “bad cholesterol’’because it mixes with other substances to form plaques.

Cholesterol carried by HDL is called “good cholesterol’’because it seems to carry LDL away to be processed or removed.

cholesterol levels enough, physicians may prescribe medication.

• Statin drugs (some brand names: Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor) greatly reduce LDL and raise HDL levels.
